From The Et Tu Brute Department: Mark Shriver To Give Commencement Address At Mount St Mary's - Act Now To Stop This

In his book, Goodbye Good Men, Michael Rose extolled the seminary at the Mount as being one of the few decent ones that weren't overrun by gay pervert infestation.  Of course he wasn't speaking about the Mount at large, so maybe the seminary has been spared from participating in the immorality that must have underpinned this regrettable invitation.  Shriver will speak Saturday May 11 and receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters.  The abortion he advocates is anything but "humane".

As I look at the Board of Trustees, I see that Msgr John Enzler, of Catholic Charities notoriety, is on the board.  I perceive his paw-prints all over this invitation.

The Cardinal Newman Society has more information.  I've also posted on Shriver and the ridiculous pandering he's received from Churches and other Catholic organizations.  You'll also see in that anthology that faithful Catholics (including Yours Truly) have picketed him during some of those occasions.

Timothy Trainor, president of the university, can be contacted here.  Again, looking at the Board of Trustees, we see the name of Archbishop Lori on there.  Of course he'd be there, since the Mount is located within the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  It is worth noting that he attended seminary at the Mount.  He should also be contacted here.

We must ask them to withdraw the invitation to this pro-abortion person.  Else, they are flagrantly violating the directives set for in the USCCB's "Catholics In Political Life".  Will we picket this commencement?  The answer to that question is very much up to the Mount.

Also, please lodge your protests on the Mount's social media sites: Facebook and Twitter.

Shall We Resist At Georgetown?

Last month the Cardinal Newman Society announced the scandal of Georgetown University's plan to honor Cecile Richards this coming April.  At the time details weren't known.  Now (thanks to the Cardinal Newman Society) we know that the travesty will occur on April 20th (exactly two weeks from today) at 2:00 pm at the Lohrfink Auditorium.  This lecture is closed to all but GU students and security will be tight.

We all know that Richards, as president of the largest chain of baby-killing mills, directs the murders of thousands (if not millions) of helpless children.  The ruthlessness of Planned Parenthood is becoming more and more evident, as typified in the ransacking of the home of David Daleiden in California.  This travesty against justice was orchestrated by California Attorney General Kamala Harris, who seems to be in Planned Parenthood's back pocket.

Cecile Richards has no business being honored on a Catholic campus, even if the leaders of the school have long scorned their own Catholic heritage.

On Monday we heard from Bishop Gracida that it's way past time that we laity protested loudly.  We should do so on April 20th.  Who, especially those in the MD/DC/VA area, will be there to stand up to this insult of Our Lord being committed on Catholic grounds?  Again, I'll post as soon as details of a protest are clarified.

Georgetown University To Host Cecile Richards In April

Georgetown University, a DC-based Jesuit university infamous for rejection and even hatred of its Catholic heritage and even of God Himself, will again play the whore this coming April.  The Lecture Fund at Georgetown will host Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

The Cardinal Newman Society has broken the news today.  The Lecture Fund has not yet disclosed an exact date and time or the topic of discussion.  Perhaps they recall when Kathleen Sebelius gave a commencement address there nearly four years ago, many of us were down there to raise loud protest.

Perhaps some are shocked, wondering how a Catholic institution could host the president of this nation's largest chain of baby-murderers, especially in light of the videos put forth by the Center for Medical Progress.  I'm not shocked; I've written about them many, many times.  I could list some of their offenses here, but even that list would be too long.

I will advise when I learn further details.

What Is Going On At The Mount?

I am referring to Mount St Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD.  It is a Catholic university, with ties to Mother Seton.  Several of the Seton family are buried next to the grotto attached to the Mount.  While the school itself has had an unfortunate reputation as a "drinking school", its seminary has been touted as being one of the most orthodox in the country.  In his book "Goodbye Good Men", Jimmy Akin (correction: author is Michael Rose) sang its praises.  I've known many faithful priests; more often than not, they have graduated from the Mount.

Over the past few days, controversy at the Mount has been made public.  It seems to revolve around its president, Simon Newman.  He apparently made a crude remark about some students whose dismissal he was planning to pursue, based purely on surveys that projected failure for the students, calling them "cuddly bunnies" who should have a "glock to their heads".  When an independent student newspaper took umbrage with that, he fired some faculty who was an advisor to the paper, along with other faculty.  After massive uproar over those dismissals, Newman reinstated them.

Newman also took potshots at the school's Catholic identity, saying there were "too many bleeding crucifixes" in an employee's office and referring to some students as "Catholic jihadis".  The Mount seems to have two web pages; one that is devoid of any reference to the Catholic faith and another that still acknowledges its heritage.  Who/what are they trying to attract with the first?  Newman also is alleged to have said "Catholic doesn't sell".  If true, that last quip may be more telling than one might think.

I googled Simon Newman to see what he might have brought to the school.  One might think that a candidate for Catholic school administrators might be experience in a Catholic institution and even perhaps some theology degrees. Nope!  None of that!  He was, however, a past president of Cornerstone Management Group and Senior Advisor at JP Capital Partners.  His education includes an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.  That's nice, I suppose, but how does all that equip him to lead a Catholic institution that has as its mission to educate its students in the Faith?  Of course it doesn't.  While Newman might be qualified to govern a business enterprise, there's no indication of credentials for suitability in leading a Catholic apostolate.  That leads to this question: What on earth was the Board of Directors of the Mount thinking when they hired this man?  What were their priorities?  It's not too difficult to imagine that Newman must have connections to substantial money.  Is it possible that the lure of easy money might have colored the board's perception of Newman?  While much ire is understandably directed at Newman, the board of directors must also come under serious scrutiny, as evidenced by this ongoing debacle.

While I've been in the process of writing this post, the Cardinal Newman Society has released its statement, and it links to an article detailing the non-binding resolution of the Mount faculty in urging Newman to resign.  From what I gather, I can only hope and pray that Newman does the decent thing and resign.  Then the Board of Directors must seriously examine their own priorities before they invite another disaster upon the Mount.

An Exorcism For Georgetown?

Arguably that wouldn't be a bad idea.  However, another sort of remedy is in the works.  William Peter Blatty, author of "The Exorcist" and 1950 alum of Georgetown, is filing canonical suit under the auspices of The Father King Society.  They are joining forces with the Cardinal Newman Society in this venture.

In Blatty's words, the basis of the suit is Georgetown's "failure for more than two decades to comply with the requirements of Ex corde Ecclesiae".  Apparently in 1991, canonical law proceedings were enough to make then Dean of Student Affairs Fr DeGoia rescind support and funding for a pro-abortion advocacy group on campus.

Blatty also urges all alumni to suspend any donations to Georgetown.  I echo that call.

Kathleen Sebelius To Give Georgetown Commencement Address

Put her name next to the little magnifying glass at the top left and see how many times I reported on her many atrocities.  The latest one, of course, is the HHS mandate that crams down the throats of all decent people the onus of paying for contraceptives and abortifacients in health-coverage plans.  She has been rightly chided by bishops and laity alike.

Therefore I can only assume that Georgetown University is deliberately thumbing its nose at the Magisterium by extending an invitation to her to speak at the commencement of one of Georgetown's schools on Friday May 18th.  The disgrace will occur at 11:00am at the Leavey Center Ballroom.

The Cardinal Newman Society has a link by which you may send a petition to protest this inappropriate invitation.  You may sign it if you wish - or contact the Georgetown administration yourselves to protest.

Will we have to picket???

Catholic Blogs Prove Their Mettle!

From the Cardinal Newman Society we receive the happy news that Villanova University, a Catholic institution just outside of Philadelphia has rescinded its invitation to a militant gay-rights advocate to be an "artist in residence".  Read the report on the CNS website - and read how this "artist" whines about the role of Catholic blogs in waking up local Catholics to the menace about to take residence there.

In that matter I wasn't involved, but I do take this occasion to congratulate my blogging colleagues for a job well-done!

KKT At Catholic University Last Week

I just learned this today from the Cardinal Newman Society.  Last week the "katholyc" pro-abortion Kathleen Kennedy Townsend gave an address at Catholic University, sponsored by the local College Democrats chapter.

Naturally she agitated for women's ordination and for popular selection of bishops and the pope.  If you didn't think her bloviations could become more nonsensical, well, you're in for a treat!  Here are some of the cow-pies that we "missed" when she became the first Democrat in decades to lose a MD gubernatorial election.
  • She bemoaned the fact that it's difficult for her, as a Catholic Democrat, to be able to speak at Catholic institutions - real ones, that is.  Well, no KKT, that's not it at all!  It's because you forfeited all moral credibility by supporting baby-murder
  • Speaking of that topic, she tried to dance around it by saying that when Dems are elected, the rates of abortion go down!  (Wait!  There's more!)  "And why is that?", she opines.  Why, "it's because of the safety net ensured by the Democrats' higher taxes!"  What sane person can make up this crap??  At least she admits that higher taxes come from the progressives!
  • When asked why Catholics tend to be conservative, she replied that as people become wealthier, they become conservative.  Nonsense!  Her own family is one of considerable means - yet they are among the most flamboyant of liberals.  Another little fact, if you don't mind!  If by "conservative" you mean for a smaller government, it's because we who take our faith seriously understand the inherent tyranny of government grown huge and arrogant and yes, atheistic.
The Cardinal Newman Society did challenge the CUA administration regarding Townsend's appearance on campus.  The administration did some hand-washing, which ended with this sentence: "To more fully develop their moral character and critical thinking skills, our students need to hear and discuss  diverse views, even some with which they disagree."  Well, things aren't quite that simplistic.  To develop their moral and intellectual skills, they need to be taught the unambiguous truths of their Faith.   When folks like Townsend come spouting off "women's ordination" nonsense, they need to understand that such is heresy, not merely a "diverse view".  Now my question is how does the CUA plan to provide antidote for the poison that Townsend was allowed to spew?

More Shame From Notre Shame

Whew!  It's a good thing that Jenkins et al got rid of their ND88 boondoggle because they managed to put their feet in it again as this National Catholic Register article details.  They recently appointed to their Board of Trustees one Roxanne Martino, a ND alumna, a reputedly accomplished businesswoman and - oh, yes! - a big-time contributer to Emily's List.  Most people who are half awake understand Emily's List to be a cabal dedicated to the election of pro-abortion Democrat women to public office.  If you're just waking up, never fear - just look at the Emily List mission statement on their webpage; they have no bones about proclaiming their "purpose", such as it is.

When the news broke and went viral, the ND officials - including Fr Jenkins - tried to tell us that Martino, who is supposed to be a smart business person, had no idea that she contributed over $25k to an outfit whose sole, plainly-stated mission, is to get pro-abortion women elected.  But it's just a teensy-weensy little goof, right?   So much for "damage control"!

I'm now waiting for Georgetown University to pull off some stupendous stupidity.  Has anyone else noticed that Georgetown and Notre Dame seem to alternate with each other in providing grandeose insult to the Faith?  It's almost like a contest between the two!

The Guardians of the Grotto and the Cardinal Newman Society both helped to break this news.  Below is the Vortex take on the matter.  Click here if you cannot see embedded video.

Georgetown University Never Fails - To Disappoint And Scandalize

Thanks to the Cardinal Newman Society for alerting us to this double-header by DC's Georgetown University.

First we have "gender-blind housing".  No doubt you have guessed what that is all about.  The Hoya announced that university officials would be willing to discuss this "gender-blind housing" that would “not take into account gender when assigning housing to students.”  Ostensibly the reason given is to be "accepting" of LGBTQ students.  However, we know what else would be happening.  Boys and girls, can we say "shack-up and fornication with the blessings of the university"?  We're essentially talking about university officials not only condoning but actually facilitating mortal sin amongst its students.

Second, we hear that Catholics for Equality is all atwitter about the USCCB elections.  They are worried - just worried sick! - that the elections of Archbishops Dolan and Kurtz "signals increased Vatican influence in US politics."  Huh??  How do they draw that conclusion?   To tip their hands a little more, they let loose with  this nonsense: "this election broadens the gap between the people of the Catholic Church in America and the increasingly uncharitable demands of the Pope in Rome."  Read the CFE's press release - it's a hoot.  They wax indignant about "the Catholic hierarchy’s national campaign to deny marriage and family rights to gay and lesbian citizens."  Imagine that!  Catholic bishops defending and promulgating Catholic dogma and morals?  What is the world coming to?  Next they'll be telling dissidents like Catholics for Equality to repent and go to Confession or be excommunicated!  The horror!

Saint Ignatius of Loyala, please pray for your wayward sons who are leading many souls to their eternal damnation.  Pray for their repentance, lest they also careen towards their own eternal doom.

Georgetown Personnel Lead New Pro-Gay Gaggle

Father Joseph Palacios, a sociology professor at Georgetown University in Washington DC is a founding board member of a new dissident group called "Catholics for Equality".  A look at the list of board members is quite revealing.  Many of them have ties to the Human Rights Campaign (Fr Palacios is on that board, too) and other gay-rights groups.  According to this Metro Weekly article that comments about www.churchouting.org (its name is rather self-explanatory) run by anther CFE board member Phil Attey, Father Palacios is "an openly gay priest".

A review of this website reveals their intentions to proseletize among college students.  By the way, look at the right side bar, where one gets to "report anti-equality activity" at your parish.  To all faithful Catholics and especially you priests, let's all strive to get "reported"!

Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society, wrote a letter to Georgetown president John DiGioia asking him to assure that no employees of Georgetown University will participate in this organization.  Please read Reilly's article on this matter.  I might question why Father Palacios is retained by Georgetown at all, if the Metro Weekly article is correct.
