Why Is A Pederast Bishop Being Honored?

I agree with my friens at Catholic Citizens of Illinois that it is an utter travesty that the Cathedral of St. John is honoring former Archbishop Rembert Weakland by featuring a bronze statue of him along with various Saints as though he's a protector of children.  According to this report, nothing could be further from the truth - per Weakland's own written memoirs!

This is nothing less than a slap in the face, a spit in the eye, salt in the wounds of every boy who has been harmed either by Weakland himself or by the priests for whom he covered up.  Can you just imagine the human carnage wrecked by these predators, not only upon the boys but upon their families and those who did come to their defense?

Rembert Weakland - God Have Mercy On His Soul

Today we received news that Archbishop Rembert Weakland, former prelate of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, died early this morning.  The legacy he left is one of damage to the Faith and damage to many victims of sexual abuse.  In fact, not only did he cover up for abuse perpetrated by other priests, but he himself was guilty of vile homosexual crimes.

For all the damage that he wreaked upon the church, it appears that he did not suffer any consequence that is commensurate with his crimes on this side of the grave.  But now he is on the other side and he had to face Our Lord. 

It is the same Lord that each and every one of us will face sooner or later.  We all will be called to account for what we did and didn't do.  Some of us will be called to greater account than others, owing not only to greater responsibility but also greater gifts.  The fullness of Holy Orders is one such gift that comes with great accountability.

Let us pray that God have mercy on his soul.  Let us pray that in his final moments, that Weakland came to final repentance.  Let us also take lessons from this and be mindful of the states of our own souls at all times.

Pope Francis To Consecrate World To The Immaculate Heart Of Mary

Tomorrow is the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima.  That Mass would be celebrated were tomorrow not Sunday.  The Holy Father will consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  I think it very good and pleasing to both Our Lord and Our Lady that this consecration is occurring.  However, one thing needs to be crystal clear.

What will happen tomorrow is not the fulfillment of Our Lady of Fatima's request, as relayed by the three children.  Our Lady of Fatima was very clear and specific.  There are two facets to her request for consecration that are, in some circles, deliberately obfuscated.  They are:

1. The request of Our Lady that Russia, by name, be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart
2. This consecration must be done in union with bishops of the world

Neither requirement has been met.  Many fault the various pontiffs for not mentioning Russia.  I myself was one of that number.  I'm beginning to believe though, that the stumbling block lies with the second facet.  If any of us has been paying attention to church affairs, we know that some bishops have been downright cantankerous regarding matters of fealty to the Holy Father and of Catholic spirituality.  Think "Bernardin, Weakland, Gumbleton", etc.  I think you get the picture.  Getting the current collection of bishops to unite in this consecration would be akin to herding cats - although I think the cats would be more reasonable to be frank.

This is pure conjecture on my part, but could it be that the pontiffs have demurred from mentioning Russia because they couldn't get the bishops to unite with them without causing a major ruckus?  Perhaps they didn't mention Russia as Our Lady requested to signal that they found it impossible to comply.

All this should do is cause each and every one of us to fulfill Our Lady of Fatima's request to the church at large: daily Rosary, scapular usage, First Saturday devotions.  These times demand it, if nothing else.

The USCCB And Pogo

That is the title of an article written by my friend and Catholic Media Coalition colleague, Jim Fritz of Defenders of the Faith (headquartered in West Virginia).  Now follows the article...

Many readers will remember the famous quotation from an animal character named Pogo by cartoonist Walt Kelly back in the 1950s, “We have met the enemy and they are us.”  Set in the Okefenokee Swamp of the southeastern United States, the strip often engaged in social and political satire through the adventures of its anthropomorphic funny animal characters. As stated by one biographer of Kelly, “It perfectly sums up his attitude towards the foibles of mankind and the nature of the human condition.” There is no need to sally forth, for it remains true that those things which make us human are, curiously enough, always close at hand. Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small flags waving and tinny blast on tiny trumpets, we shall meet the enemy, and not only may he be ours, but he may be us.

Perhaps the U,S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has finally realized that the enemy is the bishops themselves.  After decades of the bishops supporting liberal social policies, they must now realize who the real enemy is. During the last election, Catholics voted for Obama by 54 percent. The bishops promoted this by (1) their support of the health care law which is now resulting in mandates requiring religious employers to pay insurance coverage of birth control and abortifacients; (2) ignoring canon 915; and, (3) issuing a ridiculous, incorrect, and totally useless document titled, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.

When did this all begin? 

The Second Vatican Council (also known as Vatican II) addressed relations between the Roman Catholic Church and the modern world. It opened under Pope John XXIII in 1962 and closed under Pope Paul VI in 1965. No one can really state that Vatican ll caused the decline of the Catholic Church; however, the fifty years since the end of Vatican ll have been a disaster for the Church. The number of priests has greatly declined even as the population has increased. The religious women have had an even greater decrease in numbers and those who are left have drifted so far from Church teaching they are now not even recognizable as nuns - especially those who sport business suits and mannish haircuts. Catholic schools have closed by the hundreds, and many parents refuse to send their children to those that remain open. Only a handful of Catholic colleges can really be classified as Catholic. After Notre Dame awarded an honorary law degree to Barack Obama it was renamed “Notre Shame” by true Catholics and even some Protestants. There are currently Pro-Homosexual (Pride) Clubs at 107 Catholic Colleges. Bankruptcies have occurred in eight dioceses due to the sexual abuse scandal. And the list goes on and on and on.
