While Catholic Relief Services considers itself bound not to distribute condoms themselves, they have no qualms whatsoever referring interested parties to sources for condoms. They also have no problem whatsoever with extolling the "benefits" of condom usage.
Doesn't it seem like anything connected with the USCCB is tainted? Could it be because the USCCB itself is overrun with progressives? Is it not way past time to take the whole thing down?
Listen closely to yesterday's episode of the Vortex. He echoes many things I've been saying and thinking throughout the years. I've seen so many in the pro-life community wax giddy and lyrical how "the polls" indicate that the "nation is becoming pro-life" and "think abortion is wrong". Such polls I take with copious grains of salt. Those polls aren't worth the time, effort and money it takes to conduct them.
So many folks, who are decent, claim to be pro-life but don't really make any pro-life concern a real part in their lives. Oh yes, they might contribute every now and then to a pro-life fundraiser and even attend a gala or two. Maybe, just maybe, they'll vote pro-life unless somehow they perceive that their "financial interests" would be better-served by a pro-abortion candidate. And of course they wouldn't think of taking a public stance such as witnessing at an abortion center or writing a letter to the editor or volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center. In other words, they aren't "pro-life" enough to step out of their comfort zones and make some real long-term commitment to the babies.
If what I just described above sounds too familiar for comfort, I urge you to listen again to the clip. Go to confession if necessary. And then begin to step out - even if you don't feel like it. Join an ongoing pro-life witness in your area (40 Days for Life will soon be starting its Fall 2012 session - look for one in your locality) and stay with it. While being pro-life means that you carry it into the voting booth, that only occurs every few years. Pro-life is more - it is being pro-life every day. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
Harold Alexander, partner to late-term abortionist James Pendergraft IV, had his license suspended by the Maryland Board of Physicians. His method of murdering babies involved injecting a needle into the heart of the baby (and of course through the mother's belly) to stop the heart of the child. After this step, the mother would be sent elsewhere to deliver her dead child. The murder site is called "Integrated OB/GYN Services" and operated out of Forestville, MD (Prince George's County).
Look at the photo of Alexander on the LifeSite News site. Doesn't it look like a mug shot? I think that's very appropriate. Here are more details from Operation Rescue. It is their 7-month investigation that helped bring this suspension about. For that they deserve much credit. On their site is video. If you can't see their embedded video, go here. In the latter part, you'll hear Pendergraft tell them that before any other information is released (like location, doctor's name, etc), that they must wire $6k in cash to him but that's ok, 'cause golly gee - they get a receipt! While there's just a tinge of sarcasm in my statement, most women going to have their babies killed have no idea who they've hired to invade their bodies and slaughter their children!
Obviously the video was created before Alexander's suspension, but it gives you an idea of the low-life that abortionists have allowed themselves to become.
If ever one needs proof that being pro-abortion will strip such an afflicted individual of any semblance of intelligence and/or dignity, they need only examine the reaction of progressives to the GOP convention.
Lifesite News informs us that Ellen Barkin, via Twitter, is cheering on Tropical Storn Isaac, to wit, "C’mon #Isaac! Wash every pro-life, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean! #RNC" Charming, isn't she? In September 2004 during a press conference, she told those in attendance that if her daughter were pregnant, "I would take her kicking and screaming to have an abortion." So much for "her body her choice", but knowing the violent nature of abortion (I've seen a number of parents coercing their daughters to go into Planned Parenthood), I'm not the least bit surprised.
Not to be outdone by Hollywood, Code Pink activists showed up to protest, dressed as "vaginas". You can see them here, decked out in their finery. It's interesting how Code Pink has morphed throughout the years. It started out by being an anti-war movement. Now it's pro-abortion; that is, it's pro-war on helpless babies.
To any folks who think they might want to be "pro-choice" - Please take warning from this video of Code Pink pro-abortion activists. Do you really want to end up carrying on like these poor deluded gals do in this clip? I know they think they're inspiring "shock and awe" with their get-up, but in reality all they invoke is "pity and disdain". Normally I might put up a "vulgarity" warning, but it's so sophomoric that any vulgarity is neutralized. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
Yes, apparently even they realized that their snub of Cardinal Dolan would not win them any real Catholic votes (as opposed to votes of faux-katholycs along the lines of Pelosi, Biden, etc) so Cardinal Dolan will give the closing benediction.
Naturally they feel they have to remind one and all of the sort of "katholyc" faith they admire, so Sister Simone Campbell will also be addressing the Dems that evening. We hope and pray that His Eminence will pray for true Christian principles to once again guide the Democrats and that their platform undergo much needed reform (if not actual exorcism).
I wrote two years ago that Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good might have been scrapped by its money sources - George Soros being the chief among them. Well, either I was wrong or it's simply been resurrected for the present presidential campaign. Do read that post and the links therein for important information regarding CACG and its rather nefarious origins and associations.
As I was looking into their site to work on another post, I came across their Board of Advisers and one name immediately caught my eye - Mary McGinnity. She was the Executive Director for Social Concerns at the Archdiocese of Washington until two years ago (and now heads the Ignatian Volunteer Corps). I have no way of knowing if there was time overlap between her appointment to the CACG Board of Advisers and her employment at the Archdiocese of Washington.
I could opine that McGinnity was merely exercising abysmally poor judgment when she affixed her name to their Advisers' roster, but I'm not so naive. How could she not know that CACG was founded by faux-katholycs who worked on election campaigns for John Kerry and Kathleen Sebelius? For further reading, I refer you to this Pewsitter article. Of course, as revealed yesterday, two of CACG's directors are members of "Catholics for Obama".
Consider that McGinnity led the "social concerns" office of the Archdiocese of Washington for several years. Now consider the mindset of one who aligns his/herself with such an outfit as is Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. She had to be approving of its goals (at least in good part) to be affiliated with them. Such a mindset helped set the tone for some of the nonsense coming from that office: Climate Change Covenant, promotion of Just Faith and yes, next to nothing from the pro-life office (for which I do not fault those individuals).
Quite a bit of the chancery still remains infected with progressive rot (with a few heroic souls trying to stay afloat). Pray for our poor church and let's continue to shine the light of truth where it so sorely lacks.
I suppose on the bright side, that Obama is allowing some prayer. The big question is "prayer to what"? Well, in this case it's to the false idol called "Allah". The "prayer" in question is called Jumah. And yes, it is an official function - to be held on Friday of course.
Another "bright spot" is that Sister Maureen Fiedler can stop hyperventilating now. Cardinal Dolan tried to be "bipartisan" about convention prayers. It's not the fault of His Eminence that the Messiah Most Miserable behaved like a lout.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Dolan continues to fall all over himself in trying to make nicey-nice with these pro-abortion politicians. A few days ago he waxed lyrical/hysterical as he stated "it's a cause for celebration in the Catholic community that the two vice-presidential picks are Catholics." Comparing the "katholycism" of Biden with the Catholicism of Ryan is like comparing night and day. The only way, perhaps, that His Eminence can compare Biden with another Catholic is to compare Biden with himself for the sheer number of gaffes that both of these men utter. Let's face it - that comparison was an abysmal Dolan gaffe.
Perhaps there's yet another bright spot. Now that Catholic prayer has been jettisoned in favor of Muslim idolatry, Cardinal Dolan can use that as a reason to disinvite Obama from the Al Smith Dinner. Let His Eminence show a bit of backbone and do the right thing in this case - disinvite the abortion-adoring Obama.
Look in the middle of the page - Sister Jamie T. Phelps. Sister?? Here's a brief biography - she too has been affiliated with CUA. Will her Dominican superiors speak truth to her? Don't hold your breath!
Also notice that John Sweeney, buddy of Cardinal McCarrick, has voiced his support for a pro-baby-murder candidate. I'm not surprised.
It looks like we might have to boycott the second collection for CUA - until its leadership finds the will to rein in (or maybe fire) its pro-abortion faculty.
The "pro-choice clinic escorts" in our area are organized under the umbrella of the Washington Area Clinic Defense Task Force. Their orange jerseys used to bear that name and logo. It is that to which I made reference. Isn't it revealing how they try to hide the truth of the horror they advocate? Whom do they think they're fooling? Maybe themselves, although I doubt that's a smashing success. Click here if you can't see the embedded video.
This audio was recorded in 2002, when the Illinois version of the Born Alive Protection Act was being debated. Listen to then-state-Senator Obama, during debate, argue against the act, insinuating that a newborn is a "fetus outside the womb" (Forgive his stuttering and stumbling; apparently teleprompters weren't allowed in the senate chambers during debates). Thanks to Jill Stanek for posting this. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
Rebecca got wind of my post and contacted me. We exchanged some emails. Then on August 21st she had Michael back on her show; they revisited the question of a Catholic vote for Romney (understanding of course that a Catholic vote for Obama would be hideous beyond description and God have mercy on those Catholics who do vote for Obama). The podcast is here. At 2:33 she starts to describe our exchange. He noticed that I cited Msgr William Smith (and I believe I described him fully in the email) - more on him in a few minutes.
From Help Save Maryland, here's the official language that will appear on the Maryland ballots.
"Undocumented immigrants"! If I'm ever caught driving without my driver's license, can I just tell the nice police officer that I'm merely an "undocumented driver"? Fat chance! So why the double-standard here?
Question 4 Referendum Petition Public Institutions of
Higher Education - Tuition Rates (Ch. 191 of the 2011 Legislative Session)
Establishes that individuals, including
undocumented immigrants, are eligible to pay in-state tuition rates at
community colleges in Maryland, provided the student meets certain conditions
relating to attendance and graduation from a Maryland high school, filing of
income taxes, intent to apply for permanent residency, and registration with
the selective service system (if required); makes such students eligible to pay
in-state tuition rates at a four-year public college or university if the
student has first completed 60 credit hours or graduated from a community
college in Maryland; provides that students qualifying for in-state tuition
rates by this method will not be counted as in-state students for purposes of
counting undergraduate enrollment; and extends the time in which honorably
discharged veterans may qualify for in-state tuition rates.
Progressive CINOs are all smiles and gladness when the rabidly pro-abortion Barack HUSSEIN Obama is invited by Cardinal Dolan to besmirch a Catholic event, but wax hysterical at the thought of Cardinal Dolan attending the (gasp!) Values Voters Summit in Washington DC next month.
Today Sr Maureen Fiedler, in today's online National Catholic Reporter is indulging in a good old-fashioned liberal snit-fit over the prospect. She utters the dire warning that the Cardinal might "share the stage with such right-wing luminaries as" Michele Bachman, Governor Jan Brewer and (horror of horrors!) GOP VP candidate Paul Ryan. Not only that but she warns that "an appearance is to an endorsement of Republican candidates".
By the way - for examples of how Fiedler (doesn't) thinks, peruse some samplings from her blog. Some titles are quite revelatory: "How Do We Prevent Global Climate Catastrophe?", "Real Threats to Religious Freedom", "Gay in the Eyes of God" promise to be real hoots. In reality, they are symptomatic of the moral and spiritual rot that exudes from the progressives within the Church.
Amid all its other recent scandals new ones have come to light regarding some of the personnel of Catholic Relief Services. I won't comment on all of them but will refer you to LifeSite News for further detail.
I will comment on Charisse Espy Glassman, who was convicted of vehicular assault after driving her car into a group of pro-life activists during the 2011 March for Life in DC. In addition to aspiring to a political career in the Democrat party she was employed at the time with CRS-Haiti. She remained with them until August 2011. I know the assault victim who suffered the injured back. In fact, when I was getting started in pro-life work, her mother and I spent many hours at an abortuary off Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg.
I fear that CRS may well be simply an international version of CCHD.
At this time of the year, when the election campaigns are gearing up, political bumper strips start appearing on cars. You'll notice these at Mass. Unfortunately, due to the abysmal catechesis that many Catholics received, you'll probably notice bumper strips for Obama (or other unworthy candidates) in your parking lot. If you live in a liberal area (as do I) these strips will be showing up like kudzu. What to do?
A few years ago, I developed a tool - Wisdom on Windshields. It is an educational flyer that can be placed on the car of your obviously oblivious fellow Catholic. It's particularly helpful if you are rushing into Mass and/or not see the car owner. No problem! Just deposit a Wisdom on Windshields flyer under the wiper or in the car door (make sure it can't blow away). You can download it here and have it handy on your own computer. Print it out and always carry a supply with you to Church, as you'll never know when an opportunity will arise to educate an ignorant fellow Catholic. Those of you in other areas of the country should feel free to copy the language to your own letterhead, if that will be more helpful to your local situation.
As I said, though, it is that season again. I had occasion, both yesterday and last weekend, to deposit a flyer on cars with Obama strips in church parking lots. Please download this flyer (or prepare your own) to help out your fellow Catholics - and always carry a few with you when you go to Church.
On Thursday, August 15 2012, BlogTalk Radio had a program
called Salve Regina. I’ve never listened
to it before, but decided to do so when I learned that Michael Voris of
ChurchMilitantTV would be a guest and that Catholics in political life would be
discussed. The podcast is here; please
I agree with him that there has been much degradation in
society today, that our departure from our Christian roots has been extensive
and pervasive. I don’t share his opinion
that the spiral is irreversible (stated at the 17:00 mark). It will be if we adopt this opinion as our
own for then we will be engaged with what can be called a “self-fulfilling
prophesy”. At the 17:20 mark he starts
to ask the question, “where do we go from here?”.
Where: St. Mary, Mother of God Church, 727 5th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.
There will be a viewing in the Church on Thursday, August 23 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Friday, August 24th - Respects may be paid in Church between 10:00 am and 11:00 am. Mass will be offered at 11:00 am in the Church
Singer Cher (remember Sonny and Cher?) is a raving pro-abort. She's also an avid tweeter, making gaffes that would do Joe Biden proud. You can see the "precious pearls of wisdom" pictured on Lifenews. The real gem? The imprecation she casts upon herself if she doesn't "stand" for contraception and abortion - the loss of her voice.
Well, Cher, there are millions of voices that won't be heard on earth thanks to the murders from abortion and contraception. I daresay that more than a few of those voices might have been as decent as yours, if not more so. If you continue down your path, you will lose far more than your voice - namely, your eternal salvation
No wonder her daughter Chastity is such a mess! With a mom like that who doesn't understand the first thing about real motherhood and femininity, the daughter was at a tremendous disadvantage. Let us pray for both these troubled women - and the countless others who hold those two in adulation.
Today's Vortex, in addition to outlining how not-so-covert 1960s hippies absconded with the term "social justice", comments on the scandals of the CRS that are becoming evident. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
In this Vortex, you'll hear more expose on the overly-chummy relationships between the progressive/atheist elements and the liberal bishops. Note that at the 6:10 mark, Voris points to the "ever-growing scandal at the Catholic Relief Services" - more on that after the clip. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
Last month I reported on a most serious CRS scandal, where CRS was caught giving $5.3 million to CARE, a group distributing contraception and abortifacients to women in developing countries and lobbying for abortion. You'll notice John Rivera, communications director for CRS, commenting on my post. In actuality, all he was doing was posting some standard talking points, one of them a misquote of John Haas. Mr Haas himself refuted that. Rivera tried the same trick on Michael Voris; happily it backfired big-time.
Naturally CRS has questionable leadership. See this post from last year on their CEO. Recall also that in 2005, while Terri Schiavo was being slowly murdered in Florida, the local bishop, Robert Lynch, refused to assist her and made clear his sympathies were with the murderous husband. Bishop Lynch at the time was board president of the CRS.
Now we jump forward to present, because several other scandalous associations of CRS to pro-abortion groups have been uncovered. The Redstate blog gives the details.
Catholic Relief Services is a dues-paying member of CORE, (to the tune of $3k/year) and several CRS officials co-chair CORE's HIV/AIDS "working group" and sit on the board of directors of CORE. Over 50% of its budget funds "family planning" and contraception.
CRS forks over another $3k/year in dues to MEDICAM and is a member of that organization's steering committee. CRS participated in MEDICAM's Position Paper for 2011. Note that "NGO Best Practice Component 4" is "safe abortion". The Redstate blog lists other occasions of CRS joining in MEDICAM's advocacy of abortion. Please research them.
There are some who argue that the Catholic Relief Services is an organization that has stood above the scandals that have plagued CCHD and Catholic Charities. Sadly such is not the case. They too are funneling money (largely from donations of Catholics or from federal funding, that is, your tax dollars) to organizations that serve the culture of death. Whereas the CCHD funds inimical organizations within the United States, it seems that the CRS is sending money to equally deadly organizations outside the US.
The Pro-Life Corner Blog announced yesterday the results of a "sting operation" conducted by an anonymous pro-life individual. She portrayed herself as a "clergy woman" from Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. She emailed the Al Smith Foundation to inquire about a table purchase by RCRC.
Well, poor Meghan at the Al Smith Foundation gladly replied, stating they'd be welcome, as long as they ponied up the cash. By the way - tables start at the paltry sum of $25,000.00. I guess that's what inflation has done to 30 pieces of silver.
A little "aside" - Recalling how the various officials of the Archdiocese of New York tried so hard to convince the public that this dinner is not an archdiocesan event, don't you find it interesting that the domain of the Al Smith Dinner email is "@archny.org"? I just think that's fascinating!
Today, after the Archdiocese of New York realized we are not going to buy the lame excuses and pabulum put forth by its various employees, they somehow think that we'll swallow the same regurgitated pig-slop "hook, line and sinker" if Cardinal Dolan's name appears in the byline of the daily blog post. Well, that is NOT happening!
I share the frustration that Voris felt with the earlier schlock because there's so much error, obfuscation and downright silliness that one can scarcely determine where to begin to unpack the mess.
First, notice the word "civility" appears often and in italics. One wonders what the ADNY means by that word. Mention is made of "positive, upbeat discourse, enjoyable discourse". Would the ADNY be that interested in "civility" if the dignitary in question was an avowed racist? Would Cardinal Dolan be interested in "upbeat discourse" with such an individual? I suspect not. So why try to convince the public that bowing and scraping before an avowed baby-murder facilitator and homosexual-perversion advocate is being "civil"?
Catholic Elite Lexicon - "civility" = bowing, scraping, wining-and-dining, adulating and generally making nicey-nice with enemies of the Faith and common decency for the sole purpose of obtaining from said enemy money and/or political favors
In that same paragraph, we see that "for seven decades" and "every four years", such "civility" was extended to all presidential candidates. That's not true. In 1996, Cardinal O'Connor barred President Clinton from the dinner precisely because of the latter's policies against unborn babies. In 2004, Cardinal Egan did not invite John Kerry for the same reasons. Apparently these Cardinals understood that there are higher considerations than "civility".
I'm going to skip through a few errors and note a few more. The Cardinal (or his ghost writer) says that the dinner is "not an award or the provision of a platform". It most certainly is. It will lend to Obama a credibility of which he is totally unworthy. And yes, it does send a very clear signal that the Archdiocese of New York is turning its back on the babies to garner a few thousand dollars. The New York chancery deceives only itself if it really believes otherwise.
Later he asks "what message would it send if I refused to meet with the president"? Your Eminence, who is asking you to "refuse to meet with the president"? The venues for possible meetings are myriad! What we insist is that you do so in a way that actually serves the truth and doesn't provide scandal. By the way - who is one key individual who will be spiritually harmed by this scandalous example? President Obama himself! Yes indeed! By this attempt to curry his favor, the Archdiocese communicates to Obama that his worldly power is to be preferred to his spiritual well-being. Obama himself is a lost sheep, and the Archdiocese of New York is attempting to feed off him at this dinner. If Cardinal Dolan does not administer some "tough love" to Barack Obama, he may well have to answer for Obama's soul at his own final judgment.
From Lifesite News we read that Nellie Gray, foundress of the March for Life, passed away at her DC home over the weekend and was discovered earlier today. I knew her. She was a lady totally devoted to Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church and to the babies whom she championed for nearly half her life. I admired her tenacity and clarity of thinking and word.
Let us all keep her in our prayers. We can be certain that the babies whom she tried desperately to save are doing precisely that.
When I learn of funeral arrangements, I'll post them.
Réquiem ætérnam dona eis, Dómine, et lux perpétua lúceat eis. Requiéscant in pace. Amen
And I say "good for Michael"! Bill Donohue is not the only one who is trying to justify Cardinal Dolan's abysmal lack of judgment. Some Patheos-oriented blogs are doing the same; because the bloggers thereon are rewarded for the number of times they are clicked, I will not link to them.
As you watch, notice how Voris makes reference to a news article about the meeting between the Pope and Nancy Pelosi (between the 7:00 and 7:40 marks). The link is here. And here is the petition asking Cardinal Dolan to rescind the invitation to Obama.
Click here if you can't see embedded video. As one of the so-called "piety police", that is, one of the non-elite, I thank Mr. Voris for one again serving notice that we will not be silent while our Church (with millions of souls) is being sold down the river. I am glad to be a Peasant Catholic and am glad that this blog can play a small part in giving voice to so many.
Listen to Nancy Pelosi as she speak of her "encounter of the paranormal kind" several times. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
Some things to ponder:
The youtube page owner speculates that she is schizophrenic. Given the details that she relates, we can only hope that it is merely that.
Joseph Farrah of World Net Daily broaches the ominous possibility of demonic influence over Pelosi. Given her utter rejection of the tenets of her faith (even though she thinks she knows more than the Pope himself) and her promotion of baby-murder and sexual perversions, we have to acknowledge that very real possibility.
Notice that the second scenario of the ghostly telling is at Trinity College in Washington DC. That school once was Catholic and somehow still claims to be, although the faculty and staff don't blush with shame on the educational slop-jobs they did with both Pelosi and Kathleen Sebelius. Here's the video on Trinity's site. Consider that she is relating her rather occultic experience at a function that is supposedly Catholic - yet all of the other dignitaries behind her are all smiles as Pelosi waxes lyrical about ghosts!
The Archdiocese of San Francisco has a new shepherd - Bishop Salvatore Cordileone. I understand that he instructed Holy Redeemer Church not to feature drag queens at their events. I applaud him and urge prayers for him. Nancy Pelosi is one of his very lost sheep who is in desperate need of some tough love.
Yesterday at the Planned Parenthood in Silver Spring, MD, another neighborhood malcontent attempted to remove the pro-life signs on his own dubious authority. This case was a little different from the rest. He seemed to be enraged over one sign only - the sign with the word "abortionist" on it. So no, one cannot blame the "horrible graphic pictures" this time!
While he was grabbing for the sign, two men (one a priest) from our group approached. Their presence must have caused the man to reconsider the wisdom (or lack thereof) of his endeavors. He did call the police but left before they arrived.
Please note some things:
For all the self-righteous snooting and snorting that progressives heave our way, complaining that we "force our views" on others, this fellow seemed to have no qualms about literally forcing his views on us by attempting to steal the sign.
You'll notice his complaints about the sign "inciting violence". It seems the only violence being "incited" was his own. Do you think that maybe, just maybe, his lack of self-control or his own arrogance might have been contributing factors? Oh, no!! Perish the thought!!! It was all the fault of an arrow-shaped yellow sign no higher than the knee!
Towards the end, you'll hear him try to utter some lame excuse that the "abortionist" sign pointed out a specific individual. What nonsense! How many people listed in the White Pages go by the name "abortionist"?
That these people think they can arbitrate who gets to enjoy First Amendment rights should surprise no one. After all, they seem to think they can determine if a baby should be allowed to be born or to be subject to murder.
Yes, the Code Pink faction of the Minions Most Mindless is coming to the rescue of their adored Messiah Most Miserable! They hope that their presidential campaign strategy will save the day for Barack HUSSEIN Obama! And just what, pray tell, is this innovative, cutting-edge strategy? (drum roll and trumpets, please!)
(Code Pink's words, not mine!) "Send Your V to the RNC!"
You can read about it on the redredhead blog, along with "artistic representations". On the most basic scientific level, these dumb broads don't know the difference between "vulva" and "vagina". More to the point, they themselves are meting out to women the treatment of which they accused the "male chauvanistic pigs" around 40 years ago. They're objectifying women (meaning themselves), representing themselves as mere body parts. My friend at Les Femmes has a very telling photo of some of those pathetic dames. Is this the end-product of feminism?
With these hare-brained antics, the progressives are letting the world know that liberalism is brain-rot. If they really think this will help Obama come November, let them carry on in their delusions. But pray for their repentance, as they are toying with their eternal fates.
To get an idea of Mr Ryan's abilities, watch this (here if you can't see embedded video).
The vice-presidential debates will be a delight to watch! But one must have some pity not only on Biden, but also those poor little "nuns on the bus". Think of it - they traipse all over the country whining about Ryan's budget - only to see him picked for the Number 2 spot on the GOP ticket! I bet George Soros isn't very happy to see that bus trip wasted.
And yes, Paul Ryan is pro-life - and Catholic too!
(This originally appeared Sunday Aug 5th. Now the collection is here - DON'T GIVE!)
The CCHD collection for the Archdiocese of Washington will occur on the weekend of Aug 11-12 (THIS WEEKEND!). In the August 2nd edition of the Catholic Standard, Mark Zimmerman waxed lyrical about the "virtues" of the CCHD. Read it. Notice that one of the CCHD recipients is the Washington Interfaith Network. Zimmerman describes WIN as being an organization that "advocates for the poor and forgotten in our community". Well, not exactly!
At the very first glimpse of the WIN website, we see that they are an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation. The IAF (and thus, WIN, the recipient of CCHD funds from the Washington Archdiocese) was founded by Saul Alinsky himself. Barack Hussein Obama launched his career as a community organizer along the model of Alinsky, working for both the Gamaliel Project and the now-disgraced ACORN (the latter having received thousands from the ADW in the past). Here are some quotes, by the way, from Rules for Radicals, Alinsky's signature work. Notice therein the tribute to Obama issued by David Alinsky, Saul's son.
Now consider where this "community organizer" sits - in the White House. He, with assistance from faux-katholics Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius and others, have enjoined upon each and everyone of us a draconian mandate to fund abortifacients for everyone who thus demands them. He has been propelled into power with the assistance of Alinskyan organizations such as WIN. And the Catholic Standard continues to shill for them???
I will now go into another personal irritation with Zimmerman's shill piece. He mentions "Gabriel Network of Prince George's County". What???!!?! Whazzup with this "of Prince George's County" nonsense??? The Gabriel Network is a state-wide organization that is over ten years old! As a former board officer of the Gabriel Network, I am rather familiar with the structure of the organization - it is not limited to PG County. This gaffe on the part of the editor of an archdiocesan publication is absolutely inexcusable!!!!
The Gabriel Network is most definitely a worthwhile charity, offering practical aid to mothers in crisis situations. Here is their website. If you are inclined to support their excellent work, please donate directly to them. That is in fact a suggested practice for any favorite charity. Donate directly to them. Why trust a "middleman"?
To render more effective your boycott of the CCHD collection, I make available to you now a flyer that you can place in that CCHD collection basket. Last year we sent this out as a postcard to Catholics in the Baltimore area to urge a boycott of their CCHD collection. We didn't have time to do the same here, but you can still use this. Print it out, preferably in color. If you have a duplex printer, you can print the two pages on both sides (flipping on the long edge). In the big white space, you can sign your name or write a note elaborating on the need for a boycott; of course you'll want to maintain respect and decorum as you write that note. You can fold it and put it in your envelope if you use them. Who knows? If the chancery sees enough of these notes, they might finally wake up.
Those of you outside the DC area who might want to use this template for your own locality, please contact me via the comments and I'll be happy to email the original file (in Microsoft Publisher 2010) to you.
Those were Cardinal Burke's words regarding the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (at the 2:00 mark). He further stated that the Holy See that founded the LCWR and thus has the right to say whether or not the LCWR is fulfilling its mission.
In my humble opinion, it's time to put the LCWR in the ash heap and suggest that the not-so-good sisters spend some time in much needed prayer, reflection and repentance. Click here if you cannot see embedded video.
First the video, then I'll comment below. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
Here is the New York Archdiocesan blog post to which Voris refers. I trust you've noticed that the domain is that of the Archdiocese of New York, as well as the logo at the top of the post. Voris uses the word "insulting", with "insulting the intelligence" to politely describe the lies being promulgated in Mechmann's reply. That's right! I said lies! I can understand Voris's hesitation about being up front about the nature of Mechmann's - no, rather the Archdiocese's - statements, given the dust-up he had to endure from the Archdiocese of Detroit. However, I have no bones whatsoever about stating the following observation.
In this blog post, the Archdiocese of New York deliberately tells lies. Such is a sin against the Eighth Commandment. Whether the sin is mortal or venial I cannot fathom. But there is sin - unless, of course, Mechmann et al are so idiotic that culpability is reduced. In that case, they have no business occupying positions of responsibility.
I read that blog post, of course. There is much slop and error contained therein. I await Voris' future installments. If there are anomalies upon which he doesn't touch, I will.
Until then, keep after Cardinal Dolan to rescind the invitation.
Because I sure did! What did I miss? (Drum roll and trumpets, please!)
The 2012 Leadership Conference of Women Religious Assembly in St. Louis MO, from Aug 7-10
Actually it ends tomorrow (Deo gratias!), but their true colors certainly did fly.
From Father Z's blog we read that the keynote speaker of the event was Barbara Marx Hubbard. What does she consider her life's mission? Well, that's straight from her Facebook page: "to be a voice for the Collective Emergence of humanity as a Co-creative Universal Species". I can just imagine that her address induced, uh, "deep meditation" among the attendees. The National Catholic Reporter noted that "Teilhard would find in Barbara a kindred spirit". The NCR might well be correct; many of Teilhard's writings were condemned by the Church! At the very least, she certainly shows a knack for inventing interesting-sounding words like "regenopause".
By the way - for all their snivveling about what they claim is the Vatican's refusal to "dialog", why did they not allow the CDF laison, Bishop Sartain, to attend their meeting? Such snubbing hardly seems conducive to "dialog".
There was a protest of the LCWR meeting. By whom? Right-wing religious zealots? Nope! SNAP! There have been cases of abuse perpetrated by women religious. So why, oh why, was there complete silence of this protest? Had this been a clergy meeting, SNAP would have been featured front and center of all the coverage. Could it be because the progressive media doesn't want to air "in-fighting"? So much for truth in media.
By now most people have heard that both presidential candidates will be the main speakers at the Alfred E Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, hosted by Catholic Charities of New York. It will be held Thursday, October 18th at the Waldorf-Astoria.
That's right! Once again, the Messiah Most Miserable, the most abortion-fostering president to date, is being wined and dined and adulated at a Catholic event. Of course decent people are outraged at this invitation. Obama has shown himself to be openly hostile to Christian values of life and morality - particularly as they are displayed by Catholics. Even now we are fighting the draconian HHS mandates that came into play a few days ago.
Cardinal Dolan's office tried to stave off criticism. His spokesman, Joseph Zwilling, claimed, "this is not a partisan event. It is an evening to put politics aside and come together in a spirit of civility." Well, here are a few questions for Mr. Zwilling and (by extension) His Eminence.
If this is not a "partisan event", just what kind of event is it? Answer - a money-grubbing event, and an event to flatter the wealthy and powerful.
When you "put politics aside", what else are you putting aside? Answer - your Christian principles, your sense of right versus wrong.
If you think you're putting politics aside, do you really think Obama is doing the same? You are handing to him, on a silver platter, the perfect photo-ops to use on the Catholic public just two weeks away from the presidential elections. But if you really persist in that belief, may I sell to you the Brooklyn Bridge?
If you really want to engage in a "spirit of civility", why not ask Obama to "reach across the table" in that regard? The fact is that while the dinner is occurring and all the schmoozing and elbow-rubbing occurs, babies will be murdered during that time. Try asking Obama to have all abortions in New York City suspended while that dinner occurs and see how far that "civility" will go!
Father Frank Pavone, president of Priests for Life, denounced Obama's planned appearance at the dinner. His remarks, though brief, are spot-on. Of particular note is his statement, perhaps as a retort to Zwilling, "there comes a time when the polite putting aside of differences for a while amounts to scandal". Father Pavone is correct.
Over three years ago, Obama gave the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame. That was roundly and rightly criticized. Among the critics was - Cardinal Dolan! Read his statement from April 15, 2009! He said (among other things), "by inviting President Obama to deliver the commencement address and to receive
an honorary degree, Notre Dame wrongly signaled to students 'we hold him up as a
model to you'". I submit that there is no change between that occasion and this. Why the change in Cardinal Dolan's outlook between then and now? I submit that Cardinal Dolan is sending the same signal now that he so correctly deplored in 2009. This dichotomy in the Cardinal's two positions is rendered more stark by the evils thrust on this nation during the intervening three years.
I now post below some comments from the Vortex, as well as a petition that Michael Voris is asking all to sign, to have this ridiculous invitation rescinded. Click here if you can't see embedded video.
I frankly believe the petition will be ignored (although I'd welcome being proved wrong in this case). In that case, it might be necessary for Catholics (and others of good will) to take to the streets in front of the Waldorf-Astoria in protest, as did hundreds of good people at Notre Dame. The onus for this will largely be on the faithful of New York. Are we up for it?
The CCHD of Boston has sunk to new lows in the foisting of Catholic money upon dissident groups. According to this Boston Globe article, the Chelsea Collaborative, a community-organizing group that partners with "gay-rights" organizations, has received grants from the local CCHD from the years 2000-2007. They have always known that their stances put them at odds with official CCHD organizations.
Last March a representative from the CCHD paid them a visit and emphasized the need for them to avoid collaborations with "gay-rights" efforts that are in variance with Church teaching if they wished to receive CCHD funds. Gladys Vegas, Chelsea's executive director, made the decision to forego CCHD monies in favor of their gay alliances. Chelsea returned a $40k grant and withdrew their organization for the following year.
One might think it might have been the end of that story. We actually see an example of a CCHD staff person doing their job in making certain that Catholic monies remain untainted by association with dissident groups. And to be clear, Ms. Vegas's actions were quite commendable. Granted she didn't voice agreement with Catholic teaching, but at least she acknowledged it for what it is and respected the prerogatives of the Church regarding usage of Catholic donations.
Not nearly as honorable was the behavior of Randy Keesler, a CCHD "grant specialist". He sent an email to Vegas to suggest that she should have contacted him first before returning the money. He states,"“We have relationships and work in partnership with many organizations at the national level which differ from the Catholic church’s teachings."
In response to that most revealing (Freudian slip) statement, some questions need to be asked:
In heavens' name, WHY?
Surely there are enough organizations that don't oppose Church teaching that would be worthwhile partners. Why not stick with those?
Why on earth should a faithful Catholic want to donate one penny to the CCHD that is pathologically driven to kiss-up to organizations that oppose Church teaching?
As I was reading about this latest CCHD episode of insanity, the following verses from the prophet Ezekiel came to mind (Ezekiel 16:33-34) "Gifts are given to all harlots: but thou hast given hire to all thy lovers, and
thou hast given them gifts to come to thee from every side, to commit
fornication with thee. And it hath happened
in thee contrary to the custom of women in thy fornications, and after thee
there shall be no such fornication: for in that thou gavest rewards, and didst
not take rewards, the contrary hath been done in thee."
The following verses would make for worthwhile reading, too.
For those of you who might think I'm over the top in comparing the CCHD with prostitutes, please recall this less-than-lovely incident that occurred in Baltimore several years ago.
A monthly email from the Archdiocese of Washington's Department of Charity and Justice is promoting something called "Sunday Souposiums" put on by the Franciscan Monastery. Some further research indicates that the "soup" might contain just a smidgen of rat poison.
My friend at the Tenth Crusade alerted me to the fact that Cardinal George of Chicago publicly rebuked Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel for the latter's none-too-veiled threats against Chick-Fil-A's in Chicago. That is truly heartening to hear. I understand that DC mayor Vincent Gray likewise had some unflattering things to say about the restaurant chain's owner who stood for traditional marriage. Dare I wait for DC Cardinal Wuerl to utter a peep? I'm not holding my breath! C'mon, your Eminence! Prove me wrong!
Well, I tried to buy dinner at the Germantown MD Chick-Fil-A! But by the time I broke away from the office and drove to Germantown, it was apparent that I'd be waiting at least an hour before getting through the door. But it was a heartening sight to see, especially in the Liberal-La-La-Land known as Montgomery County MD. I imagine that Ike Leggett, the County Council and all their progressive money-bags must be shaking their heads and fists, but I digress!
So that you too can see signs of common sense and decency in Montgomery County MD, I share with you now what I saw in Germantown a few hours ago. It is a sight that was (probably still is in the western time zones) common across the USA at Chick-Fil-A's. Enjoy! Click here if you can't see embedded video.
