Election Time Means Wisdom On Windshields

In less than two weeks the polls will open as many elected offices are up for grabs.  In Maryland, for example, every local office from the governor on down to the county clerks will be filled based on the people voting.

Many people will be sporting on their cars the names of their favorite candidates.  Unfortunately that means you may well see, in a Catholic parking lot, a car touting the candidacy of someone promoting abortion, gay lifestyles, etc.  Obviously they are either dissident from the Church in matters of public morals OR they are victims of lousy catechesis.

Progressive Poison At Blessed Sacrament In DC

Yesterday as I parked my car on Western Avenue to attend Mass at Blessed Sacrament (just off Chevy Chase Circle) another Mass-goer came from behind me and parked his car on Quesada St, just outside the church's side door.  He got out and went in.

I could not help but notice as he drove past me the garish rainbow-colored "Obama" bumper strip on his car.  I realized he was in desperate need of some education.  Fortunately I always carry a supply of  Wisdom on Windshields.  It is an educational flyer that can be placed on the car of the obviously oblivious fellow Catholic.  I placed it on his car and went into the church myself.  I was dismayed (but not too terribly surprised) to notice that this man was the lector for the Mass.  By the time I left Mass, he had already driven away.

I resume my discussion of Blessed Sacrament.  I picked up a parish bulletin.  Because it was Saturday, the bulletin actually was for the previous weekend.  Here it is.  Now go to page 4 and look at the left-hand column.  Why, oh why, is anything by Sister Joan Chittister being put forth as being suitable reading for Catholics?  At Blessed Sacrament, is any responsible adult monitoring the goings-on at the parish library?  I ask not only because of their dubious offerings but because I understand that it was the library that invited both Chris Matthews and Mark Shriver for their book-signings (both of which we picketed, by the way).

Moving down to page 5, on the right-hand side, we see that Blessed Sacrament is touting a celebration of Earth Day.  "Well, so what?", one might ask. The problem is that the Washington Interfaith Network is spearheading this.  WIN makes no bones that they are the DC-area affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation.  As you look on their webpage, you'll see that they were "founded in 1940".  By whom?  Well they weren't always so coy about that little detail.  The fact is that the IAF was the flagship organization founded by Saul Alinsky himself.  The wikipedia (correctly) states that among the many people he influenced was Barack Obama.  He also influenced Msgr Jack Egan, who was instrumental in establishing the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

Now not only is the bulletin giving credibility to Alinskyites, but notice something else about the ad.  They want to "reduce storm water pollution".  Sounds nice, doesn't it?  Well, the Maryland parishioners might want to take notice of that one in light of the "rain tax" with which Annapolis just saddled us.

I decided to take a look at this weekend's bulletin.  Go to page 4.  You'll see unabashed shilling for gun registration and the Catholic "climate covenant".  Meanwhile prominent parishioners sport Obama stickers on their cars and the librarian hosts katholyc pro-aborts to sign their books on Church property.  Boys and girls, what is wrong with this picture?

At this time of the year, when the election campaigns are gearing up, political bumper strips start appearing on cars.  You'll notice these at Mass.  Unfortunately, due to the abysmal catechesis that many Catholics received, you'll probably notice bumper strips for Obama (or other unworthy candidates) in your parking lot.  If you live in a liberal area (as do I) these strips will be showing up like kudzu.  What to do?

Christmas Gift Ideas!

As you know, Christmas is, for too many Catholics, one of the two occasions when they go to Mass (the other being Easter).  Having been separated from the Mass so long, they are most likely under the sway of secular culture when it comes to matters of public policy.  So in addition to seeing a few more cars than usual in the church parking lot, you'll most likely see many of them festooned with bumper strips touting the names of pro-gay and/or pro-abortion politicians.  Heaven knows they need education (especially with this upcoming critical election in 2012), but they probably won't hear anything decent at Mass.  But don't despair!

Readers of this blog will recall my "wisdom on windshields" initiative.  Basically it's a leaflet that you can print (I'd suggest several copies in color) that you can leave on the windshields or door handles of any car that sports the name of a pro-abortion personage.  You might even want to download the pdf to your own computer for future use (feel free to put the language on your own letterhead if you wish).  I always carry a supply to Mass as I never know when I'll see such a car.

USCCB's Servitude To The Democrat Party

That's what it is!  Why else do we see bishops, chanceries and state Catholic conferences wax so strident as they become the progressives' mouthpieces for issues such as anmesty and special privileges for illegal aliens, the death penalty, global warming, etc - and yet take a muted "pastoral approach" (to coin their buzz words) when it comes to intrinsic evils such as abortion, homosexual behavior, etc?

Voris has it right.  Their "voting guides" are silly at best.  Ever so careful of their "501c3 status", and ever more so careful not to offend their money-bags and sugar-daddies, they refuse to voice clear church teaching that politicians who support the intrinsic evils cannot be supported in any manner - including at the ballot box.  Since Voris goes nationwide, he is focusing only on Obama.  However, this Maryland Catholic will also add that most of the Democrat party in this state does not deserve a serious Catholic's vote.  The list of unacceptable candidates include (not limited to!) Barbara Mikulski, Martin O'Malley, Chris Van Hollen, Donna Edwards, etc.  Should you be at Mass and see on some ignorant soul's car a bumper strip for any one of these pro-abortion politicians, remember Wisdom on Windshields !  Download a copy here; print it out (preferably in color) and always carry some with you, as you'll never know who will need it.

San Diego Priest Preaches True Catholic Politics / Wisdom On Windshields

I saw this from Matt Abbott regarding Father Richard Perozich of the Diocese of San Diego.  I urge you to read the entire message that Father gave to his congregation.  I cannot quote the entire address here, but will reproduce one key paragraph.  All you "progressive types", deep breaths as you read this truth.

"For us Catholics the basic issues are: Life from conception to natural death, that is, protection of the unborn, those with life, and those who are sick; protection of new life in its most nascent form, the embryo; protection from cloning to farm body parts; protection from sexual deviance in the form of pederasty, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, prostitution."

Let me explain, along with Father.  If someone promises all sorts of things such as end to poverty, health care for all, etc, etc, but is wrong on any of those basic issues cited in the preceding paragraph, he/she does not deserve a Catholic's vote.  If any Catholic runs for office and his/her platform dissents from the Church's teachings on the above matters, his/her pastor must obey Canon 915 with respect to that recalcitrant politician.  How can that be any more clear?

That brings me to the second part of this post - Wisdom on Windshields . This is a tool I developed to help answer a crying need, as I'll now explain.  Due to poor catechesis, many Catholics do support anti-life and anti-family candidates.  You might see the telltale signs on their cars in the church parking lot in the form of bumper strips and other signage to that effect.  Clearly that person needs to be educated.  I've developed this so that you can enlighten your fellow Catholic in a manner that is discreet, and so that you don't have to worry about looking for the car's owner, being late for Mass, etc.   Wisdom on Windshields  is an educational flyer that you can put on that car's windshield; it briefly describes the teachings so eloquently proclaimed by Father Perozich and refers to other sources.  You may download it here and have it handy on your own computer.  Print out a supply and always take them to church with you.  You'll never know when you'll have need of them.  The fact is, when you use them, you are exercising several of the Spiritual Works of Mercy: instructing the ignorant, rebuking the sinner, counseling the doubtful.

As you know, Easter and Christmas are the only two times a year that many Catholics attend Mass.  A goodly percentage of them are woefully ignorant of Church teaching in many, many areas.  These areas may well include matters such as restoring God's order to public life and the primacy of life issues when making electoral/political decisions.  Some of this confusion may be manifest by bumper strips on cars that indicate support of pro-abortion politicians.  What can you do about that?  More than what you may have thought until now.

Yesterday, at a Saturday Mass in a Montgomery County parish, I spotted a car in the Church parking lot that was festooned with liberal bumper stickers - including that of Obama.  Fortunately I always carry a supply of Wisdom on Windshields with me for such occasions.  I pulled one out, placed it under the windshield wiper and continued on my way into church.

This flyer was developed precisely for the faithful Catholic who must often deal with cars in the Church parking lot that express support for politicians that espouse positions contrary to those of the Church on the non-negotiable issues such as life and marriage.  The Works of Mercy demand that we Instruct the Ignorant, Counsel the Doubtful and Rebuke the Sinner.  These are NOT options - they are mandates.  I suggest the use of these flyers as they allow one to perform these Works of Mercy without distracting from your original purpose of being at Church: Mass, etc.
