Another From the "Strange Bedfellows" Department
These weird "social justice" conferences do reveal the strangest of associations. On Saturday, Februrary 13, at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament (on Western Avenue in NW DC) the "Second Annual Conference on Faith, Deafness and Disabilities" will occur. Chuck Short is slated to give a presentation. Several years ago, he was Secretary of Justice and Service at the Archdiocese of Washington; he retired from that position in December 2005.
So what's Mr. Short doing now? Why, take a look at the above link and you'll see that he is currently "Special Assistant to Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett". Yes, that's the same Ike Leggett who NARAL proudly touts as a "partner of choice", and who will undoubtedly ratify that pregnancy center stifle-bill passed by the other "partners of choice" who occupy Montgomery County Council seats.
What is Mr. Short doing there? Will he use his position to thwart pro-abortion malfeasance on the part of Leggett? What did he have to do to garner that plum position? These are just a few questions that buzzed through my brain as I read this announcement in the most rcent Catholic Standard.

USCCB To Host Dissent-Fest in DC This Weekend
In the face of all the revelations of corruption and corrosion within its bowels, the USCCB is hosting its "Catholic Social Gathering" in Washington DC from Feb 7-Feb 10. It will take place at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill. The bevy of pro-abortion activists and other dissenters inclue:
As most local DC folks know by now, we're slated to get hit with a 2-foot blizzard this weekend. It is my fond hope that the storm will cause this thing to be the bust that it deserves to be. As it is, I cannot call a picket, as the roads will surely be impassible. However, let's pray that this thing fizzles.
- Father Thomas Reese, SJ, who the Vatican ordered removed from his post as editor of America magazine for publishing articles that questioned the Church on matters such as abortion, contraception, gay lifestyle, etc.
- Diana Hayes, gay rights activist who also espouses liberation theology, women's ordination
- Paul Booth, an abortion-rights activist who helped run NOW's Awards Gala. He is co-chairing a panel discussion at this event. And who is the other co-chair? Do you dare to take one wild guess? Yes indeed it's none other than...
- John Carr! (Surprise!)

What IS the USCCB Anyway? (Part Four of the Expose)
Continuing with our series, courtesy of Real Catholic TV, we examine the nature (apparent and hidden) of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Please watch below.
One thing Mr. Voris makes very clear is that the USCCB, as a body, has no teaching authority whatsoever. It cannot define Church teaching, nor can it clear up interpretations of the same. That belongs to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican, which was headed by Cardinal Ratzinger before he became Pope Benedict XVI.
Another aspect that should be examined is their financial picture. On their website (for now!) is their audited 2008 financial report. Take a look at it, especially page 5. Look at the revenue section and notice the two biggest income categories: national collections and (wait for it!) government contracts/grants! That's not all. Drop down to the operating expenses section and notice the two biggest categories there: grants and donations and some mysterious thing called "sub-recipient government contract expenses". I'm not making this up. Add the amounts from each of the pairings. Isn't it interesting how the totals almost equal? Now just think of this unsavory reality; a great deal of money comes from the government, and a great deal of money is given to ACORN, CCC, etc. Curious, is it not?
By the way - you should be able to save the financial report to your own computers, as it is simply a pdf file. I'd suggest doing so (I did), since Mr. Voris has warned us that the USCCB website has been rapidly mutating rather rapidly to expunge "embarrassing" information.

Real Catholic TV - Expose on USCCB Scandals - Part Two
Again, I urge you to watch all these as they're posted, and to alert your friends and other concerned Catholics to do the same. It is becoming increasingly clear that the USCCB, as an organization, is so thoroughly corrupt that it cannot be rehabilitated. It should be dismantled, as it is proving itself to be quite the cancer sucking the vitality from the One True Church.
Note what he says about the web sites being sanitized. That's not at all unlike the website of the MD Democrats being cleaned up to mask the affiliations of the five Montgomery Council members with NARAL.
The USCCB definitely is in "damage control" mode - and is stumbling over itself in the process. In response to the reports by American Life League and the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry, Sr Mary Ann Walsh, the USCCB's media director, said, the pro-abortion and homosexualist "activities highlighted in the ALL e-mail campaign took place long after" Carr left the CCC board. Later, she admitted to Lifesite News that she did not even read both reports. Please read the Lifesite News report to see how she verbally trips all over herself.

Montgomery County Council Votes to Stifle Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers
Today the County Council issued a press release announcing that it voted to pass the superficially-amended assault on the county's four pro-life pregnancy centers. Seven of the nine council members voted for it; Phil Andrews and Mike Knapp opposed it. (Please thank them)
To be honest, I knew this would probably happen since most of the council openly supports MD NARAL and lent their names to the NARAL program. Oh, by the way! In earlier posts, I provided a link to the MD Democrat site that had posted that program so you could see it for yourselves. Well, by golly, it has...disappeared!!! Aren't these strange and mysterious times in which we live? My, my! Fortunately a columnist at Newsbusters, Ken Shepherd, listed them: Trachtenberg, Berliner, Navarro, Ervin and Leventhal are the 5 councilmembers who sponsored NARAL. Since County Executive Ike Leggett also sponsored NARAL, he most certainly will affix his signature.
Folks, November 2010 will soon be here!

More on John Carr at the USCCB
My friend and Catholic Media Coalition colleague Stephanie Block is a regular columnist at Speroforum. Today her article on John Carr was published. It is entitled "The Scandal of John Carr at the USCCB". She delves into details of the mischief of which Carr was capable, and that he probably did commit.
She also highlights the work of Michael Hichborn of American Life League, who wrote, "I have discovered … full-blown Catholic cooperation with a pro-abortion and pro-homosexual organization at the highest levels of the CCHD. While John Carr and those he works with in the CCHD may profess to be pro-life, and we aren’t questioning this, the fact of the matter is that whatever justification may be offered for this kind of cooperation is nothing short of the flaccid excuses pro-abortion “Catholics” in public office toss out when they profess to be “personally pro-life, but …"
Please read this article, and stay tuned to this blog, to other blogs at the right sidebar and other sources that I cite. And please feed them no more money.

Interesting Defender of Tim Tebow's Superbowl Ad
Sally Jenkins is a sports columnist at the Washington Post. She penned an article called "Tebow's Super Bowl ad isn't intolerant; its critics are." She makes quite plain that she favors a woman's "right to choose (to kill her child)." However, she also makes quite plain her disdain for the shrieks emanating from NOW and its ilk over a 30-secon ad (so much for free speech, but this is no news for those of us in front of the abortuaries). Ms Jenkins makes a highly accurate observation when she states that NOW "isn't pro-choice as much as they're pro-abortion." She's dead-on correct about that.
She goes on to laud Pam Tebow for her choice and Tim for his responsible life choices. I urge one and all to read it. Also pray for Ms Jenkin's conversion as there are indeed promising signs.
