How Many "Genders" Are There Today? Bet You Can't Guess!!

If you're like most sane people with a modicum of common sense, you'll immediately think of Genesis 1:27, "Male and female He created them."  It seems that common sense isn't all that common anymore.  Some quarters of the culture of death hold the notion of "male and female" as being the only two genders to be rather quaint and hopelessly outdated.  You probably do realize that these so-called "intellectuals" have concocted some additional "genders".  But - how many?

Sit down, now.  Don't be eating as you read this, lest you spit all over your monitor as you read the latest tally of "genders".

According to the Austrilian Human Rights Commission, there are twenty-three (23!) different "genders"!  Not only that, this commission has "protected" them (whatever that means).  Read the article here to get the latest tally.  I haven't heard of most of these, and I sure don't know their definitions.  I don't want to know their definitions; they'll probably change with the wind anyway.

Notice that I said "latest tally".  Some other doofus organization will probably concoct some more groups that "need protection".  In fact, as I read the list, I can think of one "gender" that they may have forgotten - "none of the above"!  Why not!

  1. Being "open-minded" is not necessarily a good thing. We're supposed to be discerning about what we admit into our thinking - else it can hardly be called "thinking".
If I were to say there's only one real answer to "what does 1+1 equal", no one would scold me for being "closed minded". The nature of truth is that we can either accept it and be correct, or reject/ignore it and be wrong. Truth demands a response, something many disingenuous folks don't want to admit - hence the "open mind vs closed mind" games.

    1. Why did your god create people who feel with every fiber they are the wrong gender? And what should we call these people? Sad you can't accept the reality your god created. You just can't make your beliefs fit reality, finding a way to classify, respect and understand these people that your god clearly sent here to teach your evil a lesson, is not an assault on your religion. You are just a religious madman who is trying to manage the fact that your beliefs don't fit reality. Your sinful pride is out of control to the point you believe you have some kind of ultimate truth which gives you the right to judge others. You that judge are no Christian, that would make you a follower of 'Jesus Christ' who's teaching's go against judgemental CLOSE-MINDED religious extremists like yourself.

    2. Since when do subjective "feelings" determine reality? What do we call these people? Very troubled - as you seem to be. Your very statements that lambast me for being "judgmental" and "extremist" are themselves judgmental - and I'm sure you can't see the irony in that. If you are in fact one of those individuals who thinks they're the "wrong gender" (in other words, disputing the God who made them that gender), you need help. If there is an organic cause for your confusion, seek remedy. At any rate, if you are living a deviant lifestyle, please stop now lest you cause yourself misery in this life and perhaps even greater misery in the life beyond.

  2. gender and sex are not the same thing. there are 2 sexes, male and female but a wide range of genders.
Even medically speaking there are more then 2. you have IS people who are born both male and female to varying degrees then you have a wide range of others.

  3. This is not some "new idea"! Native Americans and many primal cultures recognized more than 2 genders. If you are unfamiliar with a subject you shouldn't speak on the matter.. It just makes you sound foolish.

    1. "Male and female He created them". Plain and simple, no matter what some "primal culture" might concoct. They are not infallible authorities (assuming, of course, that they really did make such ludicrous statements). It's called common sense, my friend, not to mention adherence to God's Laws.

    2. Are you saying your God and the belief in your religion is common sense? I beg to differ, and dare you to prove yourself and your statement.

    3. Nytsur, what is the precise nature of your objection? Be specific - if you dare.

  4. Well, Janet, you are sure getting hogwash from silly comments. Until recently "gender" was a grammatical term relating to language. nouns in certain languages were "masculine, feminine, or neuter." The idea that there are "23 genders" is pure nonsense made up by people who aren't happy with who they are and want to play make-believe. These folks who suffer from identity confusion live in a virtual world where they make up their own reality. Praying for them is probably more useful than arguing.

  5. God in Is 56:4-5 affirms 3rd genders as a distinct group apart yet loved & named from sons & daughters: "thus saith the Lord to the eunuchs, who keep my Sabbaths, & decide for that in which I take pleasure, take fast hold of my covenant; I give to them in my house & within my walls a memorial (yadh) & a name (shem) better than sons & daughters: I give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off."

Nice wordplay on eunuchs/cut off! The eunuchs cannot parent children & thus prolong their name nor are they regarded as sons or daughters, being inbetween, but instead of healing, as God offers to the blind, deaf, lame, lepers God gives them a name, nature & status, as shem can mean, as "good" as that of sons or daughters, creating a third category on an equal footing, called "better" to make the point. They are also given a "hand", not a helping one, perhaps, but yadh can euphemistically mean phallus power or strength, portion or inheritance.

Jesus referring to eunuchs cites 3 possible origins including "born this way", "made" or "lifestyle choice" (Mt 19:12). Contemporary Jewish rabbis recognised at least 4 genders accepting hermaphrodite tumtums & infertile intersex &/or barren women. The Jewish Midrash speaks of Adam being created androgyne/hermaphrodite & then being "cut in two" much like Plato when he speaks of the masculine, feminine, & the androgynous, & of the latter being split at Creation.

Genesis 1 does not say that we are created "male or female" but "male AND female, in the image of God" making God male & female, but one entity - in 3 "persons". Although "persons" is a problematic later Greek development than earlier Christian thought of God in 3 modes or manifestations: Father, Son & Spirit. Whilst the Spirit-Agent is mostly seen as female & the Father-Creator as male, nonetheless they are described metaphorically as a mother with nursing breasts as well as other female analogies (Dt 32:18; Is 42:14, 49:15, 66:13; Ho 11:3-4; Ps 123:2-3, 131:2; Mt 23:37; Lk 13:34, 15:8-10), leaving only Jesus as the XY male - but can we be sure of even that? If Jesus was the incarnation of God, then he too could be male & female, a fully intersexed Messiah, so that Jesus can truly stand for everyman, as in every man & woman, fully human.

The Hebrew word for "and" has a wide meaning, it also has the word "or" but does not use it here; "and" is used of the animals taken aboard the Ark "male & female" separate breeding pairs. Yet some animals can breed without being in a pair, some can have up to 7 gender variations within a species. Are these animals making a "deviant lifestyle" choice or were they not only born that way, but created & part of the "male & female" God envisaged?

It is not about distinction, separation & categorisation but creative variety. Day & night, light & dark are not polarised binaries, but a 50 shades of greyscale, with dawn, diluculum, sunrise ... dusk, crepuscule, twilight & everything in between. Gender is similar.

Nobody disputes anymore the ethics of slavery, the Christian equality mantra of Ga 3:28 stating that "there is neither slave nor free", but it continues "neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus". So why are we debating gay, trans, women bishops still? Just as God is male & female & yet still one, so are we both individually & as humanity. We are male & female & every shade in between, however gender is counted: 2, 3 or 23 genders & none.

Simplistic literalist black & white, male & female theology creates summary judgements of human conditions outside of the binary, neat Sunday school scenarios. Real life is complex, beautiful & individual, & Jesus' radical solution: Love transcends all these complexities.
