Support Bishop Paprocki

Pro-abortion CINO's in the Illinois state legislature are working to pass an extremely deadly abortion-rights bill.  Bishop Thomas Paprocki has decreed that those CINO's may not receive Holy Communion in his diocese; he singled out by name the Illinois Senate President and the Speaker of the House.  Moreover he ordered his priests not to give them Holy Communion, should they dare present themselves for it.

Note what just happened.  Paprocki invoked Canon 916 when he directed that the pro-abortions not present for Holy Communion.  Canon 916 speaks to the laity.  This is not the first time I've heard bishops make this proclamation.  It is, however, the first time that I've heard a bishop order his priests to deny Holy Communion to pro-aborts.  This is Canon 915, that speaks to the ministers of Holy Communion.  Correction: Several decades ago, Bishop Rene Gracida, then bishop of Corpus Christi, put some pro-aborts under interdict.

As one can imagine, Bishop Paprocki is taking a lot of heat for his proclamation.  I daresay that a good portion of that heat might be coming from brother bishops.  Let's sign this petition to publicly support this bishop for acting like a bishop.  We pray that others follow suit.

USCCB = Unscrupulous Syndicate of Cash-Craving Bishops

In this Vortex, Michael Voris misspeaks when he describes "dreamers" as "children born in America to illegal aliens".  In fact, the "dreamers" themselves were born in their native countries and brought here by their parents as they crossed our borders illegally.  They are not "anchor babies".  Also, Bishop Paprocki didn't so much urge Dick Durbin not to present himself for Holy Communion.  While the bishop did that in the past, he recently instructed his priests that they are not to administer Holy Communion to him.  Durbin refused to obey Canon 916, so now Bishop Paprocki is  implementing Canon 915.

All in all though, Voris did an excellent job in summarizing how the USCCB is on the Democrats' financial leash.  Consider the disgusting attack staged by the Texas Catholic Conference against Texas Right to Life. I believe the Texas bishops were simply pandering to their progressive sugar daddies when they hurled their long knives at Texas Right to Life; see here and here.  Recall the millions that some of the Texas Catholic Charities offices received to "settle immigrants".  Consider that as Voris comments about all this "concern" that the USCCB has for illegals.

By the way - Voris made mention of the Catholic Relief Services.  The CRS is conducting its "rice bowl" campaign during Lent.  Here is a way that you can "do operation rice bowl" in a most productive and educational manner.

Excellent Idea For Annual Bishop/Cardinal Appeal

Most of the United States Catholics have recently been browbeaten asked to contribute to their annual chanceries' appeals.  I'm within the Archdiocese of Washington.  It's bad enough dealing with the routine progressivism that pours forth from the DC chancery.  However, with Cardinal Wuerl apparently playing a role in this Vatican financial flim-flam, the whole idea of contributing to this DC appeal is especially repugnant.  Regrettably I'm sure there are other such situations throughout the country.

Therefore I am grateful for reader/commenter "jmbutk" for his/her suggestion posted as a comment on my latest post on Bishop Paprocki.  He/she intends to divert his/her appeal dollars to the Diocese of Springfield as opposed to his/her home diocese.  I think that is an excellent example to be emulated.  Bishop Paprocki is a bishop worth supporting.

Of course he's not the only one. In this anthology of posts I've recounted the good deeds of several US bishops.  Perhaps some readers would care to donate to these bishops, too.  I haven't time or space to list all their addresses, but it would be a simple matter of googling their names to get the mailing addresses of their chanceries.

Let's support our good bishops with prayers AND with financial resources.

Bishops - Good And Bad

Let's start with the bad first so that we can end this post on the good side.  The German Bishops' Conference, under Cardinal Reinhard Marx, has formally declared it permissible to commit sacrilege against Holy Communion.  They are allowing Protestant spouse of Catholics to receive Holy Communion "under certain conditions".   Of course sensible people understand that "under certain conditions" is a polite way of saying "allowing the camel's nose to get under the tent".  We know where that leads.  Remember that at the infamous 1930 Lambeth Conference, the Anglican church permitted the use of contraceptives under "limited" circumstances.  Now the Anglicans and many other church bodies brook baby-murder, gay clergy, etc.

No one may permit that kind of sacrilege - ever.  If Cardinal Marx retains his position of influence, we can very well glean the pope's own attitudes towards the Eucharist - and perhaps towards God Himself.

That's the bad news about bad bishops - now for some good news about good bishops.

I've lauded Bishop Thomas Paprocki before on this blog.  He is the bishop of Springfield, IL.  In his diocese resides Senator Dick Durbin, one of the most rabidly pro-abortion faux-katholycs.  Bishop Paprocki recently announced that Durbin was not to be admitted to Holy Communion until he repents of his support of baby-murder. The straw that broke the camel's back appears to be Durbin's vote against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

Imagine that!  A bishop obeying Canon 915 and instructing his priests to do the same.  Let us pray that other bishops follow suit and that the wolves at the USCCB learn a thing or two from him.

Call For Faithful Catholics To Act - Please Thank Bishop Paprocki For Being A Real Bishop

Please see the previous post for details of Bishop Paprocki's actions - and the vitriol being hurled at him by progressives.  Of course they would be full of venom and spite for darkness hates the light and will always rail against it.

New Ways Monstrosity (my new pet name for it - UPDATE: let's make that New Ways Misery) has published an open letter to the Bishop in which they voice their resentment at the truth being spoken by the bishop.  I don't have time right now to pick this tome apart.  They urge their minions to communicate on their own to the bishop.  They give lip service to being civil, but we know what the reality will be.

I will say this much for the progressives, though.  Generally when they hear a tocsin for action, they will drop what they're doing and heed the call.  We faithful Catholics, on the other hand, tend to demure and content ourselves with watching from the sidelines and remain silent.  We no longer have the luxury of being passive - as if that was ever a valid option.  It's time we change that and we can start now.

The New Ways Monstrosity letter is helpful in one way: it conveniently provides the contact information for Bishop Paprocki.  Please use that to send your own message of support and thanks to the Bishop.  Given the hate and spite that the progressives are sending his way, our messages of support will be much appreciated.  If you feel tongue-tied and don't know quite what to say, LifeSiteNews has drafted a petition of thanksgiving to the Bishop.  Please click here if you would like to sign it.  Of course you can sign the petition and write your own message.

Please do not remain silent.  No one of us can afford to sit by while others do the "heavy lifting" as it were.  We, each one of us, are the Church Militant.  Let's stand up and act, and support those like Bishop Paprocki who take a leading stance.  Please pass this post to your contacts.

Bishop Paprocki Administers Truth To His Flock And Draws Ire Of Progressive Reprobates

On June 12th the Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield (IL) issued guidelines to his churches regarding those who openly flout Church teaching to the detriment of their souls.  I link to the original letter now.  Among other things, he has instructed his priests to obey Canon 915.  For ease of reference, I'll copy/paste it below.

Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.

That's not so complicated, is it?  Among other things the canon means that those who are flaunting themselves in their commission of mortal sins are not to be assisted by the ministers of Holy Communion in the commission of sacrilege against the Eucharist.  The purpose of this is several-fold:
  • It prevents the sinner from incurring the guilt of yet another mortal sin.
  • It protects the Eucharist from profanation.
  • It prevents scandal to other faithful Catholics
  • It hopefully will drive home to the flagrant sinner the need to repent and to make a good confession so as to escape the danger of eternal damnation.
With all the talk we're hearing about "mercy", we can see that the application of Canon 915 is an act of mercy.  However, some progressives who call themselves "catholic" are in a blather over the good bishop's much-needed directives.  I link now to one such hissy-fit at New Ways Ministry.  I'll highlight one paragraph that illustrates the author's (Robert Shine) abysmal grasp of both reading comprehension and basic Catholic morality.

It is discrimination to target LGBT people when, in a certain sense, all Catholics could be deemed “manifest sinners.” Who among us, including Bishop Paprocki, does not publicly sin at different moments? Yet, funeral rites are not denied to Catholics who pay employees an unjust wage, publicly advocate for the death penalty, or deny climate change.

Please refer to Canon 915, as written in its clear, concise manner.  Shine completely, and I think deliberately omits key descriptors of the sins that would call for the remedy of Canon 915.  Those descriptors are, "obstinately persevering", and "grave".  Shine is right; faithful Catholics do openly sin from time to time.  However, these faithful Catholics will not "obstinately persevere" and most likely the sins will not be "grave" but venial.  As we do have decent dreads of sin and its impact in our lives, we will get ourselves to Confession as soon as possible and we will make amends.  Thus the remedy of Canon 915 is not appropriate in those cases.

Shine also makes another error in assuming that liberal positions on several pet issues of the progressives, e.g., death penalty and climate change, are binding on the Catholic conscience.  They are not.  In fact, I've gone to great lengths to detail why I believe the progressive position on the death penalty may in fact be a sin.  To insinuate that divergence from these liberal positions warrant denial from Holy Communion is to sin against honesty and the Traditions of Holy Mother Church.

Let us recall, of course, that New Ways Ministry has itself been condemned by the Church and its dribblings carry no weight whatsoever.  However, it is helpful to see the intensity with which they wail and gnash their teeth when a Catholic bishop such as Bishop Paprocki is faithful to his sacred trust and utilizes his authority to protect his flock from the wolves of progressivism and heresy.

Words And Deeds Of Some Very Good Prelates

Among the bishops do exist some real champions of the Faith.  Today I have learned of some actions taken by several of them.

From Creative Minority Report, we hear that Bishop Thomas Tobin has declined an invitation to attend the gubernatorial inauguration of Gina Raimondo of Connecticut.  Raimondo, while Catholic, is a supporter of baby murder.  Bishop Tobin quite openly said that it would be a problem for him to attend the inauguration of a pro-abortion individual.  While the inauguration is in progress, the bishop plans to offer Mass at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul to offer prayers for newly elected officials.

Again from Creative Minority Report, we read of direction given to his chancery employees by Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami.  Basically he reminded them that no matter where they are, even in "off-hours" situations, that they always are representatives of the Church.  As such, they must always uphold Church teaching.  He issued this directive as same-sex "marriages" started happening in Florida.  The archbishop warned them that any conduct not in keeping with the Church's teaching - including support of so-called "same sex marriages" - could lead to a variety of disciplinary actions, including termination of employment.

Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, IL has ordered his churches to return the tabernacles to the center of the sanctuary of the churches.  He did so expressly to encourage prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  I might point out that Bishop Paprocki's action stands in stark contract to the ludicrous stance of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines that has expressly directed that the tabernacle (that is, the Blessed Sacrament) should be shoved away from the center into some alcove.

LifeSiteNews reports of a recent interview given by Cardinal Raymond Burke.  In this interview, the cardinal explains how the Church has been damaged by radical feminism.  Among other worthwhile words, the Cardinal stated that the introduction of "altar girls" has discouraged boys from taking that role and may have inhibited priestly vocations among them.  Father Z has an analysis of that interview, too.

Pray for these four prelates, as the progressives do have their long knives drawn and pointed at them.  Pray that many more may follow their examples.

Welcomed House-Cleaning

Pope Francis excommunicated the heretic president of "We Are Church", Martha Heizer and her equally heretic husband Gert.  Among other things, both of them have simulated the celebration of Mass - itself a grave offence.  For that we are grateful and we pray for the repentance of the Heizers.

We also learned that Bishop Paprocki of Springfield Illinois excommunicated another "priestess-wannabee".  Her name is Mary F. Keldermans.  She went through a mock "ordinaton" for Roman Catholic Womynpriests Inc.  In doing so, she incurred an automatic excommunication, ratified by His Excellency.

Let us pray for these wayward women for they both have placed their souls in danger of hell.   Let us pray that more medicine of truth and discipline be administered to such souls before their eternal fates are sealed.

Bishop Paprocki To Offer Prayers For Exorcism And Reparation For Sin Of Gay Marriage

Bishop Thomas Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield (IL) continues to stand strong against the perversion of marriage.  He has announced that at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Nov 20, he will conduct prayer for exorcism and reparation for the sin of "gay marriage" (I use quotes for the phrase "gay marriage" is an oxymoron).  This is the approximate time that Governor Quinn is expected to sign that legislation into law.  There are accounts here and here.

Bishop Paprocki's actions in defense and proclamation of the faith are numerous and stellar, as previously noted here.  Let us pray for more bishops such as he.

A Tale Of Two Bishops

Two very different bishops have shown the world what motivates them - one to shame and the other to honor.  First let's look at the "bad news".

Bishop Gary Gordon is prelate to the Diocese of Whitehorse in Yukon, Canada.  This diocese had promulgated a policy for pastoral care for same-sex attracted students in its schools.  At first this policy conformed to and echoed the Church's teachings regarding homosexuality.  But these schools are publicly funded.  It aroused a bit of rancor among the politically-correct public.  The Minister of Education ordered Bishop Gordon to expunge the policy of Catholic morality.  Shamefully the bishop cowered and complied.  It would have been better for the all concerned had the bishop simply refused to accept any more government funds and made clear to all that the laws of Jesus Christ reign supreme.  Instead, he squandered an opportune teaching moment and brought shame upon the Church in Canada.

That's today's bad news - now for the good news.

Bishop Thomas Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield is acting proactively to stare down a planned gay-rights protest.  He has already announced that anyone wearing rainbow sashes (indicating affiliation with the Rainbow Sash Movement) will not be granted admittance to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  Furthermore he stated that anyone praying for "marriage equality" will be asked to leave.  He did reiterate that the church remains open for those who wish to repent of their sins.  Now this is a bishop!!

Two Catholic Profiles In Courage

PROFILE #1
A few days ago, Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield IL debated dissident faux-nun and New Ways dabbler Sr Jeannine Gramick on the topic of so-called "gay marriage".  The event was entitled "Two Catholic Views on Marriage".  Right off the bat, Bishop Paprocki corrected that misnomer, stating quite clearly that there is only one authentically Catholic view of marriage - which also happens to be the only authentic view of marriage.  He also stated that his late secretary, Mary Stachowicz, was murdered by a gay activist 11 years ago for daring to suggest that he change his lifestyle.  He contrasted the media's silence about her murder in comparison with that of Matthew Shepherd who was murdered at around the same time.  I remember those incidents and recall noticing the disparity of media attention regarding those two crimes.  Please follow this LifesiteNews link for a complete text of the bishop's remarks.  Kudos to Bishop Paprocki for speaking plain truth to the face of political correctness.

PROFILE #2
Mark Birk plays the center position for the Baltimore Ravens.  He went with them to the Super Bowl.  He's also a Catholic and pro-life activist.  Most of the Ravens attended an audience with President Obama.  He opted not to join them, owing to Obama's support of Planned Parenthood and of the murder of babies.  That might make a football fan out of me yet!

It's nice to have some good news for a change!

Illinois Bishops Fighting Sodomite Marriage Perversion

Bishop Paprocki of Springfield has asked assistance in spreading information of his struggle for authentic marriage in Illinois.  Since Maryland has already degraded itself in that fashion, we are most happy to offer assistance.  Here is his letter.  Click here if you cannot see embedded video.

Vortex On Bishop Paprocki's Proclamation Of Truth

Michael Voris comments on Bishop Paprocki's warning that those who vote for candidates promoting intrinsic evils place themselves in danger of eternal damnation.  Oh yes, Stephen Schneck and "katholycs for Obama" types, this means you!  And of course, this is also addressed to bishops and other clergy who would trifle with their own eternal fates by casting a vote for Obama and his Party of Death.  By the way, that would be the Democratic party, by dint of their choices of party platform planks.

Solid Catholic Voices On Voting

In yesterday's post I linked to Bishop Paprocki's letter on voting.  If you haven't read it yet, please do so.  Today I learned that Archbishop John Myers (Archdiocese of Newark, NJ) released a pastoral letter to his archdiocese entitled "When Two Become One: A Pastoral Teaching on the Definition, Purpose and Sanctity of Marriage".  I also recommend that to your reading.

Dr. Jeff Mirus of Catholic Culture released yesterday an article entitled "The Dangers of Voting Your Heart: An Intrinsically Moral Guide".  I also recommend that you read it.  A few weeks ago I posted on Voting and the Principle of Double Effect; therein I voiced (and, in my opinion, adequately substantiated) my belief that abstention from this presidential race is morally problematic.

Below is a video from Rosaryfilms that nicely sums up Catholic principles for voting in the United States.  Click here if you cannot see embedded video.

A Message To Black Voters

Bishop E.W. Jackson, president of STAND, was a candidate for US Senate during Virginia's primary (George Allen won that primary).  A few weeks ago he held a press conference at the National Press Club and called for Christians, Jews and all people of good will to forsake the Democrat Party.  Any sane person who watched the Democratic National Convention knows that it has jettisoned any vestige of adherence to the one true God and His laws.  Here it is.  Please spread it far and wide.

As you listen, take note of what he says, starting at 6:55.  He is calling on his fellow blacks to end the "slavishness, dependency, etc that the Democrat party has demanded of the black community.."  Those words can well be echoed at the Catholic hierarchies, to shuck off the influence of the progressives, "nuns on buses", Schneck-types, etc and throw off allegiance to the Democrat party.  Catholic Charities and CRS are way too dependent on Federal dollars to survive; if they can't go "cold-turkey" from federal (and state) funding, they need to be shut down now.  And yes, the Catholic clergy must start obeying Canon 915 and stop punishing those of their number who are obeying it.

Update!  I've just been made aware of a Catholic bishop who is speaking out.  That bishop is Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield IL.  I link now to a letter that he wrote to his congregation.  He does make the point that while the Democratic platform promotes intrinsic evils, the GOP platform doesn't.  Let us pray that more speak out.

Bishop Paprocki Brings Back Prayer To St Michael

Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield IL has authorized public recitation of the Prayer to St Michael at all Masses after the dismissal and before the recessional.  Read more from the Catholic Citizens of Illinois.  The text to that prayer follows:

St. Michael The Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protector against the wickedness and snares of the devil.  May God rebuke him we humbly pray. And dost thou, o prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan & all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

This prayer is part of a larger collection of prayers after Mass that Pope Leo XIII had directed to be said after all Low Masses.  Most of us recall these as the Leonine Prayers.  I've been praying these privately after Mass now for several years.  Here they are.

PRAYERS OF POPE LEO XIII AFTER MASS
  1. Hail Mary (3x)
  2. Hail Holy Queen
  3. Let us pray. O God, our refuge and our strength, look down with favor upon Thy people who cry out to Thee; and through the intercession of the glorious and immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Saint Joseph her spouse, of Thy Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and of all the saints, do Thou mercifully and graciously hear the prayers which we pour forth to Thee, for the conversion of sinners and for the freedom and exaltation of Holy Mother Church. Through the same Christ our Lord, Amen.
  4. Prayer to St. Michael
  5. Invocation to the Sacred Heart (3x)

I join the Vortex in thanking Bishop Paprocki for recognition of our need for angelic help in our spiritual warfare.  Click here if you can't see embedded video.
