ADW's Next Bumpy Ride Gets Underway

As of today, our archdiocese is now under the spiritual care (or lack thereof) of Archbishop Wilton Gregory.  His installation Mass and ceremony today was a mere harbinger of things to come.  From Catholic News Agency we see some snippets of insipidity.  To wit: "I want to be a welcoming shepherd who laughs with you whenever we can, who cries with you whenever we must, and who honestly confesses his faults and failings before you when I commit them, not when they are revealed"

No, no, NO!  Forget all this talk of "laughing" and "crying", Your Excellency!  You are our designated leader and shepherd!  Where are the promises to uphold the Sacred Deposit of the Faith?  Where are the promises to call dissidents to repentance and to discipline them when necessary?  Where are the promises to expunge the poisons of abortion advocacy and gay-coddling from the clergy and church structures?

Enough of this talk of giggling and blubbering!  That is silly, effeminate, touchy-feely fairy-talk!  Such a squishy screed confirms our misgivings that the dissidence-coddling of your Atlanta days  simply changed locations.  For us in the Archdiocese of Washington, it portends at best that our episcopal leadership will be lack-luster at best.  I hope to be proved incorrect.

But alas, two other harbingers of continued mediocrity were at that Mass.  Those "signs" are now-disgraced Cardinal Wuerl and now-disgraced Cardinal Mahony.  Yes, they were right up there.  I wouldn't be a bit surprised if McCarrick was also in attendance.  Of course in his laicized state he would have had to be in the congregation.  But I digress.

Given the way that both Wuerl and Mahony have disgraced their own collars and robes, a normal person might have presumed that they would stay away.  But they didn't.  Were they defiantly sending a message that their vision for the Church in the US was being advanced by Gregory's placement as Archbishop of Washington?  I wouldn't be surprised for unfortunately they may be correct.  That is all the more reason to pray that our clergy return to the One True Faith.

Kudos To Faithful Catholics Of Scranton PA

When it was announced that disgraced Cardinal Mahony was going to represent the pope at the 150th anniversary Mass for the Diocese of Scranton, faithful Catholics protested loudly to that chancery.  They threatened a protest of the event if it went through.  The chancery saw the light and later announced that Mahony was "unable to attend" the event.

Faithful Catholics, never believe the pernicious lie that your voice doesn't matter.  The above account (and others told on this blog) constitute proof that you can be heard and heeded as you raise your voice for the Faith.  Pray.  Band together with other faithful Catholics.  Strategize with one another as their is strength in numbers.  Through God's grace and your hard work, you can and must play a part in restoring our Church and culture for Christ.

Cdl Mahony - Oh Woe Is He!

Get out your hankies and prepare to shed a tear at this tale of woe written by Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles - its archbishop emeritus.  He is sharing that he is "called to be humiliated"!  And "rebuffed"!  Doesn't that just break your heart?

Your Eminence, maybe you brought this upon yourself?  How about the sex abuse coverups?  How about the heretic-fests that were publicly known as the LA Religious Education Conferences?  How about the complete bastardization of the Mass in those same conferences?  Get the picture?

I agree that you may well be called to penance for your abysmal performance.  But please don't try to portray yourself as an object of pity.  Man up and accept the penance for your own sake.

All others, you might want to break out the barf bags after reading that sob story.

The Noxious Legacies Of Bernardin And Mahony

Today's Vortex delves into the wreckage foisted on the Church by these two prelates.  Now Cardinal Bernardin has gone to his eternal reward (whatever that might be) and Cardinal Mahony recently had his wings clipped.  Still we must deal with the aftermath of their reigns of terror and dissent.  Let us pray that Cardinal Mahony respond to the grace of repentance.

California Cleansing

On February 1 it was announced that Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez has informed his predecessor, retired Cardinal Roger Mahony, that he has been relieved of any duties within the archdioceses.  Furthermore, he has accepted the resignation of Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Curry.  This comes on the heels of his release of the files of those archdiocesan personnel accused of sexual abuse of minors.

In the wake of the archbishop's actions, the cardinal has posted his response to him.  As you read the letter, you will probably sense the petulance and sniveling therein.  The letter starts with the ridiculous excuse that "nothing in my education equipped me to deal with this grave problem".  What of basic decency or common sense?  Moreover, there was the grace of the Sacrament of Holy Orders itself.  There's the equipment.

Let us pray that some sense of repentance and of the dignity of the office of bishop be infused into Cardinal Mahony for the sake of his own immortal soul.  From the sound of his response, both are sorely lacking at this time.  Let us also pray that other dioceses in this nation experience similar expurgations.
