More On How/If A Catholic Should Vote

This past Sunday I wrote a post entitled Voting and the Principle of Double Effect.  It was also published on Spero Forum.  It was occasioned by an interview between Rebecca Desirio and Michael Voris on Blogtalk Radio.  I detailed all that in my previous post.

Rebecca got wind of my post and contacted me.  We exchanged some emails.  Then on August 21st she had Michael back on her show; they revisited the question of a Catholic vote for Romney (understanding of course that a Catholic vote for Obama would be hideous beyond description and God have mercy on those Catholics who do vote for Obama).  The podcast is here.  At 2:33 she starts to describe our exchange.  He noticed that I cited Msgr William Smith (and I believe I described him fully in the email) - more on him in a few minutes.

Voting And The Principle Of Double Effect

On Thursday, August 15 2012, BlogTalk Radio had a program called Salve Regina.  I’ve never listened to it before, but decided to do so when I learned that Michael Voris of ChurchMilitantTV would be a guest and that Catholics in political life would be discussed.  The podcast is here; please listen.

I agree with him that there has been much degradation in society today, that our departure from our Christian roots has been extensive and pervasive.  I don’t share his opinion that the spiral is irreversible (stated at the 17:00 mark).  It will be if we adopt this opinion as our own for then we will be engaged with what can be called a “self-fulfilling prophesy”.   At the 17:20 mark he starts to ask the question, “where do we go from here?”.
