Open Letter To Americans United For Separation Of Church And State

On Easter Saturday, Bishop Daniel Jenky of the Diocese of Peoria (IL) delivered a homily to his congregation. I blogged on it yesterday.  Now comes the none-too-surprising "news" that the usual gang of progressive suspects have their panties in a twist.  Americans United for Separation of Church and State have filed suit against the Diocese of Peoria.  Methinks there's a bit of double-standard.  I have issued the following open letter to the AUSCS.  Will I get a response?  I'm not holding my breath!   The letter follows the jump break, so ..

Bishop Jenky Lays It On The Line

Bishop Daniel Jenky of the Diocese of Peoria IL gave a homily during Easter Saturday Mass that should serve as a model for his brother bishops and all priests.  He spoke on the transformation of the Apostles after they encountered the Risen Lord, and how that transformation impelled them to proclaim the Gospel in the wake of malevolent governments and corrupt cultures.  He names plenty of names in rebukes, including Obama himself, and urges every Catholic to vote properly.  But I needn't rehash it here.  The Diocese of Peoria has the homily on mp3 podcast - please listen to it.  Yes it is downloadable.

Local Diocese Investigates Firing of Professor at University of Illinois

The American Papist reports that the Diocese of Peoria is making inquiries of the University of Illinois over the firing of Dr Ken Howell after the latter was dismissed for representing the Church's teaching regarding the gay lifestyle (this done in the context of a Catholic studies course).

At least they are taking notice of this matter and letting the University (and the world at large) know that they are taking this matter seriously.  Clearly that is an improvement over the dismissive attitude portrayed by the Diocese of St Cloud after Professor PZ Myers of the University of Minnesota (Morris) drove a rusty nail through the Eucharist (and some pages of the Koran - he's an "equal opportunity" buffoon) and threw all in the trash amidst much internet fanfare two years ago.

Let us pray that the Diocese of Peoria has the tenacity to see the matter through and to come to the defense of the Faith.
