The Necessity Of Holy Outrage

Two weeks ago I broadcast the planned lecture of Catholic school children by a flaming lesbian on school property, and urged a protest if the invitation was not rescinded.  Happily that lecture didn't happen, owing to the looming prospect of a picket.  If nothing else, it demonstrated the good that can transpire when good people stand up and speak out.

Today LifeSiteNews published a piece by Phil Lawler entitled "The Laity Can Take Credit For The Defrocking Of McCarrick.  What Next?"  I think I would thank Our Lord first, but He did see fit to work through us.  What if we had not been responsive to His promptings?  Lawler was speaking of the summit that will start in two days.  While he shares my belief that the summit is a staged sham, he acknowledges that the Vatican wouldn't feel it necessary to put on such a show had it not been for faithful Catholics raising their voices and yes, closing their wallets.  He has a point.

In the center of Rome, faithful Catholics gathered to protest the Vatican's silence on the role of homosexuality in the abuse crisis in anticipation of this summit.  I believe that Michael Matt of the Remnant is among them.  This is the first activity of its kind in Church history.  Even if the bishops don't heed these Catholics (and they probably won't), they are again put on notice that we are watching and won't take anymore flapdoodle sitting down.

While more and more Catholics are praying and acting like they are part of the Church Militant, there remain some Catholics who insist on being horrified by righteous anger and calls for direct action.  They erroneously believe that prayer alone will solve the various crises that afflict the Church.  When we speak out, they often rebuke us (not the wrongdoers but us) for so doing.  All too often I have been chided by those saying "Tsk!  Tsk!  We mustn't get angry!  We must remain peaceful and joyful!  Don't you trust the Lord?", and so on.  These sorts of people are: 1) in deep denial regarding the true state of the Church, 2) confusing true spirituality with the luv-n-peace flower-child-hippy mentality of the 1960s, 3) masking their own cowardice and/or indifference behind a sanctimonious demeanor, 4) harboring some serious sin of their own that is facilitated by the sickness of the Church.  Whatever their reasons, they make themselves part of the problem.

If these misguided individuals won't listen to reason, they must be rebuked.  Faithful Catholics, understand that there will be costs in so doing.  I have found myself ostracized and mocked by people who I thought would know better.  Such is life.

Regarding outrage and anger, Msgr Pope wrote an excellent article about that. In that article, he quoted St. John Chrysostom, one of the Fathers of the Church; "He who is not angry when he has cause to be, sins. For unreasonable patience is a hotbed of many vices."

Let us also recall the words of  St. Catherine of Sienna, a Doctor of the Church: "We've had enough of exhortations to be silent!  Cry out with a thousand tongues.  I see that the world is rotten because of silence".  Ora et labora.

Prayer And Protests - Cardinal Wuerl

A few days ago some of us wondered whether or not Cardinal Wuerl took flight.  Well, he is back in town and offered Mass at Annunciation Church this morning.   He tried a verbal tap dance around the mess.  He then asked the parishioners in attendance to remain loyal to Pope Francis as "increasingly it is clear that he is the object of considerable animosity".

One parishioner just wasn't having any of that.  He shouted "shame on you!" as he walked out of Mass.  Another parishioner in the choir loft stood up, turned her back and folded her arms as Wuerl continued his spiel.  Usually I'm not a fan of disburbances at Mass, but neither am I a fan of dissident clergy carrying on at Mass as though the congregation was their captive audience.  That itself is its own disburbance.

I don't think these clergy should feel comfortable as they prattle on like that.  They need to be made most decidedly uncomfortable if they continue to play faithful Catholics like patsies.  Tomorrow lends to us another opportunity to do just that.

I have become aware of a gathering of priests tomorrow, Monday Sept 3, 5pm, at the Church of the Little Flower on Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda MD.  I am suggesting that Catholics congregate on the public sidewalk in front of the church along Massachutsetts Avenue to pray and offer reparation.  If any do bring signs that ask for his resignation, please use language befitting Catholics - no profanity, imprecation, etc.

In my first report, I mentioned that videos would be forthcoming, so that you can see for yourselves what happened.  Here are three of them. The first two are of the rescues that occurred in VA and DC.  The third is the one that happened in Michigan.  Hopefully my readers will be posting some videos of their own actions to save babies.

Catholic Street Activism

TFP Student Action is a group of young Catholic men who among other things are willing to defend the Faith in the streets and through protests.  They were with us during the two occasions when I joined pickets of pro-abortion speakers at Georgetown University.  They were with pro-life activists during the #protestpp demonstration in Washington DC (see the two linked sites at this post).   For as long as I can remember, their signature red banners and sashes and bag pipes were with us at the annual March for Life in Washington on January 22nd.

I mention them because I think we have to be willing to emulate them.  Let's face it; many in the Church hierarchy (including, sad to say, Pope Francis) are showing themselves to be indifferent if not hostile to Sacred Tradition.  No longer can we sit on our hands and suffer in silence while Our Lord is blasphemed and our children are scandalized.  For too long the malefactors have been comfortable in their mischief, assuming that we'll do and say nothing.  Well, as Dorothy Day might say, we have to afflict the comfortable.

Below I post a video of a protest that TFP Student Action did at Marquette University.  I presume that they did so in protest of the University's treatment of Dr. John McAdams, who tweeted his respect for God's plan for marriage.  Oh by the way - Marquette claims to be a Catholic institution.

As you watch this, you'll notice the horrid behavior of the campus left-wingers.  See how TFP Student Action does not back down.  While they are respectful, they make no effort to be conciliatory.  Indeed, that would be impossible without compromising truth.  We must emulate that.  As occasions arise, I'll be posting opportunities for such activism.

Faithful Catholics! We Must Step Outside Our Comfort Zones!

Today's Vortex is a report of the escapades of Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, OP, former head of the Dominicans who has jumped the tracks, so to speak, to shill for acceptance of the mortal sin of homosexual behavior.

Radcliffe had just concluded a speaking tour in the Diocese of San Diego.  Voris features some reactions of faithful Catholics in that diocese, and their frustrations at having their pleas for correction ignored and rebuffed by the chancery.  Question!  Is there more that faithful Catholics can do in such situations?  Most likely, yes BUT it will mean that we must step outside our comfort zones and raise our voices that will cause the dissidents and their supporters to lose their comfort.  More after the video.



My first experience of this was in September 2012.  A Montgomery County parish was planning a commemoration of the 9-11-01 attacks.  One feature of their commemoration was to allow Connie Morella to address the congregation from the pulpit (although I don't think this would have been during Mass).  At the time she was a "katholyc" US Representative.  Some of us got wind of this a few days beforehand and made clear that a picket would happen if she spoke (I bought a bull-horn for that occasion).  They saw the light of day and canceled her talk.  On that occasion a picket wasn't necessary - not so other occasions.

We found ourselves picketing Catholic high school commencements when the convocation addresses were being given by flagrant pro-aborts.  I link now to the protest we did outside Gonzaga's 2010 commencement, when Sr Carol Keehan was the main attraction.  We've also shed light on other planned travesties, such as the Catholic Businessmen's Network planned hosting of Mark Shriver last month.  After a number of us protested, it was determined that Shriver "had a scheduling conflict".

My point is that we cannot allow these scandalous events to proceed without pricking their consciences.  We have to aim to make them uncomfortable in the conduct of these debacles.  Yes, many will hate and despise us (as you might have noticed in the comments on my Gonzaga post).  So what?  They want to conduct their squalid sorties in quiet, low-key fashions.  We cannot reward them by being "polite" as these talks, etc are conducted.  Ideally, when we protest first in writing, phone calls, etc, they'll see the light and cancel.  If not, we must go into action.  We must be willing to raise protests, taking to the streets when advantageous.  Leaflet cars and parking lots where dissidents are speaking.  Picket outside the events.  Go inside and ask probing questions.  Who among us will commit to that?  If not, complaints to the chanceries will be useless.

Tea Party activists lined a street on which Obama's motorcade traveled to protest his, and the lame-brain mainstream media's abysmal silence on Benghazi.  I suppose his dream-team goons would have mad the protesters their targets?  Kudos to those Tea Party activists!
