Catholic Church = Sole Hope Of The World

However, the Church is not living up to her responsibilities - and its shepherds, e.g., bishops, bear the main responsibility.  Many of them have stood by while heresy and corruption and immorality have wrecked havoc amongst their flocks - and some have outright facilitated the mess!  For a small sampling of the savaging that the Church undergoes today - both from within and without - just look at the two preceding posts.  This whole blog, and those listed on the right bar, also expose much that is amiss.

Let's Import Some Polish Bishops!

Catholic bishops in Poland have made clear to their parliament that if they vote for state funding of in-vitro fertilization, that they will be excommunicated.  My hat's off to them!  Thanks be to God for bishops acting like shepherds and not politicians themselves.

A word to the "People for the (pseudo) American Way" types..  No one is forcing anything on those MPs.  They don't have to call themselves Catholic.  However, they don't define Catholicism.  The bishops are the leaders of the Church over there.  The authority of the bishops was laid in place by Jesus Christ Himself, and it is within the purview of the bishops to define what it is to be Catholic.  Should the MPs dissent from that, well, they're not Catholic.  Got that??  Let us hope that they do, if only for the sake of their own immortal souls.

Pelosi Urges Bishops to Talk Politics From the Pulpit

That's right!  "Pope" Pelosi has given her imprimatur to the Catholic bishops to talk up "immigration reform" from the pulpit.  This prompting came during the same conference last week where Michael Steele rubbed elbows with all kinds of pro-abortion politicians (including Pelosi).  Mind you, she expects them to tow the progressive line on this issue; sadly, many of them will comply.

On the other hand, if the clergy can "talk politics" from the pulpit, with the benevolent permission of Her Nibs, they now have no excuse whatsoever not to preach the truth about abortion, the perversion of homosexuality, etc.  They also now have no excuse to disobey Canon 915.

Yoo-hoo, Madame Speaker!  After your urgings last week, please don't raise that phony "separation of church and state" canard when clergy do preach the inherent evil of abortion.  Else, you'll only give the watching world yet another example of left-wing hypocrisy, ignorance and arrogance!

Some Bishops Are Waking Up!

As I check the American Papist blog (see right side-bar), it appears that some of the bishops are indeed taking off those rose-colored glasses.  The bishops of northern Colorado have published a warning about the bill.  They even rebuked the "catholyc hell association" (see my post below this).

Here we read of three other bishops, including the head of the USCCB pro-life, opposing the Obama hell bill.

Are there other bishops out there who are speaking against this monstrosity that looms on our horizon?  There are at least 280 more of them from whom the nation needs to hear.  I'm sure that I've either overlooked them or haven't received word.  Please advise via comments, with links to their statements.  Thank you.

Obamacare and the Principle of Subsidiarity

The principle of subsidiarity, described in Pope Pius XI's Quadragesimo Anno and Pope John Paul II's Centesimus Annus certainly seems to be "An Inconvenient Truth" (to borrow Al Gore's term) a goodly percentage of the United States bishops. It certainly seems to be so for the USCCB and for many of the state Catholic conferences. It almost seems that there isn't a governmental handout after which they won't slobber and pant. It even seems that Renato Cardinal Martino, a former Vatican official known for his rabid liberalism, has lavished praise upon Obamacare, inherent and fatal flaws nothwithstanding.

It is therefore most refresing to see that some US bishops realize the peril that Obamacare poses to true Catholic social teaching, regardless of the presence or absence of abortion and euthanasia. Let us be clear; the specter of taxpayer-funded abortion and euthanasia is horrible beyond description. However, the elimination of these murderous provisions from the bill will not render the bill any more acceptable to the true Catholic. The presence of socialized medicine foists its own deadly and yes, sinful poisons upon civilization. Please read and study the linked articles closely.
