SB 212, the so-called "Fairness for All Marylanders Act of 2014" is signed and will go into effect on October 1, 2014 - unless we can stop it.  Please read the text.

Bloomberg Financing Gay Marriage Push In Maryland

The gay lifestyle proponents are tapping into some big cash in their push to play "pretend" with marriage.  We were successful in petitioning the measure to ballot.  It is Question 6 - we urge a vote "against".

O'Malley put out a cash call.  New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is kicking in $250,000 towards promotion of a sinful lifestyle.  I take this occasion to suggest donations to Maryland Marriage Alliance.

MD Elections - Ballot Question 4

Besides the all-important presidential election, there are a number of crucial matters that are specific to the State of Maryland.  Among these are four "general referendum" questions.  I will deal with these in the order in which they'll appear on our ballot.  This post will deal with Question 4 - the DREAM Act.

As you know (even if you may not accept it), there are a number of matters in this election that deal with intrinsic morality (abortion, homosexual relations, etc).  A Catholic who takes his/her faith seriously, indeed the salvation of his/her soul, will never deviate from the Church's teachings on these matters.  There are other issues that are within the realm of prudential judgment.  Economic issues are an example.  While we adhere to Christ's teaching to care for the poor, good people can and often do disagree on the proper means to do so.  It is even permissible to have such disagreements with Church structures on these matters.

Question 4 is one such matter where intrinsic morality is not in question.  Many good Catholics believe that the DREAM Act is seriously, even fatally flawed.  I myself hold that opinion.  Indeed, I believe this is one example of how the progressive elements in Church bureaucracies can ensnare themselves in imprudent alliances and actions.

Maryland Ballot Language On DREAM Act

"Undocumented immigrants"!  If I'm ever caught driving without my driver's license, can I just tell the nice police officer that I'm merely an "undocumented driver"?  Fat chance!  So why the double-standard here?

Public Institutions of Higher Education - Tuition Rates (Ch. 191 of the 2011 Legislative Session)

Establishes that individuals, including undocumented immigrants, are eligible to pay in-state tuition rates at community colleges in Maryland, provided the student meets certain conditions relating to attendance and graduation from a Maryland high school, filing of income taxes, intent to apply for permanent residency, and registration with the selective service system (if required); makes such students eligible to pay in-state tuition rates at a four-year public college or university if the student has first completed 60 credit hours or graduated from a community college in Maryland; provides that students qualifying for in-state tuition rates by this method will not be counted as in-state students for purposes of counting undergraduate enrollment; and extends the time in which honorably discharged veterans may qualify for in-state tuition rates.

Maryland "Gay Marriage" To Go To Ballot

This past March I posted that we would need at least 57,000 signatures to put on the November ballot the "gay marriage" bill signed into law by Governor O'Malley.  Actually, the exact number was 55,736.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of many volunteers and the leadership of the Maryland Marriage Alliance, the total number of signatures submitted was 122,481.  The Maryland Board of Elections has 20 days to review the signatures.  No one seriously doubts that there is more than a sufficient number to ensure that this measure is put on the ballot so that all Marylanders can vote on it.

This electoral contest will draw nationwide attention.  Both sides will pour in much money.  Of course, the marriage-wrecking contingent will have "lame-brain" media shilling for it.  That means, of course, that our work is far from over.  But we've made progress.

Referendum Effort Is On To Allow Marylanders To Vote On The Gay Marriage Bill

As most Marylanders know, Governor Martin O'Malley recently signed into law a measure that makes Maryland a state that recognizes "gay marriage".  Of course we realize that it means the majority of those occupying high places in Annapolis don't recognize what real marriage is, but we'll revisit that when the 2014 elections draw near.

For now we need to collect at least 57,000 signatures from Maryland voters so that the measure can be put on the ballot.  The official site is http://www.marylandmarriagealliance.com/  From there you can create your personal petition (as well as for your family).  Consider volunteering to collect signatures (the requirements for valid signatures are exacting, so training will be required).
