Mark Shriver And The Mount - Rebuked Via Picket

On the morning of May 11, I joined eight young men from a PA chapter of the TFP Student Action as we stood outside the Knott Arena at the Mount.  We were there to protest their honoring of pro-abortion Mark Shriver in disobedience to the USCCB statement "Catholics in Political Life".

First, let me draw your attention to the picture at the right.  This is taken from our cordoned-off location across a driveway.  The red "x" marks the location where we were originally supposed to be.  We were told by the campus police officer who guided us to the location that the officials were "afraid we might slip and fall because the previous evening's rain had dampened the grass".  Well, bless their hearts!  Wasn't that just so, so ... thoughtful of them?  That yarn was so hokey that the police officer seemed embarrassed to say it.  In the video below, I made a point to show the difference from the original location to the place where we eventually were situated.

Also observe that woman leaning against the sign.  She was no doubt assigned to babysit us as she was there the whole time we were there.  The Mount officials really must have been afraid that we might (gasp!) talk with some of the people.  Such a horrifying prospect that must have been to them!

While our opportunities for conversation were somewhat curtailed, we still made our point.  The gentlemen from TFP have done similar protests.  One of their trademarks are bagpipes.  It's rather difficult not to notice bagpipes.  Oh yes, some attendees just breezed on by us, but they knew we were there, and these signs were quite prominent.

We did have some opportunity for conversation.  In the video you'll see one irate father who just didn't want to acknowledge that a pro-abort would be spouting "sweet nothings" into all their ears.  I suppose it didn't dawn on him (and many others) that quite a few who should have been graduating college that day never got the opportunity to even draw the breath of life, and that baby-murder was occurring in many Maryland localities as we were speaking, thanks in part to Shriver's abortion promotion.

However, a mother came up later to thank us for being there.  She disapproved of Shriver and affirmed our suspicions that the decision to invite Shriver caused much tension and division in the Mount community - as well it should have.

Let us pray that the leadership of Mount St Mary's never again is derelict in their responsibilities to provide Catholic example to their students and that they remember that they are Catholic first and foremost.

From The Et Tu Brute Department: Mark Shriver To Give Commencement Address At Mount St Mary's - Act Now To Stop This

In his book, Goodbye Good Men, Michael Rose extolled the seminary at the Mount as being one of the few decent ones that weren't overrun by gay pervert infestation.  Of course he wasn't speaking about the Mount at large, so maybe the seminary has been spared from participating in the immorality that must have underpinned this regrettable invitation.  Shriver will speak Saturday May 11 and receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters.  The abortion he advocates is anything but "humane".

As I look at the Board of Trustees, I see that Msgr John Enzler, of Catholic Charities notoriety, is on the board.  I perceive his paw-prints all over this invitation.

The Cardinal Newman Society has more information.  I've also posted on Shriver and the ridiculous pandering he's received from Churches and other Catholic organizations.  You'll also see in that anthology that faithful Catholics (including Yours Truly) have picketed him during some of those occasions.

Timothy Trainor, president of the university, can be contacted here.  Again, looking at the Board of Trustees, we see the name of Archbishop Lori on there.  Of course he'd be there, since the Mount is located within the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  It is worth noting that he attended seminary at the Mount.  He should also be contacted here.

We must ask them to withdraw the invitation to this pro-abortion person.  Else, they are flagrantly violating the directives set for in the USCCB's "Catholics In Political Life".  Will we picket this commencement?  The answer to that question is very much up to the Mount.

Also, please lodge your protests on the Mount's social media sites: Facebook and Twitter.

More On The Mount St Mary Situation

As stated last Sunday, Mark Shriver is a high-ranking official with the Save The Children Foundation.  It is ostensibly for that reason that Mount St Mary's asked him to do the 2019 commencement address.  It turns out that while his pro-abortion record alone should have disqualified him from this engagement, this Save The Children Foundation is problematic by itself.

Michael Hichborn of Lepanto Institute did some research into this foundation and discovered its advocacy of contraception and sterilization.  Hichborn ended his piece by stating that no faithful Catholic can provide funds or praise for an organization that promotes contraception under the guise of "helping children".  That would apply to the Mount as well.

A petition is being circulated to ask Dr. Trainor to rescind this invitation to Shriver and to get another who honors Catholic moral teachings.  I urge you to sign it and circulate it.  However, let me be clear - this petition by itself will not suffice to discharge our duties to stop this Shriver outrage.  Your phone calls and emails to both Dr. Trainor and Archbishop Lori are needed as well.

Some students and staff may recognize this flyer, as it was distributed on campus today.  If not, here it is.  Please feel free to reproduce it and to pass it around.  Please also call Dr Trainor and Archbishop Lori now.  Pray too that decency and common sense prevail.  If not, a picket may have to occur.  Thanks.

Mount St Mary's Careens Towards Decadance

Last month we had to picket the commencement at Mount St. Mary's owing to the fawning that they heaped upon pro-abortion Mark Shriver.  They have had other problems.  Now, via their alumni magazine, they are formally cooperating with the mortal sin of sodomy as committed by two of their graduates.

Two Mount graduates, currently engaging in perversion, are about to make a mockery of the Sacrament of Matrimony.  The Mount is assisting them in announcing their "engagement" just as they would the engagement of a man and woman.

The Church recognizes nine ways in which we can cooperate in sin, and thus partake in that sin.  That cooperation can either be remote or proximate, formal or informal.  I would think that printed praise of sodomy in their official publication is both formal and proximate cooperation in mortal sin on the part of Mount officials who instigated and allowed that praise.  They most likely share in the guilt of the sins of sodomy and sacrilege committed by those two alumni.

The LifeSiteNews article has embedded therein a letter of protest from an alumna of the Mount.  She spoke out against the sin, exercising the Spiritual Work of Mercy known as "rebuking the sinner".  Now the question remains, "what will you and I do about it?" We do not have the moral option to just shrug our shoulders and ignore the matter.

Calling All MD And PA Catholics To Stand For Truth This Saturday!

Several weeks ago I posted of the abominable decision of Mount St Mary's to ask pro-abortion and pro-sodomite Mark Shriver to give the commencement address at the Mount's graduation ceremony on May 11.  Despite the protests of many faithful Catholics, they are hell-bent (literally!) on kissing up to Shriver.  They seem not to care one whit that they are in flagrant disobedience to "Catholics In Political Life".

So now we are left with no choice but to picket.  We've got to preach truth to the people attending for Shriver, by his presence, will be posing a scandal to every person there.  We must provide the antidote and yes, we must speak a word of rebuke to those who dared to hold up for honor someone whose public stances are gravely immoral.

This picket effort is largely spearheaded by TFP Student Action.  They have done quite a few of these demonstrations; I've demonstrated along side of them twice at Georgetown University over the years.  Their personnel have secured a location for us to picket there, quite close to the entrance of the hall where the commencement will occur.

Please plan to arrive at 8:45 at the Campus Public Safety Office.  It is on the west side of Rte 15.  Turn from Rte 15 west onto Anadale Road then an immediate right onto Old Emittsburg Road.  The office is the white building at that intersection.  From there, campus police will lead us in our cars to a parking area close to the picket site.  Please bring appropriate signs and your Rosaries.

Please spread word of this, and please attend and pray for this effort.

Because many readers may not have been involved with protests of this sort, I present now a video of Randall Terry interviewing other brand-new activists who proclaimed truth at a function in Texas for Pete Buttigieg (another dissident Catholic) spoke.  If they can speak out, we can all stand for truth as well.

Faithful Catholics, Stop Sitting On Your Hands

The video below was posted by Randall Terry, reporting on his recent confrontations with rabidly pro-abortion CINO Joe Biden.  As most know, Biden is one of quite a few pro-abortion Democrats (a redundancy) running for President.  In his video, Terry states the reasons for his protest and encourages others to do the same.

As I watched this, I couldn't help but recall our action against Mark Shriver at Mount St Mary's last month.  Of all the faithful Catholic laity that I know exist in Maryland, only nine of us showed up - me and eight young men from the American Society of Tradition, Family and Property.  Now I realize that quite a few faithful Catholics were in front of abortuaries as they usually are on Saturday mornings.  I speak not to them for they are in fact speaking against evil in other venues.  They too find their numbers to be small.

I tried to drum up support for the Mount effort but at best the responses were "well, maybe".  Those "well maybes" turned into no-shows.  Ladies and gentlemen, please understand that while prayer is necessary and crucial, it is NOT sufficient.  In fact, I daresay that if one prays for the culture of life but yet refuses to step out of his/her comfort zone to engage in street activism, political action or just speaking publicly, then his/her prayers aren't worth the spit produced in the utterances, for they value their comfort over God's will.  It is they who need repentance as much as abortion supporters.  If you are going to repent, don't just go to confession (although that's advisable) but get out of your comfort zones and do something.  The next 40 Days campaign would be an excellent start.  Now the video.

My Challenge To Catholic Men's Societies

Last Saturday I posted about the sacrilegious attack on Holy Mass in Columbus Ohio, and the pathetic reaction to the thugs by the Mass attendees.  It appears that the men in that contingent simply allowed the thugs to run riot through the Church.  They were stopped only by the police; who knows how long it took them to arrive?

It dawned on me today that there are several Catholic men's organizations operating today.  Do any of them deal with these kinds of matters?  Are they contemplating any strategies?  I speak not only of the Knights of Columbus, but also newer ones such as That Man Is You and Exodus 90.

I looked at their websites just now and saw no signs of them even paying attention to such attacks - attacks that will only increase, given the current political climate that is our new reality.  They seem to be focused on personal holiness and family life, but that's it.  Ostensibly they are about promoting authentic Catholic manhood, but being an authentic Catholic also entails paying attention and addressing the spiritual and moral ills that plague society at large.  Last Saturday we had a case of those spiritually malevolent forces literally barging into our Churches.  How long will it be until they cause upheaval in your parish Mass, or even barge into your homes?  That will happen if they perceive passivity on our parts  - the men in particular.

In Spring of 2019, pro-abortion Mark Shriver gave the commencement address at Mount St Mary's in Emmitsburg MD.  I tried desperately to get a group of Catholics who would give a few hours of their Saturday morning to picket that mess.  I approached some men in my parish, but they excused themselves by saying that their TMIY chapter was going to watch one of their movies and discuss it afterwards.  I said nothing, but the irony struck me.  Here they were, choosing to talk about Catholic manhood while passing up an opportunity to actually do Catholic manhood.  I am not belittling the need for Catholic men to gather for fellowship, but I do question the reluctance to join a once-in-a-while opportunity to put their skin in the game, as it were.

As you saw in the linked post, I was not alone.  A group of young men from the American Society for the Defense of Tradition Family and Property were there.  These men are often out in the streets, confronting evil as they see it; I've been privileged to join them at Georgetown University, too.

In all of this discussion about Catholic manhood, has there ever been discussion or even a thought about the responsibility to defend against unjust aggression?  That is a responsibility particularly incumbent upon fathers and men.  Are these groups going to broach matters such as:

  • De-escalation skills
  • Crowd-control techniques
  • Restraining aggressive individual
  • Martial arts
  • Weapons usage
My hope and prayer is that this episode in Ohio can serve as a "wake-up" call so that Catholic men will actually take up their mantle, even if it involves rancor and even danger.  Some persecutions can be staved simply by standing up to aggressors in a firm manner.

Are You A Cotton-Candy Catholic?

In a recent Vortex, Michael Voris uses the term "country-club Catholics" to describe Catholics who do accept the Church's teachings but who refuse to discuss, let alone confront, the evil within the Church - especially when that evil emanates from the clergy and even the Vatican.  Instead of "country-club", I prefer the term coined by the Activist Mommy, "cotton candy Catholics".  This term more accurately describes the tendency of those milquetoast Catholics to play the three monkeys in terms of dealing with the Church's internal evils.

I have found myself flummoxed by this cotton-candy crowd myself.  These are the same folks who refuse to pray in front of abortuaries.  I now believe this is why we had such an abysmally poor turnout at the Mount when we protested Shriver's appearance.

The "cotton candy" crowd will simply have to take off the rose-colored glasses and put on their big-boy pants.  They will have to join us "deplorables" in getting some dirt under their fingernails and dealing with some guff from non-faithful CINOs.  They will have to join us in speaking truth to power - even when that power is one's own bishop.  They will have to deal with the fact that they will lose positions of influence in their parishes owing to speaking plain truth.  Anything less than that will entail great risk to their own souls, not to mention the furtherance of more evil in the Church.

We are the Church Militant!  We are NOT the "church milquetoast"!  We are NOT the "church mellow"!  We are NOT the "church mealy-mouth"!  We are NOT the "church mamby-pamby"!  MILITANT!  Got that?

Toughen up!  Man (or woman) up!  Grow up!  Now!

We Can't Use Private Revalation As An Excuse Not To Do Anything, Not To Fight

These words are uttered by Michael Matt at the 13:08 point of this video.  He goes on, "Soldiers of Christ, which we are by Confirmation, we must continue to fight".  He is speaking of those  who try to use the apparitions of Mary (I'm speaking of just the approved ones), particularly that of La Salette, as justification for praying only.  Nope!  It's ora et labora.

Think about it.  At last week's picket of Shriver at the Mount's commencement, why did only nine of us show up to protest?  I'm not asking that of those who were in front of abortuaries at that time for they were standing and fighting.  I'm speaking of those who, quite frankly, refuse to take a public stand for God's truth, out of cowardice and/or laziness.  Those in front of abortuaries likewise find themselves stretched thin.  If many people don't do some serious soul-searching on this point, they might find themselves unpleasantly surprised at their Particular Judgment at the moment of their deaths.
