Nelson Mandela Has Died - What Is Our Proper Response?

Former South African President Nelson Mandela passed away today.  Already various leaders and pundits wax lyrical about his "inspiration and leadership".  This includes some notable conservatives, I regret to say.  I can understand all the liberal/progressive mouthpieces taking this ball and running with it.  In fact, I can fairly well predict that the official Archdiocese of Washington paper, the Catholic Standard, will quite likely devote the bulk of its next issue to "celebrating his life".  They will, of course, be omitting some teensy details of what really is a very chequered career.

Prior to 1996, South Africa had some of the tightest laws regarding abortion on its books.  That ended in December 1996 when Mandela signed a new law, the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Bill, that gave girls of any age sole discretion about murdering the babies in their wombs.  The South African bishops have shown a regrettable propensity to turning a blind eye to a baby-murder-enabling politician at their nation's helm.  John Smeaton, head of England's Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, had some pointed words to say about this and other immoral stances by the late Mandela.  And of course, read what one gay media outlet has to say about the man whom they dub "father of the rainbow nation".

I write this to provide some moral perspective.  Whatever else he may have done to promote some political equality among adults, his actions that imperiled countless South African babies more than tower over the good he did.  In enshrining gay marriage into the South African constitution, he helped erode the morality of millions - and perhaps jeopardized their immortal souls.

No doubt we should pray for his eternal repose, that God have mercy, for the sins Mandela facilitated are those "that cry out to God for vengeance".  Pray for mercy upon him, but please don't jump on the bandwagon to lionize him.  I lament that even some Christian conservatives are doing precisely that.  Please don't forget the babies he helped kill; too many forget the babies as it is.

EU "Court" On Ireland's Abortion Laws

If ever there was an overwhelming argument against "one-world government" and the "new order", we saw it in spades this week.  We read in LifeSiteNews of the European Court's "ruling" on the case of a woman who sought an abortion in Ireland.  While it ruled that the woman's right to "privacy" was violated, it did say that it found that there is "no human right to abortion".  Well, they got that last part right, at least.  There is no human right to murder tiny human children.  I suppose these days we really need a court decision to tell us that?

However, because of the "privacy" matter, we see that national sovereignty in general is being imperiled.  The infrastructure is starting to be laid that would allow a tyrant to exercise significant, if not total, control over world affairs.  We have a microcosm of that in the United States.  Misguided people, during the Bush administration, charged ahead with the Homeland Security Act and the "faith-based partnership" stuff.  While their motives may have been honorable, they acted in reckless disregard of the Constitution and the protections afforded by the same.  Now the Messiah Most Miserable is at the helm, and many of these people are shocked - just shocked! - to see the havoc being raised with airport molestations, etc.  Are we learning our lessons yet, or do more outrages have to occur?

Maryland - A Veritable Abortion Bonanza

According to this Cecilwhig report, my home state of Maryland probably one of the most deadly places in which an unborn child can find him/herself.  I've known for some time that the annual abortion number is 38,000 baby murders per year.

Some other key facts about abortion in Maryland are:
  • Minors seeking abortions in Maryland need notify only one parent.  Note that they must only "notify" the parent, not seek his/her consent.  However, even that can be waived if the doctor believes the minor is capable of giving informed consent.  Of course the doctor has a financial interest in performing the abortion.  How convenient for the abortionist!
  • Maryland is one of three states that don't require abortionists to report their procedures.
  • According to Vicki Saporta, president of the National Abortion Federation, "The state respects a woman's right to make her own decisions about an unwanted pregnancy while providing good access to safe practices."  Consider the source and understand what that truly says about Maryland.
Those of us who've been in the pro-life battle for a while remember the struggle in 1992 against Maryland SB 162, which struck down any vestige of protection for the unborn child in Maryland.  Should Roe v Wade ever be overturned, all that would do would be to remand the abortion battles back to the states.  Some misguded libertarians believe that the state is the proper place for such matters.  In so promulgating this nonsense, they elevate their rarified concept of the US Constitution above its intent, "to preserve the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity."  I think our Founding Fathers would be horrified to see some citizens opining that if some wanted liberalized abortion laws in their states (that is, license to murder) then that would be constitutionally permissible.  We need a Human Life Amendment (discussed in a previous post) to ensure that all babies are protected in the entire United States, regardless of the caprices of the already-born citizens of some states.
