Pro-Abort Mark Shriver Named As President Of DC Area Catholic School

Mark Shriver, the pro-abortion ex-politician, has been named as President of Don Bosco Christo Rey School in Takoma Park, MD.  This appointment was announced and presumably made by both the Archdiocese of Washington and the eastern province of the Salesians.  The Catholic Substandard article to which I linked reports that Cardinal Gregory slobbered his praises of Shriver, saying among other things that Shriver is "dedicated to serving...children".  Well, yes, provided that they have escaped the clutches of abortion.  Most glaring for its omission is any mention whatsoever for Shriver's facilitation of abortion while in the MD House of Delegates and the fact that he ran for US Congress on a solid pro-abortion ticket.

One wonders just what kind of education those poor students will get.  Will they be allowed to have a pro-life club that will actually be involved in the struggle to save babies from being murdered in their mothers' wombs?  Will they discuss politics through the prism of "social justice warriors"?  And what might happen, should those students stumble across the history of Shriver's pro-abortion activities?  By no means will true Catholic education flourish at that school with a pro-abort at the helm.  Cardinal Gregory knows that.  We can only presume that he doesn't care.  After all, Shriver is a dyed-in-the-wool progressive.  Whether he knows it or not, Shriver will serve to further the Great Reset and the New World Order.  He is in an excellent position to corrupt many Catholic young people to that demented way of thinking.

But wait!  The Catholic Substandard had more enthusiastic slobbering to do all over Shriver.  The latter wrote a book, you  see, called "10 Hidden Heroes".  The editor of the Standard, Mark Zimmerman, penned the book review himself.  Except for his own parents, Shriver seems rather coy about who these "heroes" are.  The website isn't much help, either.  However, are some of these truly stalwart people considered heroes in this book?

  • The faithful Catholics who kneel to receive Holy Communion on the tongue while others (including the minister!) mock them?
  • The parents standing up at school board meetings to protest critical race theory in the schools, sexually explicit reading materials being thrust on their children, the insipid mask mandates
  • The good people who may lose their livelihoods because they won't be de facto cannibals in accepting the abortion-tainted vaccines
  • The ever-growing number of parents homeschooling their children rather than turning them over to godless schools (some ostensibly Catholic)
  • The Catholics who drive many miles each Sunday to attend a Traditional Latin Mass rather than the clown Mass at their own parishes
  • The pro-life people who spend hours in front of abortion mills praying in reparation for the baby-slaughter and trying to extend true help to desparate mothers?
Sadly, I think we know the answer to that.  I strongly suspect the "heroes" in this book will all tow a politically correct line or not be considered as "heroes".

Anyway, if the Catholic Sub-standard were at all concerned with the mission of the Church, that is, to save souls, it would evince some concern for Shriver's soul and those belonging to the students that stand to be scandalized by the placing of a pro-abort in authority over Catholic students.  The Archdiocese of Washington has yet another reason for shame.

Faithful Catholics, Stop Sitting On Your Hands

The video below was posted by Randall Terry, reporting on his recent confrontations with rabidly pro-abortion CINO Joe Biden.  As most know, Biden is one of quite a few pro-abortion Democrats (a redundancy) running for President.  In his video, Terry states the reasons for his protest and encourages others to do the same.

As I watched this, I couldn't help but recall our action against Mark Shriver at Mount St Mary's last month.  Of all the faithful Catholic laity that I know exist in Maryland, only nine of us showed up - me and eight young men from the American Society of Tradition, Family and Property.  Now I realize that quite a few faithful Catholics were in front of abortuaries as they usually are on Saturday mornings.  I speak not to them for they are in fact speaking against evil in other venues.  They too find their numbers to be small.

I tried to drum up support for the Mount effort but at best the responses were "well, maybe".  Those "well maybes" turned into no-shows.  Ladies and gentlemen, please understand that while prayer is necessary and crucial, it is NOT sufficient.  In fact, I daresay that if one prays for the culture of life but yet refuses to step out of his/her comfort zone to engage in street activism, political action or just speaking publicly, then his/her prayers aren't worth the spit produced in the utterances, for they value their comfort over God's will.  It is they who need repentance as much as abortion supporters.  If you are going to repent, don't just go to confession (although that's advisable) but get out of your comfort zones and do something.  The next 40 Days campaign would be an excellent start.  Now the video.

Mark Shriver And The Mount - Rebuked Via Picket

On the morning of May 11, I joined eight young men from a PA chapter of the TFP Student Action as we stood outside the Knott Arena at the Mount.  We were there to protest their honoring of pro-abortion Mark Shriver in disobedience to the USCCB statement "Catholics in Political Life".

First, let me draw your attention to the picture at the right.  This is taken from our cordoned-off location across a driveway.  The red "x" marks the location where we were originally supposed to be.  We were told by the campus police officer who guided us to the location that the officials were "afraid we might slip and fall because the previous evening's rain had dampened the grass".  Well, bless their hearts!  Wasn't that just so, so ... thoughtful of them?  That yarn was so hokey that the police officer seemed embarrassed to say it.  In the video below, I made a point to show the difference from the original location to the place where we eventually were situated.

Also observe that woman leaning against the sign.  She was no doubt assigned to babysit us as she was there the whole time we were there.  The Mount officials really must have been afraid that we might (gasp!) talk with some of the people.  Such a horrifying prospect that must have been to them!

While our opportunities for conversation were somewhat curtailed, we still made our point.  The gentlemen from TFP have done similar protests.  One of their trademarks are bagpipes.  It's rather difficult not to notice bagpipes.  Oh yes, some attendees just breezed on by us, but they knew we were there, and these signs were quite prominent.

We did have some opportunity for conversation.  In the video you'll see one irate father who just didn't want to acknowledge that a pro-abort would be spouting "sweet nothings" into all their ears.  I suppose it didn't dawn on him (and many others) that quite a few who should have been graduating college that day never got the opportunity to even draw the breath of life, and that baby-murder was occurring in many Maryland localities as we were speaking, thanks in part to Shriver's abortion promotion.

However, a mother came up later to thank us for being there.  She disapproved of Shriver and affirmed our suspicions that the decision to invite Shriver caused much tension and division in the Mount community - as well it should have.

Let us pray that the leadership of Mount St Mary's never again is derelict in their responsibilities to provide Catholic example to their students and that they remember that they are Catholic first and foremost.

Calling All MD And PA Catholics To Stand For Truth This Saturday!

Several weeks ago I posted of the abominable decision of Mount St Mary's to ask pro-abortion and pro-sodomite Mark Shriver to give the commencement address at the Mount's graduation ceremony on May 11.  Despite the protests of many faithful Catholics, they are hell-bent (literally!) on kissing up to Shriver.  They seem not to care one whit that they are in flagrant disobedience to "Catholics In Political Life".

So now we are left with no choice but to picket.  We've got to preach truth to the people attending for Shriver, by his presence, will be posing a scandal to every person there.  We must provide the antidote and yes, we must speak a word of rebuke to those who dared to hold up for honor someone whose public stances are gravely immoral.

This picket effort is largely spearheaded by TFP Student Action.  They have done quite a few of these demonstrations; I've demonstrated along side of them twice at Georgetown University over the years.  Their personnel have secured a location for us to picket there, quite close to the entrance of the hall where the commencement will occur.

Please plan to arrive at 8:45 at the Campus Public Safety Office.  It is on the west side of Rte 15.  Turn from Rte 15 west onto Anadale Road then an immediate right onto Old Emittsburg Road.  The office is the white building at that intersection.  From there, campus police will lead us in our cars to a parking area close to the picket site.  Please bring appropriate signs and your Rosaries.

Please spread word of this, and please attend and pray for this effort.

Because many readers may not have been involved with protests of this sort, I present now a video of Randall Terry interviewing other brand-new activists who proclaimed truth at a function in Texas for Pete Buttigieg (another dissident Catholic) spoke.  If they can speak out, we can all stand for truth as well.

More On The Mount St Mary Situation

As stated last Sunday, Mark Shriver is a high-ranking official with the Save The Children Foundation.  It is ostensibly for that reason that Mount St Mary's asked him to do the 2019 commencement address.  It turns out that while his pro-abortion record alone should have disqualified him from this engagement, this Save The Children Foundation is problematic by itself.

Michael Hichborn of Lepanto Institute did some research into this foundation and discovered its advocacy of contraception and sterilization.  Hichborn ended his piece by stating that no faithful Catholic can provide funds or praise for an organization that promotes contraception under the guise of "helping children".  That would apply to the Mount as well.

A petition is being circulated to ask Dr. Trainor to rescind this invitation to Shriver and to get another who honors Catholic moral teachings.  I urge you to sign it and circulate it.  However, let me be clear - this petition by itself will not suffice to discharge our duties to stop this Shriver outrage.  Your phone calls and emails to both Dr. Trainor and Archbishop Lori are needed as well.

Some students and staff may recognize this flyer, as it was distributed on campus today.  If not, here it is.  Please feel free to reproduce it and to pass it around.  Please also call Dr Trainor and Archbishop Lori now.  Pray too that decency and common sense prevail.  If not, a picket may have to occur.  Thanks.

From The Et Tu Brute Department: Mark Shriver To Give Commencement Address At Mount St Mary's - Act Now To Stop This

In his book, Goodbye Good Men, Michael Rose extolled the seminary at the Mount as being one of the few decent ones that weren't overrun by gay pervert infestation.  Of course he wasn't speaking about the Mount at large, so maybe the seminary has been spared from participating in the immorality that must have underpinned this regrettable invitation.  Shriver will speak Saturday May 11 and receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters.  The abortion he advocates is anything but "humane".

As I look at the Board of Trustees, I see that Msgr John Enzler, of Catholic Charities notoriety, is on the board.  I perceive his paw-prints all over this invitation.

The Cardinal Newman Society has more information.  I've also posted on Shriver and the ridiculous pandering he's received from Churches and other Catholic organizations.  You'll also see in that anthology that faithful Catholics (including Yours Truly) have picketed him during some of those occasions.

Timothy Trainor, president of the university, can be contacted here.  Again, looking at the Board of Trustees, we see the name of Archbishop Lori on there.  Of course he'd be there, since the Mount is located within the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  It is worth noting that he attended seminary at the Mount.  He should also be contacted here.

We must ask them to withdraw the invitation to this pro-abortion person.  Else, they are flagrantly violating the directives set for in the USCCB's "Catholics In Political Life".  Will we picket this commencement?  The answer to that question is very much up to the Mount.

Also, please lodge your protests on the Mount's social media sites: Facebook and Twitter.

Update On The CBN-Shriver Situation

Yesterday I had sent several emails to CBN-Montgomery officers to protest the planned appearance of Mark Shriver.  Today I received a reply from Robert Scanlon, CBN-MC president.  He advised me that Shriver canceled his appearance due to a scheduling conflict.  Indeed, the main CBN page was changed to this:

He also mentioned that their board would discuss this matter at their next board meeting.  Therefore, I'd urge that we continue to write to them to remind them of the bishops' directives that those who flagrantly flout the Church's teachings on faith and morals not be honored and feted at Catholic venues.  The bishops' directive should be a key guiding principle as they select future speakers and guests of honor.

Catholic Business Network Of Montgomery County MD To Host Mark Shriver - Act Now To Forestall This Outrage

In their 2004 Statement on Catholics in Political Life, the nations' bishops had this to say: "The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions."

The Catholic Business Network of Montgomery County is preparing to act in defiance of the bishops, not to mention in defiance of decency, common sense and God's laws regarding human life.  On Friday, Sept 12, the featured speaker at their monthly breakfast will be Mark Shriver - unless of course the light of reason shines upon them and they rescind that invitation.  Here's a picture of their main web page - just in case that invitation gets (ahem!) "disappears" from that site.

My church bulletin alerted me to this.  Unfortunately that bulletin is not online yet.  The advertisement (most likely submitted by CBN) gave a glowing account of his political career and the book that Shriver wrote about his father.  Conveniently missing from that write-up is the unabashed support that Shriver has lent to abortion while in Annapolis.  In his failed bid for US Congress, he ran on a pro-abortion platform.  Even as he was touting his book on his father, he did not apologize for the fact that he took issue with his father's pro-life convictions.

As the bishops made clear in 2004, the CBN acted in appropriately by inviting Shriver to speak at their Catholic community.  Here is the contact information from their website and more contacts.  Please contact these individuals.  Politely but firmly insist that the invitation to Shriver be rescinded.  Please spread this word.

Raymond Arroyo!! Et Tu, Brute?

First, thanks to my commenter on the "4000babies.com" post for alerting me to this idiocy committed by EWTN last month.  Raymond Arroyo, who hosts "The World Over" on the EWTN network, interviewed Mark Shriver regarding his book about his father, Sargent Shriver.  See this link and scroll to number 5.

Regular readers of this blog will recall that when Shriver did a book signing at Blessed Sacrament several months ago, we were there to protest that profanation of a Catholic Church.  Mark Shriver, like most of his Kennedy kindred, is rabidly pro-abortion.  He used his office in the Maryland state legislature to support baby-killing and ran for US Congress on a pro-abortion platform.  It doesn't take much genius to realize that Blessed Sacrament lent legitimacy to the character, and thus the pro-abortion views of Shriver when it let him into their facilities.  Unfortunately EWTN, by Arroyo's actions, did the same for Shriver.

A supreme irony in the EWTN program is that the whole thing is billed as a "Fortnight for Freedom" special. As you know, that Fortnight effort was launched in an effort to protect religious freedoms from the onslaught of Obama-Hell-Care, a bill championed by the late Ted Kennedy - Shriver's pro-abortion uncle.

Mother Angelica, foundress of the Eternal Word Television Network, has been in very poor health these past few years.  I do not for one moment believe that if she were still at the helm of EWTN, this travesty would have seen the light of day.  I hope that there is some adult in charge there who will ensure that such stupidity never again besmirches the outreach for which Mother Angelica labored.

The Picket Of Shriver's Appearance At Blessed Sacrament Today

Alright, I'll say this up front.  There were only two of us protesting today's scandal at Blessed Sacrament in DC's Chevy Chase neighborhood.  However, isn't it usually the case that the number of demonstrators protesting a given debacle is less than the number of attendees at said debacle?  Well, I understand that today there wasn't that much difference!

The two of us stayed on the corner of Western Avenue and Quesada St.  We had signs along Quesada and we passed out the flyer that you see to the right.  It was about noon when a man came from the event to report what happened.  He said that there were only 8-10 people up there and that he and his family went there to question Shriver on his pro-abortion proclivities.  He also mentioned that the three parish priests were in attendance, as well as the parish librarian who invited Shriver.  She is the one who had invited Chris Matthews a few months ago - causing us to conclude that some more pastoral oversight might be in order with regards to the guests that she invites.

I didn't think to ask if that "8-10" person figure included his family and/or the parish staff.  For the sake of present discussion, let's suppose that the 8-10 people were folks in addition to his family and parish staff.  That still means that at the maximum, only 18 pairs of ears were listening to whatever Mark Shriver was saying.  I hope that his book sales were equally paltry.

The man's relatives soon emerged.  His sister reported that she asked Shriver if he shared his late father's pro-life convictions.  Shriver answered that it was one area in which he did not agree with his father.  He tried to answer that question quickly, but he did reiterate for the record his approval of baby-murder, in front of the pastor and priests who blew off our earlier pleas.

As I said, we distributed flyers - both in person and on cars.  Some people were obviously pro-abortion themselves (presumably including the individual who saw fit to steal one of our signs).  Others were just as appalled as we regarding Shriver's appearance.  One couple remarked that they too had tried to contact the pastor, but to no avail.  Perhaps further feedback from these parishioners will succeed where we failed.

On the flyer, I stated our prayers and hopes that there is never another such ridiculous pandering to pro-aborts as the two incidents we've now had.  Will we have to picket again?  That's entirely up to the Blessed Sacrament staff.

Picket! Mark Shriver To Be Honored At Blessed Sacrament!

Several months ago we picketed Blessed Sacrament Church in Washington DC (just east of Chevy Chase Circle) when they allowed raving pro-abortion Chris Matthews to peddle his book on church grounds.  I thank the person who commented on my report to alert us that apparently Blessed Sacrament has not yet seen the errors behind letting pro-abortion celebrities use Catholic grounds to promote themselves.

This Sunday, June 10th, again at 11:30am in the parish library, they're letting Mark Shriver peddle his wares on Catholic property.  You can see the mess announced on the church web site.  A sad ironic twist to this is that he wrote the book to honor his parents.  Most people will recall that Eunice Kennedy Shriver was most likely the only Kennedy who did not sell out her faith to promote the baby-murder known as abortion.  Most of her family - including Mark - promote baby-murder.  Thus it can be opined that Mark Shriver, in his embrace of abortion, dishonors his parents.

We will be there, as we were several months ago, to speak truth to the lie that "one can be pro-abortion and Catholic".   Please join us!

White Mass' Contradictory Planning Committee

On page 6 of the October 2011 edition of Our Parish Times is a 2/3 page advertisement for the annual White Mass.  It will take place Sunday, October 23rd at 11:30am at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew on Rhode Island Avenue.  This Mass is meant to "honor persons with special needs".

Listed therein is the "2011 Honorary Planning Committee".  We see on that list Mark Shriver.  No doubt he is on that list because of his parents, the late Eunice and Sargent Shriver.  Both did heroic work in their service to handicapped youngsters.  Moreover, both were pro-life and did not countenance abortion.

Sadly, not all their children followed in their footsteps, but rather those of Uncle Ted.  Many people don't know that Ted Kennedy once was pro-life, but flip-flopped with what he perceived to be public opinion and literally threw the babes under the bus.  Mark Shriver, in his public career, promoted the legalized murder of babies, as evidenced by a Washington Post interview during his failed run for US Congress (the pertinent remarks are near the bottom of the page).  The "right to choose" often involves the deliberate murder of babies found to be handicapped, precisely because of their handicap.  Now why again should he be honored by being on this "honorary committee"?
