In today's bulletin was the announcement that the Tridentine Mass will commence at St John Neumann Church in Gaithersburg, MD starting Feb 21st at 5pm. For now, these will be Low Masses, but perhaps the Easter Mass will be a High Mass.
Hitherto, the only such Masses have been at St Mary's in DC (near Chinatown) and at the old St John's in Silver Spring (across the street from the KofC Rosensteel Council). Those in the northern part of Montgomery County and further north will find this to be a bit more convenient, albeit being late in the day.
At any rate, I'll be there! I hope to see many of you there, too!
Update For more Traditional Latin Masses in the area, please see the comments below.
It is good news that the TLM will be celebrated in another location. However readers of the blog might get the impression that the only other TLM Masses in the DC area are Chinatown and Old St. John's in Silver Spring. I realize that Charles County does not have the pizazz that DC or Montgomery County command, but St. Francis de Sales in Benedict, MD (on the beautiful Patuxent River) has celebrated the TLM since Advent 1989. We used to have the Mass at 1100, but a church fire on Jan 29 has forced us to have the Mass in the church hall at 0730 until repairs are made. For a more complete list of TLM in the greater area go to http://tlm-md.blogspot.com/2008/07/visitors-askwhere-can-i-find-latin-mass.html
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that Fr. LaHood will be the celebrant for these Masses in the Extraordinary Form. He is missed down here in Southern MD, we were fortunate enough to have him as Pastor for a short time. May Almighty God bless him and give him length of days.
ReplyDeleteJanet,
ReplyDeleteI did not know if I should just email you with this info, or comment here, but since this is an old posting, I hope you get the comment. A while back, you said you did not go to the TLM because there is not one in your area. Well, I was at the website yesterday for the Shrine of St. Jude in Rockville, MD, and discovered that they have a TLM on every third Sunday of the month at 4PM. http://parishworld.org/web/parishinfo.php?parishid=4 I thought you or some of your readers may be interested.
Also, here are some more TLM options via the great DC Latin Mass website:

And thanks for the info about St. John Neumann! It is far for me, but I will still keep it in mind!

Since I wrote this, the priest who offered the TLM mass was transferred to another parish. We no longer have TLM.
DeleteWell, you and readers in your area could possibly keep the St. Jude Shrine in mind. Thanks!
