Vatican's Progressive Mafia Takes Out Another Good Bishop

I join with my blogging colleagues Les Femmes and Tenth Crusade in looking askance upon the forced resignation of Archbishop John Nienstedt as shepherd of Minneapolis/St. Paul.  I suppose we can now ask "who's next?"  We know the long knives are drawn for Archbishop Cordileone.  Or maybe it will be Vasa or Olmsted - or maybe Archbishop Athanasius Schneider or Cardinals Pell, Muller or Brandmuller.

Make no mistake about it.  The progressive mafia (hint: gang of nine and their allies) are mowing them down right and left.

Three Admirable Bishops

Archbishop John Nienstedt of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis/St Paul has been exonerated of charges of sexual abuse.  The local district attorney determined that there was "insufficient evidence" to corroborate the charges leveled against him.   He had stepped down during the investigation but will now resume duties.

Bishop Robert Vasa of the Diocese of Santa Rosa defended a presentation given by a former gay porn star who is now Catholic.  Joseph Sciambra spoke the truth quite plainly when he declared that homosexual acts are "aberrations of nature".  He's right and Bishop Vasa is correct to defend him.

In England, Bishop Philip Egan of the Diocese of Portsmouth, in an interview said that it is an act of mercy to deny Holy Communion to those supporting abortion and sodomy.  In his words,  "It is done with the hope and prayer that that person can be wooed back into full communion with the Church.  Nobody is forced to be Catholic. We’re called by Christ and He’s chosen us, it’s a free choice. We live under the word of God. It’s not my truth, its God’s truth. One would hope that in that case it would encourage someone to come back to seek communion with the Lord with the truth and say I’m sorry I got lost.”

Pray for these bishops and pray that more of their brothers will follow their examples.

Gay-Pandering Priest Tells His Bishop To Resign

The renegade priest is Father Michael Tegeder of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis.  Archbishop John Nienstedt shepherds that local church.  His Excellency supported the effort to uphold traditional marriage in Minnesota.  As in Maryland, that measure failed.

Father Tedeger opposed the efforts to uphold God-ordained marriage.  Now he has called upon the Archbishop to resign, to take that "under prayerful consideration".  Understand this; the dissident renegade priest is violating his priestly vow of obedience by rebuking his bishop for acting like the Catholic bishop that he is.  Of course he was violating that vow all during the effort, and giving scandal to his parish in the meantime.

If there's one thing that I'd suggest to the Archbishop, it's that he consider removing the faculties of this renegade priest for the good of all - including Father Tegeder.  (Note: if that happens in the future, I will come back to this post and put the word "father" in quotes since he won't be able to hold himself as a priest).

Archbishop John Nienstedt Obeys Canon 915

First, thanks to American Papist for the tip on this one.

Archbishop John Nienstedt of the Archdiocese of St Paul-Minneapolis denied Holy Communion to 25 "rainbow sash" types who were protesting the Church's stance on the sanctity of marriage.  I urge you not only to read the full article, but to take the suggested action to voice support for the archbishop.  Already one of his priests acted to undermine his authority by giving Communion afterwards to the protesters.

One can only imagine that the Archbishop will suffer additional fallout, and I regret pointing out that some of the opposition will come from some of his brother bishops who should know better.

Archbishop Nienstedt Stands For True Marriage

Archbishop John Nienstedt of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis is sending DVDs to the homes of area Catholics to urge support for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Minnesota.  Sane and sensible Catholics applaud the Archbishop for his defense of marriage and family.

Then there are the other types of Catholics.  A bunch of them have developed a website called "returnthedvd".  Says one such person (as quoted in the Star/Tribune), "We just disagree that this is a priority. It's really not a matter we should be about as compassionate Christians. I think we should stress inclusiveness and the poor and people in need."

Flashback to yesterday's post about the "Minions Of The Nanny State".  What was one key point?  It's that these so-called "social justice" types want to cloak their deadly dissent in a veneer of "compassion", etc.  I say their dissent is deadly because, if unchecked, it will grease the slippery slopes towards eternal damnation for those foolish enough to drink their kool-aid.

One such dissident is Lucinda Naylor, who is the former artist in residence at the Basilica of St Mary in that diocese.  We read in the Minnesota Independent that she plans to create a sculpture made of the returned dvd's - to create a message of "creativity and hope"!  Doesn't that sound so lovely?

As noted, she is the former artist in residence at the Basilica.  She has been suspended from her position as a result of her public dissidence.  Kudus for Archbishop Nienstedt.  Let us thank him for his courage as we pray for Ms Naylor and her equally misguided companions, that they may repent of their sins of public disobedience to Christ and His Teachings.
