On Wednesday evening Michael Voris did a live broadcast discussing the repercussions he (and some others) have experienced for exposing corruption within the Church hierarchy. If you missed it then, here it is now. Please watch. It's long but worth the time. As you watch, consider that this blog and its sister website were created in order to side-step the silence and stonewalling of the Catholic Standard in regards to Cardinal McCarrick's refusal to obey Canon 915 and his habit of hob-nobbing with pro-abortion big-wigs.
Voris is a hero. Period. He rightfully and accurately calls out the mainstream Catholic media for failing to address the real problems in the Church. They paint a rosey picture of the Church, when in fact the Church is riddled with heterodoxy and recalcitrant bishops and priests.
ReplyDeleteVoris is the ONLY one speaking the truth about the rot in the Catholic Church.
I agree with your first paragraph 100%. But as far as Voris being the ONLY one, well, he'd take some exception to that himself, as he did in these two videos. There are newspapers such as the Wanderer. There are individuals who have suffered greatly, such as Mr McNally whom Voris interviewed. I am aware of at least one whistle-blower priest who had his faculties suspended for his efforts.
ReplyDeleteFor others who are sounding the alarm, take a look at the right side-bar. American Life League, LifeSiteNews and Population Research Institute have done yeoman's work in exposing CCHD and CRS, as have members of the Catholic Media Coalition (Stephanie Block comes to mind immediately). And then there's Yours Truly. We all need to wake up the slumbering Church.
As a convert one of the disconnects is between the picture painted by the apologists in books, on EWTN and the Web in general and what I experienced in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Lots of gay friendly parishes and horrible RCIA programs in spite of a Cardinal who was thought toes the line. In tracing to the root of the problem, I found what Mr Voris is reporting on: The problem is unbelief in the ranks of the hierarchy.
ReplyDeleteI would guess that the Church in the 1000's or during the reign of Borgia popes was not much different. Some other people have said that the institutional church always goes for the middle ground and stability over daring truth tellers. Learning
I think we need to take a good listen to what Michael said. At no time did he implicate EWTN in cover-ups or attempts to pressure him or any other outspoken Catholic. What he said was that high salaries make the job of Catholic professionals difficult and sometimes impossible when the local bishop, and the USCCB has the ability to soften or edit the content. This certainly is true. Because Michael does not have these problems, he is indeed free to dispense truth as he sees it. I am very proud of the programming on EWTN as they have all the polish, and then some, of secular "journalists." I also like the fact that they are paid well-it's time for Faithful Catholics to be able to provide for their families.
ReplyDeleteEWTN has converted tens of thousands since Mother Angelica first opened the station. You will remember, Mother Angelica was not delicate in her criticism of Catholics, and Catholic clergy. I recall a story about her telling a bishop that before he would appear on her program, she would "blow the place up." It seems he had written something objectionable about the Holy Eucharist. Good for her! But those days are gone, and were that situation to present itself today, sadly, I believe she would obey her bishop. Those days are gone forever, but EWTN continues to convert by teaching the sweetness and purity of Catholicism. They also teach the very basics according to the MAGISTERIUM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH-a novel endeavor in todays media.
Michael Voris also teaches the truth according to the Magisterium, bypassing the sweetness and stressing what is wrong in the Church today. His specialty is working with Catholics who are sick of the "sweetness" they already have mastered, and hungry for reform. He is desperately needed today, by Faithful Catholics! He let us all know that we are not crazy, that there is much clerical error in our present-day Catholic Churches. He also faces enemies of the Church with a resolve reminiscent of St. Paul. Good for him, better for us!
These two entities are unimaginably important to Catholicism today. They appeal to two entirely different audiences; both doing their part to save what is left of Catholicism. Both deserve our support.
My hope is that they will unify; each with a job to do. Together, no one would be able to ever again assail or misrepresent Catholic teaching or dogma ever again. I hope both sides will consolidate the "edge" of Michael with the sweetness of EWTN. Please pray with me to that end by saying a simple Hail Mary (the sweetness), and a prayer to St. Michael (the edge).

I think EWTN has veered too much towards the overly-conciliatory end of things. A "case in point" can be found in my post http://restore-dc-catholicism.blogspot.com/2012/07/raymond-arroyo-et-tu-brute.html Arroyo hosted pro-abortion Mark Shriver on his show, giving the latter an opportunity to hawk his book. Several months prior, I picketed a book-signing of Shriver's, hosted by a Catholic Church. The very atrocity that I picketed at a Catholic Church was being committed by Raymond Arroyo. Unacceptable.
DeleteHang in there. We always figure it out. I promise! Better yet, Jesus promised!

I agree Tess208 that EWTN is great on basic Catechesis. I would tell a new Catholic to watch the network. However, it was a real head spinning experience to go from by the book apologists to the parishes. EWTN hints at it in their question and answer section but did not give the reality. And that may not be their job. God by his Grace, had already battle hardened me from experience in the protestant mainline and a sponsor who explained the struggles in the Church, so I did get through RCIA.

Good for you Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI sat in on one RCIA session in my Church, and I was impressed. They had two former teachers instructing, one with a minor in Catholic Theology. In that session, my Pastor joined in and was there to answer any specific questions of the students (2). I am very orthodox and pretty hard to please, but I had the take away that at least this was what was needed.
The hard part for me is, that on a week by week basis, the "hard core" subjects are never broached-"the Church of Nice" as it were. This is just the sort of thing Michael speaks so eloquently about, and just the sort of thing that EWTN needs to get into. I think if they work together, nobody loses. Please pray for this partnership.
I did not know about the book signing, or the Mark Shriver appearance on EWTN. This can never be tolerated. In place of the CCHD collection, Faithful Catholics in this area funded EWTN. These funds can also be removed. All of us need to come up with a campaign for next time-if it happens. This is a non-negotiable!

Tess:
ReplyDeleteThat is my hope that people who profess love of Christ's Church will rise above out differences. The last thing we need is for faithful Catholics to form a circular firing squad. I hope people take Voris up on his offer to get beyond style and talk about how to address the substance Voris' arguments.
