Father Marcel Guarnizo On The Presidential Race
Father Marcel Guarnizo, about whom I've written in the past, recently published some thoughts regarding the presidential race this year. We do need a president who will respect and uphold the US Constitution and not just give it lip service. For the record, I will be voting for Cruz during Maryland's primaries in April.

Rick Santorum Ends His Presidential Campaign
It's all over the internet by now, that Rick Santorum has suspended his campaign. In other words, it's over. Barring some lightning bolt out of the blue, Mitt Romney is poised to take the GOP nomination and run against Obama.
While I would have preferred Santorum to Romney, I much more prefer Romney to Obama. These are the cards that are dealt to us. We must play them or we, as a nation, will lose.

ADL - "Don't Vote Your Religion - Unless We Approve!"
Did they really say that? Well, here's their press release. Note their condescending quote: "religious appeals to voters are simply unacceptable and un-American" Well this American says that such appeals are completely acceptable. Who appointed the ADL as arbitor of what I must consider "unacceptable"? They go on to say that we should judge the candidates based on their integrity. As far as I'm concerned, a candidate's religion (or lack thereof) is part and parcel of their integrity. Religious adherence is not an immutable charactieristic, as is ethnicity, physical size, etc. People choose their religious affiliations and their practices; those choices say volumes about who they are as people and how they'll conduct themselves in public office.
Does that make me a bigot? Well let me illustrate with an example. In the year 2000, in Maryland's 8th Congressional District, Connie Morella was opposed by Democrat Terry Lierman. Both were pro-abortion Catholics. Seeking access to the ballot as a third candidate was Brian Saunders - a pro-life Jew affiliated with the Constitution Party. I and several others worked very hard to secure him access to the ballot (via petition signatures). We succeeded in doing so. Unfortunately in Montgomery County the GOP was (still is) dominated by RINOs and Morella won the general election. A candidate's avowal of Catholicism will not automatically win my vote by a long shot.
Today's Vortex does a great job in exposing the hypocrisy of the ADL and other progressives (and the Detroit archdiocese is trying to submarine him?). Click here if you can't see embedded video.

The Iowa Caucus Results - And Some Maryland News
Most by now have heard the results of yesterday's Iowa caucus. Romney was favored to win and indeed he did - but only by 8 votes. Rick Santorum virtually tied that vote - no small feat for one considered to be quite the underdog coming into the caucus. Following behind them were Paul, Gingrich, Perry, Bachman and Huntsman (in that descending order).
I understand that Michele Bachman suspended her campaign. In her remarks, she urged unity behind the eventual GOP nominee to defeat the Obama Hell Bill (my term, not hers). I have the utmost respect for that lady.
Now I'll preface these next few statements by reminding one and all that this blog is NOT a "501c-anything". That means I can voice all sorts of endorsements without running afoul of Infernal Robbery Syndicate.
At this time, I am voicing support for Rick Santorum. For a handy checklist of the candidates' positions on key life/moral issues, you may visit this guide produced by the Family Research Council. I strongly suspect that many of Bachman's supporters will drift towards Santorum. I find the other candidates, for their own reasons, to be inferior to Santorum.
NOW FOR THE MARYLAND NEWS
It has come to my attention that State Senator Nancy Jacobs is running for US Congress. She has her sights set on the seat currently held by pro-abortion Dutch Ruppersberger in Maryland's 2nd Congressional District (east of Baltimore, snaking from Harford County down to Glen Burnie and Severn). She is slated to make her official announcement tomorrow, Jan 5th, 11:00am at Jad's Caddy Shack in Essex, MD. She's solidly pro-life and deserves our support.
