Frederick MD Man Nearly Starved To Death

Daniel Sanger suffered a heart attack and seizures.  At Frederick Memorial Hospital in Maryland, before he lost consciousness, he stated clearly to his doctor and mother that he wanted to live.  However, the hospital went with the wishes of his wife and stopped feeding him last Friday.

His mother and brother, Phyllis and Mark Sanger, obtained the assistance of Alliance Defense Fund.  With that, the hospital was ordered by the courts to restore water and food until a hearing next Wednesday.  Daniel Sanger is now responsive to hospital staff.

The ADF will seek to have his mother and brother named as temporary custodians instead of his wife.

The trial is set for next Wednesday.  Let us pray that the mother and brother are named as Sanger's custodians and that legalized starvation is defeated in this matter.  By the way - the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network did provide assistance to the ADF

Pro-Lifers' Free Speech Rights Vindicated In Harford County MD

In the summer of 2008, a number of pro-life demonstrators were arrested in Harford County.  Some of the young women were subjected to multiple strip searches.  The pro-lifers subsequently filed civil suit, with the assistance of the Alliance Defense Fund, American Catholic Lawyers' Association and the Thomas More Society.  Defend Life, to which I link on the right side bar, was one of the plaintiffs.

On July 13th, federal judge Richard Bennett ruled in favor of the pro-life plaintiffs, agreeing that their First and Fourth Amendment rights were utterly disregarded by Maryland state troopers.  We congratulate our pro-life colleagues and give thanks to God.

NARAL: Foiled Again By That Pesky First Amendment!

The liberal lemmings who occupy the New York City Council had passed Local Law 17, which was just a NYC version of the cpc gag law scripted by NARAL.  Of course Mayor Bloomberg signed it, even though he admitted it was unconstitutional.

You will recall that during this past year, the same measure was passed in Baltimore City and Montgomery County.  In both localities, the measure was struck down as being an undue infringement on the First Amendment rights of the pro-life centers and their directors/staff.

Today history has repeated itself in New York City.  I won't repeat the entire article here, but I will congratulate the Alliance Defense Fund and the American Center for Law and Justice, who provided crucial help to the New York pro-life centers.

Major Victory For Montgomery County Pregnancy Centers!

The Alliance Defense Fund is rendering crucial assistance to pro-life pregnancy centers by arguing for the plaintiffs in Centro Tepeyak v. Montgomery County.  In light of the victory won by Baltimore pregnancy centers, a federal court has ordered that the onorous regulation be put on hold.  Read the ADF press release here.

We too believe that the pregnancy centers will prevail against this ludicrous, NARAL-orchestrated farce that was put in place by pro-abortion advocates simply to ensure that blood money flows into the coffers of abortionists.  Thanks be to God, and let's soldier on!

Note: For some background on this matter, check out this blog's archives from December 1, 2009 onward.

Here are some posts regarding the ruling pertaining to Baltimore City:

Alliance Defense Fund And Schindlers Save The Life Of Woman Whom Georgetown Threw To The Curb

Last weekend I notified you of the plight of Rachael Nyirahaabiyambere, an immigrant from Rwanda whose feeding tube was removed at the instigation of Georgetown University Medical Center, a supposedly "Catholic" healing institution.  From now on, I'll use the adjective "catholyc" to refer to them.

At that time, I believed her death was inevitable and imminent.  Happily, I am proven incorrect.  She is still alive.  Moreover, as my fellow blogger Good Jesuit, Bad Jesuit reports, her feeding tube was restored by court order.  It appears that the Alliance Defense Fund  and the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network came to the assistance of the woman's family, who had previously been ill-served by lawyers who, at best, had "conflicts of interest".  With that assistance, the family obtained the humane help that their mother needs.  At least for now that murder is averted.

It's truly a blight on the local church that a secular court had to undo a murderous order instigated by a supposedly "Catholic" institution.  Additionally, it is a disgrace that there was not the slightest peep uttered from the offices of the Archdiocese of Washington regarding this murderous situation that was taking place within their boundaries.  (Could it be that they were too busy quashing the Pontifical Mass that was scheuled to occur at the Nationa Shrine next month?  See my fellow blogger's posts on that debacle.)  I also don't recall hearing diddly-squat from the USCCB, those self-reputed champions of the poor and oppressed.

Here's some reminders, from basic Catholic medical ethics.  The providing of food and/or water is not extraordinary medical care.  It is part of basic care; it is the duty of any medical institution - most especially a Catholic one - to provide that care without condition nor hesitation.  Got that, boys and girls of Georgetown?

MD Pro-Life Activists Vindicated In Suit Against Harford County

In the summer of 2008, the annual Face the Truth Tour, spearheaded by Defend Life, was interrupted in Harford County when police arrested the FTT participants who were peacefully standing along the road with their signs.  Moreover, three of the young women were strip-searched by the police.

Defend Life and the pro-life activists filed suit against the State of Maryland, Harford Couty and the Town of Bel Air.  They were, and are, being assisted by attorneys from the Alliance Defense Fund.

Harford County has settled with the activists.  According to the Lifenews article, the Harford State Attorney opposed the sheriff's office and its treatment of the pro-lifers.  However, there are two other defendants in the case: the Town of Bel Air and the State of Maryland.  If they do not settle, there will be a trial in federal court.

Prop 8 News From ADF

First, here's the weekly update from the Alliance Defense Fund. (Click here if you can't see embedded video).

Now for some good news.  The 9th Circuit Court today stayed Judge Vaughn Walker's ruling against Prop 8 until the court has had time to hear the case.  Miracles do happen, for who would have thought this from the 9th Court?

Alliance Defense Fund Weekly Update

The Alliance Defense Fund has been a friend of area Christians and pro-life activists, helping us to defend our First Amendment rights as we preach God's truth and engage in pro-life activism.  I just discovered these updates on Facebook and will be posting them.  (Click here if you can't see embedded video).

Centro Tepeyac Sues Montgomery County Over CPC Strangulation Bill

With assistance from the Alliance Defense Fund, Centro Tepeyac Pregnancy Center of Silver Spring filed suit on account of the pregnancy center "regulation" bill that the Montogmery County Council passed several months ago by a 7-2 vote.  Lifenews relates more detail on the suit.

The council held a public hearing on December 1, 2009.  I attended it and recorded it.  Several snippets of that recording are posted on this blog.  I invite you to go back and review the clips and related information.

As additional developments become known to me, I will post them here.  Please pray that truth and justice prevail, and that the pregnancy centers can save babies and mothers unfettered by the pro-death elements within our government.
