Dobbs - What It Means For Pro-Life Activists

Note: Although I wrote the below article for a local Maryland publication, the same ideas are applicable for many areas of the United States.

(begin article)

On January 22, 1973, the US Supreme Court handed down two decisions that paved the way for the slaughter of millions of babies in the US alone: Roe v Wade and Doe v Balton.  Roe v Wade basically rendered unenforceable all state laws that either limited or banned abortion.  Roe removed all limits during the first trimester of pregnancy and Doe removed them in later parts of the pregnancy “to protect the health of the mother”.  However, Doe’s definition of “health of the mother” included all factors such as “emotional, familial” etc.  This definition therefore included any factors desired by the mother.  Both of these combined amounted to abortion on demand with no restriction whatsoever.

The premises of Roe were acknowledged by both sides of the abortion controversy to be constitutionally flawed.  First, there is the false premise of “privacy”.  It is based on a faulty reading of the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution that barred “unreasonable search and seizure”.  The operative word there is “unreasonable”, for the usage of that word admits the existence of reasonable searches and seizures.  The false premise was utilized in the 1965 case known as Griswold v Connecticut; that ruling allowed for the usage of contraceptives.  It’s interesting that even here we see how the usage of contraceptives paved the way for baby-slaughter, but I digress.

Built into the Roe decision was the acknowledgement that if the fetus were indeed a person, all abortion bans would be constitutional as the unborn child would enjoy all constitutional protections per the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.  Since 1973, medical advances have been made that demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt that the unborn child is as fully human as any adult.  We have the sonogram, for instance, that shows a very human face on the unborn child in his/her mother’s uterus.  We also have seen many advances that have decreased the age at which the unborn child can survive outside of the womb, resulting in the arbitrary benchmark of “viability” being decreased.

With the acknowledgement of Roe’s eventual demise, both pro-abortion and pro-life advocates have been struggling to enact legislation that would either codify Roe v Wade on state books or reinforce protections for unborn children.  On the federal level, pro-abortion activists were successful in having enacted the Freedom of Choice Act after Bill Clinton took office.  Many of us in Maryland will recall the epic battle over SB162 that was enacted to liberalize abortion laws in Maryland, going even beyond the federal Freedom of Choice Act.  Not too surprisingly, that passed, making Maryland a veritable abortion bonanza – more on Maryland later.

A few abortion regulation cases over the years made it to the Supreme Court, only to have the cases decided for the pro-abortion positions owing to the make-up of the Supreme Court.  However, after Donald Trump took office, he replaced Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, and Rita Ginsberg with Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Comey-Barrett respectively, giving a different tilt to the Court.

On Dec 1, the Supreme Court heard arguments for the Mississippi case called Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization.  Jackson Women’s Health Organization is Mississippi’s lone abortion mill.  They bristled at the 2018 legislation called the Gestational Age Act that limited their baby-slaughter to the first 15 weeks of pregnancy.  Note that this law directly contradicts Roe v Wade; the latter stated that abortion in the first trimester could not be limited.  I want to reiterate that Roe is a court ruling, not enacted law.

I won’t go into any particulars of the discussions during that Supreme Court hearing.  Suffice it to say that the Trump appointees gave indications that they were seriously considering the scientific and constitutional issues underlying the Dobbs case while some Obama appointees displayed quite the opposite.  There is hope that the Mississippi law will stand, meaning the overthrow of Roe v Wade.

The demise of Roe would mean that the anti-abortion laws that several states have would now be enforceable.  In other words, babies would enjoy some safety depending on their location.  Therefore, in some states they would be safe, while still threatened in other states.

Maryland is among that latter group.  Some of us will remember the big abortion battle in Maryland during the 1992 elections, where we fought against SB 162 that legalized abortion in Maryland for any reason and any stage of gestation.  We lost that battle and as a result, Maryland is seen by abortionists as a mecca for baby-slaughter.  Hence we have the likes of Leroy Carhart setting up shop in Montgomery County, a locale that is particularly friendly to abortionists.

We can glean some lessons from this scenario.  As noted earlier in this article, President Trump appointed three Supreme Court justices who are now hearing this case.  Had Hillary Clinton won that election, we know for a fact that she would have appointed pro-abortion justices; she loudly proclaimed that herself.  Under her court, this case would never have been allowed to see the light of day.

Another lesion we can learn is the importance of local-level elections.  If Roe is scuttled, the abortion conflict descends to state levels.  Therefore we now see that we must elect pro-life candidates in all levels of government.

I will now take a moment to address a regrettable tendency among pro-life people that was on display during the 2016 presidential elections.  Then we were presented with two candidates.  Neither one could have been held as a paragon of virtue.  However, one candidate made very clear her intent to promote baby-killing, the normalization of sexual perversion and a host of other evils.  The other, with his admittedly chequered past, promised the opposite.  Misguided pro-lifers trumpeted their disdain in voting for the “lesser of two evils” and decided not to vote at all.  Well, since Our Lord is never a candidate for election, it will be safe to assume that only flawed human beings will seek election.  Such are our options.  To not vote is itself a dereliction of duty to at least mitigate any harm to be done to civic life.  Again, had Trump not won, we would not be presented with this opportunity at all.

There have always been hopes of passing a human life amendment to the US Constitution, guaranteeing constitutional protections to unborn people.  In order for that to happen, the amendment must receive 2/3 votes from both houses of the US Congress and be ratified by 3/4 of the state legislatures.  This will require much political activism on our parts.  To those who claim that the abortion matter will not be solved by politics, I reply that they are correct in saying that politics itself will not be sufficient.  However, politics will be necessary as we strive for protection of the unborn child.

For Maryland, an immediate consequence of Roe’s demise would be an uptick in the numbers of abortions committed here.  The bordering states of Virginia and Pennsylvania do have abortion restrictions on their books that would become enforceable.  Once that happens, abortion-bound persons would be crossing into Maryland to murder their children.  Therefore, pro-life people, more than ever, will be needed in front of the abortion centers to pray and to offer assistance to abortion-bound women.

Will you accept the opportunities and challenges that a Roe reversal would bring to Maryland?

The End Of Roe V Wade May Be In Sight - Pray

Today the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case Dobbs V Jackson Women's Health.  It will address specifically the ridiculous notion that abortionists are qualified to determine the viability of a child who is targeted for abortion.  This will be the first abortion case to be decided by a Supreme Court without Ruth Bader Ginsburg and with Amy Comey Barrett.  Please note that the abortuary did not want the Supreme Court to take the case.

Former President Trump appointed three justices: Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Barrett.  As LifeSiteNews points out, their votes are still largely unknown.  Had Hillary Clinton appointed three Supreme Court justices, those votes would be very well known - to be deadly, that is.

I do not know when the Court will begin to hear arguments with regard to that case, nor when judgment will be handed down.  We're certainly looking at several months.  Between then and now we must pray that God will enlighten and embolden these justices to pursue the right to life for all.

BREAKING! Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Died

The pro-abortion Associate Justice of the Supreme Court died earlier today.  Of course the internet is all atwitter about the news.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why ELECTIONS MATTER.  This is why each and everyone of us must vote to at least prevent harm done by a terrible candidate.  What do you think would be happening right now if Hillary Clinton was in the White House?  What do you think will happen if (God forbid) Joe Biden wins the White House?

Two things we need to do now:

  1. Pray for God's mercy on her immortal soul, that somehow she made an act of perfect contrition before she died.  In formally and materially cooperating in the mortal sins of baby-murder and sexual perversions by her votes, she herself is objectively guilty of serious sins.
  2. Pray that a worthy replacement for her may soon be nominated and confirmed very soon.

Another Supreme Court Improvement On The Horizon

This improvement is occasioned by the upcoming retirement of Anthony Kennedy.  Long known to be a "swing vote", his vote swung the wrong way to affirm Roe V Wade and to foist upon us gay #mowwidge.  If the nomination and seating of Neil Gorsuch is any indication, we might have some real improvement on that court very soon.

Ladies and gentlemen, this proves once again that ELECTIONS MATTER!  To my #nevertrump friends (if you still are in that camp), if you had your way, Kennedy's announcement would have been a harbinger of disaster.  Aren't you glad now that Hillary is not in the White House?

President Trump Nominates Neil Gorsuch To Supreme Court

From what I can gather, Mr. Gorsuch seems to be a good choice to fill the seat vacated by the death of Antonin Scalia.  As a judge of the U.S. 10th District Court of Appeals, he ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby against the ACA gremlins that tried to force them to provide contraceptives for employees.  In his acceptance speech this evening, he decried the de facto legislation that progressive judges do from the bench.  Conservative Review has other highlights about him.

Many pro-life groups (see here and here for example) express hope for this nominee.  Of course he faces a rigorous Senate hearing, particularly in light of some of the Democratic temper tantrums that have been occurring.  We need to pray and lobby our senators to confirm him.

Now let me say a word to my #nevertrump friends.  If you had your way several months ago, this quality nomination would have remained a far-distant dream of ours.  Indeed, can one imagine the scoundrel that Clinton might have nominated, if you had your way?  Alright, I didn't merely have a word with you; it's a rebuke but one you earned.  I hope you are learning your lessons.

Center For Medical Progress Releases Its Twelfth Video

On Wednesday March 2, the US Supreme Court began hearing arguments in the case of Whole Women's Health v Hellerstedt regarding Texas' 2013 law requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

In anticipation of this hearing, the Center for Medical Progress has released its twelfth video.  Please watch this and spread the word.  Above all, pray.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Has Died

I just saw this on the blog of my colleague at One Peter Five.  Justice Scalia was found dead this morning.  He was a faithful Catholic and as such, one of the sane voices on the United States Supreme Court.  I needn't tell you the significance this lends to this election, and to the need for the decent US Senators to stop a nefarious nomination by Obama to fill Scalia's seat.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.  May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Some Food For Thought

This address was given shortly before #mowwidge was given faux-legitimacy by the Supreme Court.  Is the demise of the United States - and western civilization - now written in stone?  A large part of that answer lies in whether or not the Catholics in the pew wake up, pray, repent and act.

Today Is Probably America's Darkest Day Since Roe V Wade

Today the United States of America disgraced itself almost beyond recognition and (I pray not!) perhaps beyond repair with today's Supreme Court ruling in the Obergefell v Hodges ruling.  In a 5-4 ruling, they basically mandated that so-called "gay marriage" must be recognized by all 50 states.  In other words, they attempted to redefine marriage to mean something other than what God intended.  The very first line of the US Declaration of Independence invokes "the laws of nature and nature's God".  Now the United States Supreme Court has set itself - once again - above God and His immutable laws.

An earlier occasion, of course, was the Roe v Wade decision of 1973.  At that time, the Court decreed that the individual states did not have the ability to protect unborn babies from the barbaric practice of abortion.  42 years later, this nation is awash in the blood of over 60 million murdered babies - blood that is on our hands as a nation.  Now, once again, we have made a paradigm leap into godlessness and barbarism.

Ladies and gentlemen, both these ills (and many more) are the direct result of rejecting God's teachings regarding marriage, sexuality and family life as found in Casti Connubii and Humanae Vitae.  Much of that rejection came from those who called themselves Catholics - including clergy.  A careful reading of Humanae Vitae reveals a list of all the evils that would befall society if contraception were accepted.  As I read through that list, it's hard to realize that this was written almost 50 years ago; it could have been written 5 years ago, given its accuracy.

Much of the blame for the degradation of society, particularly western culture, can be laid squarely at the feet of Catholic leaders.  Instead of sticking to their God-given mission of saving souls, that is, preaching the truths of faith and morals, they've been scurrying about and spreading tripe about "social justice".  To fund all their "social justice" hogwash, they silenced themselves regarding morals in order to curry the favors of those who are wealthy and influential.   Now we all reap the bitter fruit of their betrayal of the Faith.

Before I was able to sit down and compose this post, I read other Catholic commentary on today's unmitigated disaster.  Some of the commentary was written by well-meaning and very faithful Catholics with the laudable but mistaken intention of trying to soften the blow to us.  One went so far as to opine that "this is not a time for mourning".  I respectfully disagree.  The book of Joel does call for "weeping, fasting and mourning" as the prophet spoke of response to the sins of a nation.  We received a wake-up call today - at least I hope we have.  These calls can - and should - leave us shocked and disturbed and even angry.  The real question is, "will we allow our profound sorrow to finally motivate us into decisive prayer and action"?  That question remains to be answered by each and every one of us.

I will say this much for some hope in the face of this calamity.  Whereas the Roe v Wade vote was a 7-2 vote, this was 5-4; had it not been for Kennedy's faulty "katholycism" this vote might have been a narrow victory.  Moreover, when Roe v Wade happened, I don't recall it garnering as much outrage as this vote has.  Granted, I was in high school when Roe happened and I do think at the time news of Lyndon Johnson's death on the same day overshadowed the news of the vote, and there was no internet in 1973, but still very few noticed Roe v Wade when it happened.  Now we know and we are able to mobilize.

As our Catholic leaders helped to grease the skids to national perdition over these past few decades, theirs' is the responsibility to lead the way to repentance and restoration.  They must start by devoting themselves to proclaiming God's teaching regarding marriage, sexuality and family life - starting with the Sunday sermons.  When did you last hear a Sunday homily that stated the truth that the usage of contraception is mortally sinful?  I can't remember, either.  They need to start obeying Canon 915 - that means you, Cardinals Dolan and Wuerl!

Meanwhile we are not going to cease speaking out and defending the teachings of Jesus Christ, tyrannical court ruling notwithstanding.

US Supreme Court Strikes Down Massachusetts Bubble Zone Law

The Supreme Court, in its unanimous ruling in McCullen v Coakley, upheld the First Amendment rights of pro-life activists in Massachusetts by ruling that the 35-foot bubble zone was unconstitutional.  Here is a more in-depth analysis from LifeSiteNews.  Here is CBS covering the ruling, with an interview of Matt Bowman of Alliance Defending Freedom.

Rob Schenk was in the court chambers as the ruling was pronounced.  Below are his remarks.

This ruling will obviously bode well for those of us across the nation who pray and offer help to abortion-minded ladies.  In gratitude for this ruling, won't you please join some pro-lifers who are already at an abortuary nearby you?

Some Logic-Challenged Progressives Stick Feet In Mouths

This happened last week at the rally in front of the Supreme Court as it prepared to hear Hobby Lobby's case.  Obamacare supporters were also there and Media Research Center interviewed them.  This would be humorous if not so scary.  Why scary?  Because these people vote!

Cardinal Burke's Interview Two Months Ago - Truth With Clarity

Two months ago, Cardinal Burke gave an interview for a Polish magazine - naturally published in Polish.  LifeSiteNews has obtained an English translation of it.  In this interview, Cardinal Burke has outlined with clarity Christian truths as they impact our culture at large.

I urge careful attention to be paid to questions 7 and 10 - and most especially # 10.  Consider that in light of the HHS contraception mandate cases being heard by the US Supreme Court; oral arguments commenced today.

Today came the news that something called the "National Coalition of American Nuns" has sided with the Obamanistas and support the contraception mandate, throwing their fellow Catholics under the bus.  Of course, what also went under the bus are their religious vows.  Perhaps they should study question 7 in the Burke interview.

Judie Brown of American Life League and Rush Limbaugh weighed in on the interview as well.

Texas Abortion Laws Stand, Thanks Be To God!

LifeSiteNews reports today that the US Supreme Court, by a 5-4 vote (and we know the roll-call, don't we?) refused to block Texas' abortion restrictions.  That means, ladies and gentlemen, that lives will be saved.  In fact, they are being saved and murder-camps are folding.

Ladies and gentlemen, two "take-aways":
  1. The Texas law is by no means perfect.  But it's progress.  Contrary to popular opinion, Roe v Wade did not happen overnight.  The pro-death march towards that ruling was long in the making.  Our return to sanity will likewise not be a miraculous cake-walk.  It will be accomplished step by step.
  2. Elections matter, even if the candidates put forth are not the knights in shining armor that we think we deserve.  Those five votes were cast by people appointed by Republican presidents, no exception.  No Democrat appointed them.  Needless to say that had some Republicans not stayed home in 2008 and 2012 in temper-tantrum snits, we might be looking at a much different political landscape.  We might have seen a microcosm of the national scenario a few weeks ago in Virginia; had not that libertarian run (supported by Soros money, by the way) Ken Cuccinelli might be governor-elect.

CitizenLink Unpacks Today's SCOTUS Marriage Decisions

In the video below, Stuart Shephard and Bruce Hausknecht analyze what today's two decisions mean, and what they don't mean.  One immediate implication is that the fight for morality is far from over.  We will not roll over and play dead, much to the chagrin of the progressives.  By the way - in his dissent, Antonin Scalia had some choice words for those who seek to demonize us.

Vortex Report On What Should Have Been Done At The Beginning

We do need to address contraception as the fundamental evil that it is.  The pro-life movement, following a misguided "ecumenical" impulse, looked the other way on this.  No longer can we do so.

RINOs Making Betrayal Noises in Kagan Matter

Please read this Lifenews article and take note of these Republican senators who are either: 1) pro-abortion themselves or 2) suffering from lack of backbone.  Then plan to retire these folks asap.  I don't know when they're up, but there's a 60% chance that they're either up in 2010 or 2012.

Kagan's True Colors Starting to Show

Despite attempts to depict Elena Kagan as a "moderate" regarding abortion, proof of her murderous sentiments are emerging.  Lifesite News informs us that she has financially supported National Partnership for Women and Families: an outfit that proclaims its support for baby-murder on its own website.

Now aren't you glad that you have resources such as Lifesite News and, yes, this blog to put you in touch with information that the Messiah Most Miserable and his Minions Most Mindless would rather that you not have?  It's called Free Speech.  It's a God-given right.  The First Amendment to the US Constitution guarantees that the Federal government shall not attempt to abridge that right.

In another responsible exercise of that free speech right, Wesley Pruden penned a piece in today's Washington Times (to which I now link) detailing Kagan's disdain for free speech.  Pruden reports, "It's perfectly OK, she wrote in the University of Chicago Law Review, for the government to restrict free speech as long as it means well and calls it something else."  I link to the article to which Pruden refers.  She is indeed a lawyer, as witnessed by the 105 pages in this pdf.  What difference does "governmental motive" make?  The First Amendment is clear and simple - no restrictions.  Long and short - she wants to ascribe to the governmental de-facto deities the power to define their speech - and ours!  Is this the kind of Orwellian society that we want?

Kagan must be rejected by the Senate.

Moral Injustice of the First Order

Elena Kagan, Obama's pick to replace John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court, is very worred about a "moral injustice of the first order."    And just what hideous evil has rankled Ms. Hagan?  Why, it's the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy regarding gays within its ranks.  She was so incensed about it that she used it to ban miliary recruiters from Harvard Law School's campus (while she was dean).

One might wonder what does she think of the bestial dismembering and murder of babies that occurs in this country at least 3500 times a day?  Oh, silly me!  Of course she thinks that's just fine and dandy!  Murder of helpless children, in her eyes, is a "good"!  Do we need another of these on the Supreme Court?

Real Catholic TV on Elena Kagan

Real Catholic TV speaks out against Elena Kagan.  One thing they point out is her complete lack of judicial experience.  Frankly, I can see why the Messiah Most Miserable looks favorably upon such lack.  After all, he has no substantial experience either - just some very dangerous, crackpot ideas that suit the purposes of George Soros and other progressive "deep-pockets".  (Click here if you can't see embedded videos)

Elena Kagan - Another Disaster Looms for Supreme Court - Prayer Vigil to Combat It

President Obama has nominated U.S. Soliciter General to replace John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court.  Naturally she is pro-abortion and pro-gay "marriage".  Would the Messiah Most Miserable have nominated her if she wasn't?
