Thanksgiving Day

Today, the fourth Thursday in November, is Thanksgiving Day.  What does that mean, this word "thanksgiving"?  To whom does one give thanks?  The very word "thanksgiving" implies the existence of the object of gratitude.  I mean "object" in the grammatical sense, of course.  In a sentence with a transitive verb, one must have the transitive verb that describes a specific action, the subject (entity performing the action in question) and the object (entity receiving the action in question).  Without that object, the very term "thanksgiving" is nonsensical.  That is why atheists find themselves in a quandary on this day, as they do on Christmas.  The very existence of those two holidays reveals the lies behind their erroneous beliefs.

Now before I go on, I issue this advisory to members of these organizations and other similarly deluded folks:
  • People for the American Way
  • Americans United for Separation of Church and State
  • Freedom from Religion Foundation
  • American Humanist Association
If you suffer from periodic fits of rage, frequent hissy-snits, cognitive dissonance or other maladies typical of atheists and progressives, I suggest you read no further - at least not without having taken blood pressure medication.  If you do read, please have smelling salts handy.

I publish below the Thanksgiving Proclamation issued in 1789 by President George Washington:

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3rd day of October, A.D. 1789.

The Entire Dolan Interview On Fox News

To answer a commenter's question about the context of Archbishop Dolan's "whatever" remarks about God, here is the entire interview from Fox News.  http://video.foxnews.com/v/4433547/is-superman-catholic.  I think it's clear that the Vortex did not take anything out of context.  That segment seems short because it was short.  I will say this though, as the Archbishop spoke about parochial schools, he made some very pertinent points about them being under local control and being subject to parental accountability - of course they're now closing right and left around the DC area.  He made a point of stating that the statistics show the superior results of parochial schools not only to public schools, but these so-called "charter schools".  In the DC area, many parish schools have been turned over to DC and are now charter schools.  In other words, education in DC is going downhill very quickly.

I wouldn't classify Fox News with the rest of mainstream media.  By the latter I mean ABC, NBC, CBS who seem to tow the progressive party line.  Fox News does not, to the undisguised chagrin of the Messiah Most Miserable.

President Reagan's Thanksgiving Address In 1985

As you listen to a real President speak, listen closely to what he lauds about this country:
1) Freedom to worship God as we deem best
2) Freedom to speak our minds
3) Unfettered and vigorous press
4) Freedom to make government abide by the limits we deem just
5) Freedom to travel throughout the land

Understand that everyone of these liberties that were once taken for granted are under concerted, deliberate attack by the progressive eltes, led by the Messiah Most Miserable himself.

And yes, President Reagan explicitly thanks God.  Yesterday must have been such a nightmare for the ACLU.
