Catholics And Politics

"Catholycs" for Equality are chortling about their belief that a "majority of Catholics in Maryland stand by Governor O'Malley".  They opine in the context of O'Malley's intention to push for "gay marriage" in Maryland.  I'm not going to banter as to whether or not a "majority" of MD Catholics have swallowed the politically-correct koolaid of "gay marriage".  When one speaks of "Catholics", one can mean those who were baptized Catholic as children and that's it, those who attend Mass only on Easter and Christmas, and even those who call themselves "recovered Catholics".  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the aforegoing sub-groupings of Catholics probably would support "gay marriage" (assuming that they care one way or the other about the matter).  However, morality is never defined by consensus, but only by God's laws.

The article goes on to criticize Archbishop O'Brien for a "bad use of his time" in defending traditional marriage.  That's interesting.  If these people don't recognize a bad definition of marriage, who are they to determine whether or not the Archbishop is using his time badly?  As for the archbishop being "out of line", I suggest it is the gay activists who are "out of line" for their attempt to mangle the meaning of true marriage to suit their warped purposes.

While I certainly congratulate Archbishop O'Brien for speaking out, I do suggest that this article may indicate the results of years of neglect in teaching authentic morality and placing that before other matters, such as so-called "social justice" which is nothing more than wimpy attempts to placate progressives.  Archbishop O'Brien and Cardinal Wuerl MUST start obeying Canon 915 and deny Holy Communion to Governor O'Malley, Barbara Mikulski and all the other politicians who dare to call themselves Catholic while using their high positions to tear down authentic morality.

Governor O'Malley Set To Advocate Gay Marriage In Maryland

Taking a cue from fellow CINO Governor Cuomo in New York, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley made plain his intentions to escalate his push for so-called gay "marriage" in Maryland.  He reportedly will have "other announcements in upcoming months".

Now I understand that Archbishop O'Brien of Baltimore has warned O'Malley that the Church will oppose his efforts.  Good for him.  The archbishop, in regard for the public sin about to be foisted upon Maryland citizenry and for O'Malley's soul (the archbishop is O'Malley's bishop), is obliged to obey Canon 915 in regard to O'Malley and not allow him to be admitted to Holy Communion until he publically repent and rescind all support of gay marriage and legalized abortion.  The same would go for any other Catholic in the Maryland legislature who would dare to support it (Mike Miller comes immediately to mind).

DREAM Act?  Forget about it, Your Excellency!  Don't try to be palsy-walsy with O'Malley on this one, as such action would only undermine your credibility in fighting "gay marriage" in Maryland.

Baltimore Priests on New Ways Ministry Board

Thanks to the person who commented on the post regarding the bishops' rebuke of Gansler.  I would encourage one and all to examine the New Ways board.  In all fairness to Archbishop O'Brien, I do believe he may well be unaware of the doings of Fathers Muth and Thomas.

Look at the rest of that board.  Take Mrs Byers, for example.  Three of her seven children are gay.  That is to say that they are most likely engaging in practices that will endanger their immortal souls.  Well, golly-gee-whiz!  I thought a parent had a duty to facilitate their childrens' entrances into heaven, not the other place!  Will she hand them "rainbow fishpins" on the way down?

Father Thomas is the board chair.  Ostensibly he's "ministered" to gays and lesbians since 1974.  As in Mrs. Byer's case, I must ask to where is he leading those to whom he "ministers"?  If he is affirming their "gay identities", then he is failing them utterly.

I could go on and on, but time forbids me.  I do urge one and all to contact Archbishop O'Brien to advise him of this situation, which I suspect existed before he came to Baltimore.

Maryland Bishops Rebuke Gansler and His Overreaching Ways

The bishops who oversee Maryland's three diocese have released a press statement rebuking Maryland Attonrney General Douglas Ganssler.  Recall from yesterday's post that Gansler ordered state agencies to recognize same-sex marriages that were recognized in other states.  The bishops correctly take Gansler to task for:

1. His usurpation of the role of the legislature by an imperious, de facto directive to order state agencies to ignore standing Maryland law
2. His abject failure to recognize the true nature of marriage as being between a man and a woman, and marriage's foundational role in human society

The press statement ends with an exhortation to Maryland lawmakers to uphold the true nature of marriage in Maryland law.  It will be up to us as citizens to watch them and to ensure that will happen.  Moreover, as the 2010 elections draw near, it will be up to us to work to elect men and women who will respect natural law.
