Mid-term elections are upon us, and already some Catholics who imagine themselves to be oh-so-pure are talking about abstention from these elections. I've never beheld such a smug group of people actually thinking that their shallow self-righteousness is actually a virtue. I have blogged many times about this in the past, including why I believe that Catholic morality actually commands that we cast our vote for the candidate who will at least due less harm than his/her opponent.
Chris Jackson, who writes Hiraeth In Exile, has an excellent treatment of the subject matter. While I haven't looked at the Michael Matt podcast myself, what Jackson says about the need for Catholics to vote, even if none of the candidates is eligible for canonization, is on the mark. It is entitled "Political Surrender Is Not A Catholic Virtue". Please read it and pass it around.
When Republicans get blown out in November (and they will), it won't be because of Trad, Inc. Trump utterly betrayed the base and is actively protecting pedophiles. I'll be staying at home this time.
