Local Pregnancy Center Vandalized By Pro-Aborts Having Temper Tantrums

Several years ago I and some other sidewalk counselors gave a training seminar that was hosted by Capitol Hill Crisis Pregnancy Center in Washington DC.  It was clear to me that this was a place truly dedicated to helping women who choose to let their babies live, as opposed to subjecting them to grisly deaths.  The place abounded with all manners of baby care items, etc.

I therefore immediately recognized the place as I saw its picture on this LifeSiteNews piece.  The overgrown brats who did this cannot deal with the fact that some areas of the country will once again be able to protect children.  Ironically, Washington DC, where this happened, will remain a locale where babies will be in mortal danger.  But think of it.  If Roe does go down, the progressives will not be able to destroy as many babies as they have done, so they will look for any decent thing that they can destroy, be it pregnancy centers or churches.

Such destructive temper tantrums are coming in many forms.  Resurrecting tactics that NARAL tried in 2009, the New York state legislature passed legislation that will allow them to "investigate" pro life pregnancy centers for not slaughtering babies.  That's like investigating the American Cancer Society for not selling cigarettes.  I trust this will go down in flames just as the other NARAL tactics did in 2009.

Again, in related news, the Department of Homeland Security warmed the nation's Catholic bishops that their churches could be targeted for vandalism if Roe is scuttled, and clergy could be targeted for personal violence.  Please notice something.  The threats seem to be centered on Catholic establishments.  They aren't threatening Protestant churches or other houses of worship.  Whether the progressives realize it or not, they are acknowledging that the Catholic Church is the one true bulwark for Godly moral truth.  At any rate, we will have to be on the alert and be prepared to physically stop anyone from desecrating our churches and the Blessed Sacrament.

Have Some Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers Taken Leave Of Their Senses?

LifeSiteNews reports that some pro-life pregnancy centers are applying for Title X funding.  The HHS is withholding them from outfits that commit abortions and now some cpc directors are finding it difficult to resist the federal funding siren call.  The LSN article reports that pro-aborts are upset about this seeking after federal funding.  For vastly different reasons than those of the pro-aborts, I too look askance upon this funding endeavor.

First, let's be honest about the term "federal funding".  From where do these "federal funds" come?  Hint - take a look in the mirror.  That's right; federal funding really means that the money is taken from the pockets of each and every taxpayer in this country.  That is not a charitable donation, for the term "charitable donation" means a free-will gift.  Once upon a time, many decades ago, the federal government understood its constitutional limits.  It understood that it was not in the business of determining which endeavors deserved access to our wallets.  That understanding faded many years ago, and now has apparently faded from the understanding of otherwise good people.  This "federal funding" amounts to income-redistribution, teetering very close to socialism.  I am baffled that those who otherwise call themselves "conservative" let themselves be seduced by the easy lure of "free" money.

Now is that money really "free"?  Of course not!  There is a saying, "he who has the gold, rules".  That certainly is true when it comes to governmental grants.  Always there are strings attached - at least eventually.  Maybe the Trump administration will be relatively benign, but what would happen if these pregnancy centers became dependent on federal grants to fund their budgets - and another Clinton or Obama were to win the White House in future years?  How many attempts have we seen over the past several years to get Christian charities to hire LGBT people, to "tone down" their pro-life convictions, etc?  To be blunt, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops stands as a stark example of a Catholic organization that has literally sold its soul for federal dollars.  No other organization, should it start lusting after federal dollars, will be immune from that temptation.  Why are they literally courting disaster?

These pregnancy centers, if they go after federal grants, will be digging their own graves.  They will literally place themselves in a position of having to muzzle and compromise their beliefs.  They will also find themselves in the unenviable position of benefiting from the immoral confiscation of the hard-earned money of US citizens.  They need to abandon these foolish and fatal endeavors.

NARAL Gets Another Smack-Down In Baltimore

At first, when I saw this piece in Baltimore's Catholic Review, I thought I was reading old news.  After all, didn't a court already strike down the NARAL-orchestrated Baltimore ordinance that would have ordered pregnancy centers to promote abortion?  Then I looked again at my 2011 post.  At that time, a US District Court struck down the law.  A few days ago, it was the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit that upheld the 2009 ruling.  That means that the local pro-aborts must have appealed the District Court ruling only to be spanked again.

Thanks be to God in defending crisis pregnancy centers.  Also thanks is due to the Becket Fund and other lawyers who represented the Greater Baltimore Center for Pregnancy Concerns.

Baltimore City Council Draws Long Knives For Pro-Life Groups

Last month the Montgomery County Council gave up its ridiculous attempt to force gag regulations on the pro-life pregnancy centers in the county.  Mind you, they had to endure a few legal smack-downs and they witnessed what was happening to other localities across the nation that attempted to follow the NARAL playbook.

It seems that the City of Baltimore is being just a bit more stubborn and obtuse than their compatriots of Montgomery County.  In their ongoing quest to satisfy their sources of money, the Baltimore City Council has demanded that four pro-life organizations surrender their private files to their viewing. It filed a subpoena for that purpose.  Alliance Defending Freedom has come to the aid of these pro-life groups with a motion to quash the subpoena.  The four pro-life groups being threatened are: Heartbeat International, Care Net, National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, and the Vitae Foundation.

It is election time in Maryland.  The pro-aborts on the City Council probably want to convince their puppet masters that they deserve to be kept on the Council.  Will the citizens of Baltimore City finally wake up and give them their walking papers?  Even if not, we hope that the council will acknowledge what has been happening with that legislation nation-wide and, as did their Montgomery County counterparts, decide to give it a rest.

Two Legal Victories - One National, One Local

Both are significant to us, particularly to those who labor in pro-life arenas.  First, I'll relay the national news.

The last nail has been pounded into the coffin of the 28-year-old case known as NOW vs Scheidler.  This case has been to the Supreme Court three times - all three times the rulings have been in Scheidler's favor.  The Thomas More Society has been assisting Scheidler all along and they have a report.  They've also racked up some legal costs during these past two decades.  A few days ago, the Seventh Circuit Court ruled that the plaintiffs must cover the costs that had been awarded to the defendants - a little over $63k.

This one is definitely closer to home, but still has much national impact on the pro-life effort.  In 2009, the Montgomery County Council (many of the members effectively owned by NARAL) passed a NARAL-inspired piece of unconstitutional legislation aimed solely at crippling the efforts of pro-life pregnancy centers.  In December 2009 I spent much time blogging about the hearings.  One of the pregnancy centers, Centro Tepeyak of Silver Spring, took the lead in filing legal challenge.  They were assisted by Alliance Defending Freedom.  As in the Scheidler case above, several court rulings had been decided in favor of the pro-life side.  Finally Montgomery County saw the light, realized it just couldn't win and decided to give up its obviously futile effort.

By the way - in reference to the Montgomery County affair, I remind all Montgomery County citizens that every one of these council members is up for reelection this November.  Since so many of them show a disdain for the Constitution that they promised to uphold, it's time to give them their pink slips next Election Day.

Montgomery County CPC Gag Law Killed In Its Entirety

I remember the deliberations over this in 2009 (I blogged on it then).  It was unconstitutional and it was clear that the majority of the Montgomery County Council were simply doing the bidding of their sugar-daddies and money bags.  This move was literally out of a NARAL playbook (and I have a copy of it, too!).

Comes now the news (from LifeNews) that a federal court today put the final kibosh on it.  The ruling notes that the bill was an affront against the First Amendment.

Congratulations and thanks to the Centro Tepeyak Pregnancy Center, along with Alliance Defending Freedom.  They were the lead plaintiff in this case and they - and all of us - prevailed.  Of course this can only have good ramifications for other localities that are fighting this NARAL-spawned poison.

Centro Tepeyak Versus Montgomery County

In December of 2009 I posted on hearings held in Montgomery County as the County Council members prepared to do the bidding of their NARAL funders with the passage of the NARAL-orchestrated legislative initiative to hamper the work of the pro-life pregnancy centers.  In Baltimore and Montgomery County the measure passed, but in both cases courts issued injunctions preventing implementation until further review.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit will be reviewing the matter of Centro Tepeyak versus Montgomery County.  (See the docket here)  ADF attorneys will be presenting arguments in Richmond tomorrow (Thursday Dec 6).  Similar measures passed in other areas (again, orchestrated by NARAL) have been declared unconstitutional.  Please pray for a similar outcome here.

Montgomery County CPC Rule - Unconstitutional!

Not all court rulings last week were nonsensical!  Last week the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw the Montgomery County cpc "disclaimer" rule into the dung heap where it belongs.

The Montgomery County Council, following the script dictated to them by NARAL, tried to violate the free-speech rights of pro-life volunteers by passing legislation - literally out of the NARAL playbook.  The first hearings were conducted in December 2009.  I reported extensively on them at that time, using many video and audio clips of the same.  Since over half of the council members at that time were NARAL-endorsed, no  one really doubted that the measure would pass.

Centro Tepeyak Pregnancy Center in Silver Spring MD took the lead in taking the thing to court.  Their efforts paid off.  By the way, the same ordinance passed in Baltimore City also went down in flames.

As you read the Post blog piece, note some of the comments.  Even those who consider themselves "pro-choice" understand the draconian nature of what the local legislatures tried to do.  Hopefully they'll think things through some more and will come to realize that the pro-baby-murder tyrannical mindset can't help but manifest itself in other facets of life and human interactions.

Yoest-Keenan Debate On The Texas Ultrasound Bill

Last week the Fifth Circuit Court upheld the new Texas ultrasound bill that requires that a woman contemplating abortion be told what the sonograms of their babies reveal.  Abortionists already take sonograms of the babies so that they can plan the procedure and, most importantly, know how to charge the mother for the abortion.  However, many refuse to let the woman actually see the sonogram picture of her baby.  Why?  Because many, if not most women who see that picture opt against the abortion.

Well, the NARAL and Planned Parenthood types have now bunched their undies because they understand (rightly) that the number of baby-murders will drop in Texas, along with their cash intake.  Last week, Charmaine Yoest, president of Americans United for Life and Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL, appeared together on Fox News Channel to have a brief debate on the matter.  That and LifeNews' analysis is here.  However, if you cannnot see the embedded video of the debate on the LifeNews page, click here.

A few things to note about NARAL's conniption fit here:
  1. Recall that NARAL has been spearheading a campaign for the past few years to silence pro-life pregancy centers, claiming that the pro-life centers "offer misleading information".  They claim that they want the women to "have correct medical information".  In Maryland, Baltimore City and Montgomery County had their measures enacted; fortunately, the courts have stymied the measures on constitutional grounds.  So after trying to accuse pro-lifers of not providing "accurate medical information", they're having hissies over abortionists having to provide - accurate medical information?
  2. Keenan says the law "forces a woman to have an ultrasound against her will".  That's a flat-out lie.  A woman undergoing an abortion has an ultrasound taken as a routine part of the procedure.  The law merely requires that she be informed of the results of the ultrasound.  Throughout the debate, she repeats that line like a mantra.  That's all she apparently can think to say - and it's a lie to boot.
  3. NARAL's antipathy to ultrasounds is understandable.  One of their founders was the late Dr Bernard Nathanson.  While he was in their camp, he was responsible for thousands of abortions, and helped the pro-abortion crowd come up with the slogan "pro-choice".  However, all that happened before the advent of ultrasound machines.  When Nathanson saw some ultrasounds, and one of an abortion in progress, he became convinced of the humanity of the unborn baby.  He did a 180-degree turnaround and became a staunch pro-life advocate (and a convert to Catholicism).

Ms Block's Continuing Series On The CCHD

As promised, I now link to her latest installment.  My comment on her piece will be more of an addendum.  For that, I will hearken back to an earlier post from last year, as we were fighting off the attempt by NARAL to silence pro-life pregnancy centers.

Ms Block makes mention of the Midwest Academy.  It was Michael Voris' Vortex that revealed that Midwest Academy itself was a CCHD grant recipient.  I think it's not too much of a stretch to say that the CCHD helped fund efforts (albeit unwittingly, I hope) to hobble pro-life pregnancy centers and thus to aid and abet baby-murder.

NARAL: Foiled Again By That Pesky First Amendment!

The liberal lemmings who occupy the New York City Council had passed Local Law 17, which was just a NYC version of the cpc gag law scripted by NARAL.  Of course Mayor Bloomberg signed it, even though he admitted it was unconstitutional.

You will recall that during this past year, the same measure was passed in Baltimore City and Montgomery County.  In both localities, the measure was struck down as being an undue infringement on the First Amendment rights of the pro-life centers and their directors/staff.

Today history has repeated itself in New York City.  I won't repeat the entire article here, but I will congratulate the Alliance Defense Fund and the American Center for Law and Justice, who provided crucial help to the New York pro-life centers.

Major Victory For Montgomery County Pregnancy Centers!

The Alliance Defense Fund is rendering crucial assistance to pro-life pregnancy centers by arguing for the plaintiffs in Centro Tepeyak v. Montgomery County.  In light of the victory won by Baltimore pregnancy centers, a federal court has ordered that the onorous regulation be put on hold.  Read the ADF press release here.

We too believe that the pregnancy centers will prevail against this ludicrous, NARAL-orchestrated farce that was put in place by pro-abortion advocates simply to ensure that blood money flows into the coffers of abortionists.  Thanks be to God, and let's soldier on!

Note: For some background on this matter, check out this blog's archives from December 1, 2009 onward.

Here are some posts regarding the ruling pertaining to Baltimore City:

Yoo Hoo! Montgomery County Council! Wakey-Wakey!

To the Montgomery County Council.  In December 2009, you passed your version of the Pro-Life Pregnancy Center Strangulation Bill.  Although you are undoubtedly playing cool and coy, you have been served notice of what the pro-life lawyers had tried to tell you during the hearings - that the measure is patently unconstitutional, a blatant violation of the First Amendment.

A few days ago, Judge Marvin Garbis threw Baltimore's regulations into the legislative dung heap for that very reason.  With the kind permission of Mr. John Naughton, I'm going to reproduce his letter to you below.  As the letter and my following commentary are lengthy, I'll put the break now.

Baltimore Anti-Pregnancy Center Law Declared Unconstitutional

From today's Christian Newswire, we read that the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland found the Baltimore City law requiring signage in pro-life pregnancy centers to be unconstitutional.  The case is Archbishop of Baltimore et al. v. City of Baltimore et al.  In his opinion, Judge Garbis stated "the Government cannot, consistent with the First Amendment, require a 'pro-life' pregnancy-related service center to post a sign as would be required by the Ordinance."  He also referred to the ordinance as "viewpoint-based discrimination".

A similar suit is in progress regarding the ordinance as it was enacted in Montgomery County last year.  Today Judge Garbis's ruling bodes well for the Montgomery County pregnancy centers, as well as pregnancy centers all over the country.  We illustrated last year how these ordinances were part of a coordinated campaign by NARAL to stifle the pregnancy centers so that abortionists' blood-money revenue wouldn't dry up.

Congratulations To The Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers!

We pro-life folks have long been aware, and grateful, for the yeoman's work that our pregnancy centers do in terms of extending real assistance to moms-to-be who find themselves in dire straits.  Many children are alive today who otherwise wouldn't be without the cpcs, and there would also be that many more profoundly wounded women.

Predictably, the so-called "pro-choice" lemmings aren't so grateful to you in the pregnancy centers, for every woman whom you assist means to them a reduction in revenues from baby-murder.  Last December we saw a concerted attack on the Montgomery County MD centers (look back in this blog's December archives for that saga) and earlier, such an attack took place in Baltimore.  These are being replicated throughout the United States, inspired in no small part by NARAL's "Unmasking Fake Clinics" game plan.

We've become aware of another back-handed compliment that the pro-death cartel has paid to the pro-life pregnancy centers.  They are watching you!  Oh, yes indeedy!  They even have a website dedicated to tracking you!  Uh-oh!!  What is this site?  Drum roll, please!!

Take a look at it.  The way they parrot the NARAL buzz words is so pathetic it's funny!  "Fake clinics", "reproductive justice", "deceptive tactics", etc, they're all there.  CPC volunteers, look under "known clinics".  If you find yours there, consider yourselves honored!

Attacks on Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers Now On Federal Level

As we were engaged last December in the struggle to protect pro-life pregnancy centers in Montgomery County Maryland, we learned that the County Council attack was simply part of a larger plot by NARAL to cripple and strangle the pregnancy centers.  Most of the Montgomery County Council is in the back pockets of NARAL and NOW (one, Duchy Trachtenberg, has been or is, NOW Maryland president).

This sort of thing was also successfully tried in Baltimore, and has been attempted in other localities throughout the United States.  It's right out of NARAL's booklet called "Unmasking Fake Clinics - A Step by Step Guide".  And yes, I have a copy!

Now we hear that they are trying this sort of stunt on the Federal level.  Read the Lifesite News article.  These pro-aborts most likely think that with the current leadership in Congress and with the Messiah Most Miserable occupying the White House, they have a window of opportunity and want to seize it.  Perhaps they understandably fear that such window might close after the November 2010 elections.  At any rate, this must be stopped.

The House bill number is H.R. 2478, entitled "Stop Deceptive Advertising in Women's Services Act" (These people are utterly lacking in originality - but that's the least of their problems).  Its two lead sponsors are U.S. Rep. Maloney (D-NY) and Sen. Menendez (D-NJ).  Menendez is "catholyc", by the way.

When this action was being fought in Montgomery County, I reported on that quite extensively during last December and January.  In particular, I posted excerpts from the public Council hearings on this blog,  I urge you to review these posts to get some idea of the nature of this issue.

Centro Tepeyac Sues Montgomery County Over CPC Strangulation Bill

With assistance from the Alliance Defense Fund, Centro Tepeyac Pregnancy Center of Silver Spring filed suit on account of the pregnancy center "regulation" bill that the Montogmery County Council passed several months ago by a 7-2 vote.  Lifenews relates more detail on the suit.

The council held a public hearing on December 1, 2009.  I attended it and recorded it.  Several snippets of that recording are posted on this blog.  I invite you to go back and review the clips and related information.

As additional developments become known to me, I will post them here.  Please pray that truth and justice prevail, and that the pregnancy centers can save babies and mothers unfettered by the pro-death elements within our government.

Baltimore Archdiocese Suing the City Over Its Pregnancy Center Strangulation Bill

On Monday, March 28, the Archdiocese of Baltimore filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Baltimore, rightly claiming that the regulation of pro-life pregnancy centers violates the rights of church members to freedom of speech and religion.  The Archdiocese is doing the proper and courageous thing.  I urge all to read the Baltimore Sun article.

Of course Planned Parenthood would voice "disappointment" with the lawsuit, since they stand to gain financially through the blood of more babies.  We hope that the Archdiocese of Washington will find the courage to do something similar and to take on Montgomery County for its onorous regulations against pro-life pregnancy centers.
