Saint Teresa Of Calcutta

Today it was announced that Pope Francis recognized the second miracle needed for the canonization of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.  Please read the details of the miracle at the Church Militant site.  While she is rightly celebrated for her work with the poor and those dying in destitution, she was a staunch opponent of baby-murder, stating famously that "the greatest destroyer of peace is abortion."  She made that statement at the 1994 National Prayer Breakfast, with pro-abortion President Clinton in attendance.  Pay special attention at the 13:30  mark.  Clearly she was not afraid to proclaim the truth.  Her resolute adherence to the teachings of Jesus Christ in matters of faith and morals were as much a part of her canonization as well as her works of charity.  In fact, her fidelity may be the greater factor as it was the foundation for her works of charity.

Let us ask her intercession for the conversion of the world to Jesus Christ through His Church.

In February 1994 (almost twenty years ago) Mother Teresa spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast.  I remember watching this shortly after the breakfast with some pro-life friends.  We cheered, for she literally spoke truth to power.  The key point was driven home from 13:30 to 13:57.  At that point the camera pans out when the applause is at the loudest.  Only the Clintons and the Gores sit still and silent, like zombies.  I sure hope their consciences were pricked, if only for a few moments.

I remember watching the video of this.  The Clintons and the Gores were in attendance.  When Mother Teresa pronounced her words (at the 14:37 mark), "I think the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion," they stared in stoney silence.  No wonder, as she told them - straightforward - that they were advocating not only the murders of babies, but the destruction of any basis for peace and justice.  Would that the bishops and clergy of today had the clarity and fortitude of this woman (some do, but their numbers are way too few at this time).  Click here if you cannot see embedded video.
