McCarrick Wrote The Land O Lakes Statement?

This episode of the Vortex claims that McCarrick at least had a hand in its drafting.  While this is news to me, it certainly is no surprise.  He is a signer.

Word is afoot that the Vatican will soon be deciding whether or not McCarrick will be laicized.  For the sake of all concerned, including McCarrick himself, I pray that he is laicized and that he take honest looks at the state of his soul, for he hasn't many years left in which to repent and do some reparation.

More On Father Hesburgh's Legacy Of Destruction

On Friday I touched upon the death of the notorious Father Theodore Hesburgh, long-time president of the University of Notre Dame.  The main thing he presided over while in his post was the destruction of Catholic education there and in many other places - not to mention the confusion and likely damnation of the souls of Notre Dame's students.

Regrettably but not too surprisingly, his death has garnered him accolades from the usual suspects.  Chief among them is Cardinal Dolan, giving the usual happy-clappy crap.  I've blogged about his gaffes many times.  One theme of this bloviation is Hesburgh's "priestly touch".  What is this "priestly touch" in Dolan's estimation?  Who knows?  When Dolan defines God as "him, her, whatever you want", I suppose this "priestly touch" can be "whatever you want", even if that "whatever" is the Land O' Lakes Statement.

Thomas Rowan, Former Standard Editor - Requiscat In Pace

From this week's Catholic Standard I learned that Tom Rowan, former editor of the Catholic Standard (he preceded Mark Zimmerman) passed away last Sunday.  He retired from the Standard in 1991 - approximately 23 years ago.  Zimmerman extolled the praises of Rowan.  It is a rare occasion when I agree with Zimmerman, but this is one such occasion.  Perhaps Zimmerman can learn a bit if he rereads his own words.

Zimmerman rightly points out that Rowan had no bones about "fearlessly taking on a cast of villains that included the ACLU, Washington Post, Catholic pro-abortion politicians" and "lambasting rogue theologians".  Indeed I remember some of those columns; he wasn't afraid to speak the truth.  He wasn't afraid to hear it either, as the Standard featured a "letters to the editor" column.  Sadly, that important component of journalistic professionalism seemed to have disappeared when he left the Standard.

Soon after Rowan's retirement, Cardinal Hickey retired and then-Archbishop McCarrick took the helm at the Archdiocese of Washington.  Far from being one to "lambast rogue theologians", McCarrick openly rubbed elbows and struck hands with them, going so far as to sign the Land O' Lakes Statement that openly welcomed heresy on Catholic college campuses in the US.  As far as CINO pro-abortion politicians and others go?  As this post states, I've led numerous pickets of events where Cardinal McCarrick honored Ted Kennedy, John Sweeney, etc.

Then of course there's the disappearance of the Standard's "letters to the editor" column.  It happened at the time Cardinal McCarrick made known his disdain for Canon 915.  I have it on inside information that the decision to halt the column was made in reaction to the hundreds, if not thousands, of angry letters pouring in to denounce the Cardinal's position; mine was one of them.  That cessation of the "letters to the editor" column was a key impetus to the start of this blog.

As I ponder Mr. Rowan's passing, I wonder if he would have stood still for such muzzling of truth at the newspaper to which he devoted 40 years of his life had he not retired.  Whatever, much integrity of the Standard left with him.

Cardinal McCarrick Praises Culture Of Death Icon Father Hesburgh

Father Theodore Hesburgh, president of Notre Dame University for thirty-five years, used his influence and position to severely compromise Catholicism in the United States (maybe the entire western world) and to promote the Culture of Death.  Part and parcel of the Culture of Death is socialism.  This blog and a number of others have documented his rather putrid career.  He has:

• Played a pivotal role in creating and promulgating the heretical Land O' Lakes Statement, that declared de facto rebellion of Catholic colleges against the Magisterium.
• Gave aid and comfort to Alinsky-disciple Msgr Jack Egan (when the latter was evicted from his diocese), allowing Notre Dame to be used as a base to create the Catholic Campaign for Human Development
• Chaired the Rockefeller Foundation, advocates for "population control"
• Go to this link to see how Notre Dame University has done tremendous insult to Christianity.  The 2009 commencement was just the most notorious example.  I've no doubt that this list is not exhaustive.

I think it's fair to say that if it weren't for Fr Hesburgh's influence, Catholic institutes of higher learning would not be polluting the minds of their students.  The CCHD may not have gained the footholds in so many chanceries that it now has.  And yes, Obama may well not be president.

Two days ago in the US Capitol Building, some Catholic (using "Catholic" loosely) politicians hosted a birthday party for Father Hesburgh.  We can guess why there was no screeching and howling from the "separation of church and state" crowd over this - because their champion was being honored!  Among the "usual suspects" in attendance were Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi: two CINO pro-aborts who enjoy their positions of influence due in no small part to Fr Hesburgh.  

One of the other attendees called Father Hesburgh "one of four great Americans", the other three being George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.  For the profuse amount of slobbering, kissing-up and toadying that oozed from such a stupid statement, this attendee made an utter fool of himself.  And who was that who stuck both feet in his mouth?  Cardinal McCarrick!

Today was not at all the first time that Fr Hesburgh and Cardinal McCarrick met.  Thanks to a colleague in the Catholic Media Coalition, I was informed that Cardinal McCarrick is a signer of the Land O' Lakes Statement.  Go to the link to the statement and scroll down.  Sure enough, his name is there.  He stood "lock, stock and barrel" with those who deliberately introduced dissension and heresy into our Catholic schools!

This past Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, Cardinal McCarrick was the main celebrant at the 9:30 Mass at St John Neumann Church in Gaithersburg, MD.  I was in attendance and recorded his homily; I link to it here.  Take note of the homily between 4:50 and 5:10.  He says that "once we leave the teaching of the Apostles...then Islam comes.."  While that statement is true enough, I was aghast when I heard it for I remembered other times when he affirmed Islam.  As you continue to listen him praise (rightly so) the "purity of doctrine", recall how he helped adulterate that same purity with his affirmation of the poisonous Land O' Lakes Statement and his squalid associations with Sister Carol Keehan, Ted Kennedy, John Sweeney, etc.

In his Pentecost homily, Cardinal McCarrick deplored the confusion that his ongoing actions create!   His celebration of Father Hesburgh just a few days ago after that homily is merely the latest in the litany of contradictory messages that he sends.  Holy Mother Church is suffering through want of fidelity of action on the part of her shepherds.  Pray that God would send these to us quickly.

Pope Benedict XVI And True Charity

In Crisis magazine appears an article by Christopher Manion on some contributions that Pope Benedict XVI has made to the future of the Church during these past eight years.  Among them is the restatement of the true principles of Christian charity.

As we all know, the hierarchy of the US Church has been horribly compromised by the lure of federal money to finance its charitable outreaches.  Manion points out that the Land O' Lakes statement was a colossal sell-out on the part of Catholic institutions of higher learning to grab some federal grants.  Some (like me) would in fact argue that Father Hesburgh of Notre Dame deliberately intended to muffle the voice of Catholicism via Land O' Lakes; in many respects he succeeded.  This blog has recited countless times that Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services have made fools of themselves through the debacles in which they engaged.  The only reason why I didn't include the Catholic Campaign for Human Development with the other two is that I believe that the CCHD was created with the very intention of undermining the Magisterium.  And of course I need not rehash how many state Catholic Conferences have muzzled their own voices so that they could win various grants and endowments for their pet progressive causes.

Read Manion's article.  While it will take brave bishops and popes to clean up our charitable outreaches, it will also take the voices and activism of the Catholic laity (that's us!) to bring about these much-needed reforms.

Catholic Charities Awards Dissident Father Hesburgh

Just how many  "Centennial Medals" is Catholic Charities going to bestow (at great waste of money)?  Last September they held a "Centennial Gatherings" in Washington DC.  As I said in August, their personage of honor was none other than Sister Carol Keehan; she received one of those baubles.  She had also been awarded the Pen of Perfidy by the Messiah Most Miserable for her pivotal role in forcing the "Obamanation" of Obamacare down our throats.  There were other unsavory people there who were wined and dined, as that post makes clear.

Well, in Alexandria Virginia they gave another "Centennial Medal" away - this time to Fr. Theodore Hesburgh, President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame.  Father Larry Snyder said of Fr. Hesburgh, "few are of his caliber."  To that we reply, "we wish that were true."

What are some of the not-so-stellar accomplishments of Father Hesburgh?

• He gave Msgr Jack Egan a place and resources with which to originate the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.  Recall that Msgr Egan was a follower of Saul Alinsky
• He was a major driving force behind the creation and promulgation of the destructive Land O'Lakes Statement.  This statement explicitly claimed that Catholic institutions of higher learning owed no allegiance nor submission to the Teaching Majesterium of the Church.

Right there you have two ways in which Father Hesburgh helped to introduce progressive poison into the Church.  No doubt he is a darling to many of the thinly-disguised socialists running amok in high places - probably to Obama himself.  Now given the not-so-secret dependence that Catholic Charities has on federal largesse, it's not all that difficult to see why Catholic Charities is kissing up to Hesburgh.

Perhaps we need to promote a boycott of the in-pew Catholic Charities collection, as well as the CCHD collection.

CCHD - Boycott This In November - ALL Localities!

With all the rightly-placed focus on the elections that will occur in two days, I can understand that the upcoming annual CCHD collection this November has slipped the minds of many.  Alas, it is a reality that now cries for our attention.

In previous posts, I had suggested that we all boycott the CCHD collection in all localities with the exception of the Chicago Archdiocese.  At the time, their local CCHD director had taken significant steps to improve the grant-making process, defunding various progressive organizations and redirecting those monies to pro-life organizations and those actively engaged in the Works of Mercy.  Sadly, but not too surprisingly, that director was released from his position.  There was an internal drive to have him fired. 

This latest development in Chicago, plus the unusual delay in CCHD's release of the names of current grantees, leaves me with the regretable but necessary task of calling for the boycott of the CCHD in all locations, no exceptions.

The Hypocrisy of Father Jenkins - Another Thrilling Chapter

By now most of you have heard the not-so-startling news that in 2007, when anti-war (Catholic Worker) and pro-gay (Soulforce) demonstrators dared to set their big toes on the campus of Notre Dame, they suffered no legal repercussions whatsoever.  They were arrested, processed, released - and that was that!  No trial, no specter of fines or jail sentences hanging over their heads.

Contrast that to the treatment meted out to those who protested on-campus the honors bestowed upon the Messiah Most Miserable in May 2009.  This group is known as the ND 88 (although one of them has since passed away).  They were no more violent than were Soulforce or the Catholic Worker people, yet they are being treated much more harshly.  Why?

Wisdom from Dietrich von Hildebrand

Back in 1973 von Hildebrand called the bishops' dereliction of their duties to be "one of the most horrifying and widespread diseases of the Church today."  Of course he had seen the outright rebellion to Humanae Vitae and the Land O' Lakes rebellion staged by Catholic colleges.  Von Hildebrand then rebukes those same bishops for persecuting those who try to speak out for the True Church.  I've no doubt that Von Hildebrand himself suffered at the hands of more than one derelict bishop.



The latest example of such a strange prelate is perhaps Cardinal George of Chicago.  Recently he bestowed an award on notorious race-baiter and dissident Father Michael Pfleger (see several previous posts on this blog) while trying to silence Tom Roesser, a faithful Catholic writer.
