Most sane people are rejoicing that (at last) the bishops - as a whole - are finally displaying some mettle against the none-too-disguised tyranny of the Obama administration. I refer, of course, to the lawsuits against the HHS mandate filed by over 40 dioceses, schools, hospitals, etc. that are Catholic.
However, Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton, California is wagging his finger at the lawsuit. He's concerned you see, "worried that some groups ‘very far to the right’ are trying to use the conflict as ‘an anti-Obama campaign". Such weighty matters he has on his mind!
The poor man has had such "worries" on his mind before. He has voiced them, if his name sounds vaguely familiar. Back in September, when many of us including the American Life League were sounding the alarms about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Bishop Blaire (along with Bishop Soto) issued a ridiculous letter mocking the American Life League and its leaders - by name - for voicing their concerns. What a waste of USCCB bandwidth! The other waste of bandwidth that occurred on the same day was this. I posted a piece refuting it; here it is on the CMC website.
Let us pray that our bishops remain steadfast in their resolve - and that the "Bishop Blaires" either heed common sense or resign.
