Voters' Remorse In Detroit?

Yesterday Detroit City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson called upon the Messiah Most Miserable to "bring home the bacon" (her words, not mine) and bail out Detroit.  Citing the sterling example set by Jimmy Carter (author of his own disastrous presidency), she reminded her Dear Leader that there "ought to be a quid pro quo" since the Detroit population (as a whole) supported Obama last month.

Ms Watson (and other Obama voters), did you really think Obama gives a rat's rump about you?  No!  He used you, and your misguided lust for free-bees!  I hope the blinders are falling from your eyes; of course the sensation of light will be strange to eyes that have been willfully blinded for so long.  I have four little words for you and your ilk:

It seems you are experiencing a bit of voters' remorse.  Had you known on Nov 1 what you know now, would you have voted for Obama?

In the wake of the election, there has been a lot of silly talk coming from some GOP wonks.  They claim that in order to win future elections, that the GOP must scuttle its positions on abortion, gay "marriage", etc.  Given that millions of Republicans stayed away from the polls when Mitt Romney (who is no lion regarding traditional morality) was running, their claim is silly on its face.  Even Ann Coulter seems to be swallowing the kool-aid.

Evangelicals issued their own warning to RINO establishment in this Christian Post piece.  Penny Nance's part appears towards the end.  I echo its sentiments.

Three Million Stayed Home

That's the number of Republicans who did not darken the doors of their polling places this past Tuesday.  Had they done so, things might be a bit different now.  On CNSNews, Brent Bozell opined that "it should have been a landslide for Romney had he embraced a truly conservative agenda."  I too regret that the GOP did not select a true pro-life conservative.  But the attitude of those who stayed home because Romney wasn't quite what they wanted can only be described as childish at best.  They wouldn't brook someone who wasn't a staunch conservative, so instead they sat by and let a truly rabid pro-abortion zealot retain his death-grip on the country.  I've spoken about this silly mindset before, both here and on Facebook.  So to those "conservatives" who stayed away from the polls in a self-righteous huff, you are - in good measure - to blame for what happened.  Those of you who did so in the name of "being pro-life" may well have innocent blood on your hands as you could have at least reduced the slaughter that will now occur unchecked.

Evil People Prop Up Evil Leaders

That is the main theme of a commentary I read about last night's election fiasco.  I've heard that thought expressed in another way: "In a democracy, the people elect the leaders they deserve".  There are those who voted for Obama because they wanted free healthcare/cellphone/education/etc.  Of course, nothing is free; someone has to pay for it.  Wanna know who that "someone" is?  Go look in the mirror.  But as Lady Margaret Thatcher said, "the trouble with socialism is that you will run out of other people's money to spend".  But those indifferent and even disobedient to God will lack the wisdom and foresight to understand basic common sense, let alone economics.  The fallout will hit them as much as anyone else.

Progressive Follies - The Gifts That Keep On Giving

From the same mindset that brought us the less-than-charming banner in the previous post, we have this less-than-lovely exhortation from Cher and Kathy Griffin.  At the 2:35 mark, while exhorting us to throw pro-life candidates to the wayside, Griffin calls us "bitches".  I suppose we should just expect such verbal abuse after having our intelligence insulted with the drivel that they think will win us to their side.  Click here if you can't see embedded video, but then read below the clip.



This article from LifeSiteNews offers a reasonable alternative to the snarky mindsets evident in the progressives.  It simply suggests "ladies, let's take our dignity to the voting booth."  We're not sexists; the same applies to gentlemen as well.

Unions: Hard At Work To Re-elect Obama

The labor unions, aka big labor, are hard at work to make sure their community-organizing buddy wins re-election.  You labor types will be proud of them as the unions do what they do best.  We have some stories to that effect that are guaranteed to bring a tear to your eyes.

First story!  In Toledo, Ohio, four men were caught using a truck registered to the Sheet Metal Workers International Association to transport Romney/Ryan yard signs that had been stolen the night before from the lawns of Romney supporters.  Police were alerted by some of these residents who witnessed the thefts.  Three of those arrested are employees of SWMIA Local 33.  As one individual puts it, it will be interesting to see if they were being paid by the union to commit those thefts.

Second story!  SEIU workers are volunteering for the Obama campaign.  This woman says she has talked to many folks to ask them to vote for Obama.  And apparently they continue to knock on doors even as I write this.  They are all willing and enthusiastic volunteers!  Or..are they?

It appears that some of these volunteers aren't all that willing.  Look at this interview done by the Daily Caller.  Knowing the kinds of stunts that SEIU has pulled in the past (most notably the thuggery during town halls during the Obamacare deliberations), who can put it past them?

Obama Equates Voting With Revenge

In keeping with the "toned down rhetoric" exemplified by the Obama-favoring ads I've been posting for your review, the Messiah Most Miserable advised rally attendees that "voting is the best revenge."  This occurred yesterday in Springfield, OH.

So he equates voting with revenge?  I've heard voting described as "act of patriotism", "love of country", "civic duty", "right won by the blood of soldiers", etc.  But ... revenge?  Pray tell, revenge upon whom??

More On "Lesser Of Two Evils" Voting

Last week I posted a warning to those Christian and pro-life people who are contemplating abstention from the vote (or voting for 3rd-party candidates) because Mitt Romney's pro-life credentials are iffy at best.  Please read it and the two posts to which it links for relevant information, as I won't take the time to rehash everything here.

In one of those posts I outlined the Catholic moral principle of double effect.  In it I outlined how I believe a vote for Romney fulfills the double effect criteria, but also how "3rd-party" or abstention fails that criteria.  I also reiterated that I do not believe that Mitt Romney is the ideal pro-life candidate.  However, when someone asked me if Romney was an acceptable alternative to Obama, I replied that he's the only alternative to Obama.

And who uttered that dire warning?  The United Nations!  Well, I guess that wraps it up, doesn't it?  Why, if the UN takes the liberty to butt in on our internal affairs, why...why, they must be correct, right?

Cdl Dolan Snubbed Judie Brown But Dined With Obama

There are times when I think I heard it all, when it comes to priorities of some prelates which can only be called "whacked out".  Those times generally don't last too long for I invariably am taken aback by new whoppers (ht - Pewsitter).  That happened again as I read Judie Brown's blog piece today.

Judie Brown, as most in the pro-life community know, is founder and president of American Life League, a leading Catholic and pro-life organization.  In her article today, she relates how then-bishop Timothy Dolan backed out on an invitation by Pro-Life Wisconsin to give the invocation at their annual banquet in 2009.  Why did he do that?  Because Ms. Brown was to be the keynote speaker.

MD Elections - Ballot Question 5

The Democrats, who have for many decades controlled the Maryland legislatures, have no qualms whatsoever about doing what it takes to advance the Party of Death on both the state levels and federal levels.  That includes gerrymandering the legislative district boundaries.  My first recollection of that was in 1994, when they had split MD district 15 into two districts: 15 & 39.  One of the not-so-secret reasons was to give MD representative Gene Counihan his chance to be a state senator without displacing Larry Leventhal.  Well, that was 1994, when the GOP had a massive nationwide victory, owing to Clinton's abject failures.  The MD plan backfired and both Counihan and Leventhal lost to Republicans.  I had been in district 15 until I was "remapped" into 39.

For many decades I was also in Maryland's Congressional District 8, misrepresented by pro-abortion Connie Morella.  Indeed, she had voted like a Democrat more than a Republican; she was officially Republican.  The MD Democrats remapped the Congressional lines, essentially stabbing their ally in the back; the lines were redrawn to limit District 8 to areas of large Democratic registration; areas of less Democrat populations were plopped either in District 6 or 4.  I found myself in District 4; that stretched from Montgomery Village south into Oxon Hill.  On a map it looked like an earthworm.  This time their plan worked; Morella lost that election to Chris Van Hollen.  Morella was such a pro-abortion RINO that I didn't shed too many tears over that election outcome.

But now the federal boundaries have been redrawn again.  Let's face it; they're now targeting Roscoe Bartlett, the long-time real Republican who has been representing western Maryland quite well for some time now.  The courts have upheld the maps, so we petitioned the scheme to the ballot.

To understand what I'm talking about, you'll have to see it for yourself - so here it is from the MD Dept of Planning site.  Isn't it a mess?  I'll point out some of the more ludicrous highlights.  The lavender thing is District 8.  It is literally running from the DC border to the PA border.  They've taken most of Frederic County and some of Carroll County, both conservative areas from Bartlett and coupled them with the southern half of Montgomery County, a very populated and uber-liberal area of the state.  That southern area is joined to the northern area by a strip that can't be more than a few miles wide.  To complete the effect of removing conservative voters from District 6, they extended it down to the western part of Montgomery County to diffuse the conservative votes that remain to Bartlett.  So once again I've been remapped to another district.  The bright side is that for once I don't have to be ashamed of my Congressional representative, but I digress.

Looking at Prince George's and Anne Arundel Counties we see stranger configurations.  That pink are is District 5.  The northern part of that district is surrounded by District 4 which is depicted in blue.  Now look in the Baltimore area.  See how four districts twist and wind and interweave with each other.  I fail to discern any rhyme or reason there; not being up on Baltimore-area politics, I don't know what the goal of that is.  The light green area is District 3.  It starts in eastern Montgomery County and contorts its way to southern Harford County.  That is beyond weird.

Important caveat: What you thought your district was may no longer be the case.  Use the "find district by address" feature in the MD Planning website to ascertain your Congressional district.

We will get rid of this convoluted mess only by voting against Question 5.  We need districts drawn using sane geographical boundaries, regardless of the political party registration of the residents of the various districts.

MD Elections - Ballot Question 4

Besides the all-important presidential election, there are a number of crucial matters that are specific to the State of Maryland.  Among these are four "general referendum" questions.  I will deal with these in the order in which they'll appear on our ballot.  This post will deal with Question 4 - the DREAM Act.

As you know (even if you may not accept it), there are a number of matters in this election that deal with intrinsic morality (abortion, homosexual relations, etc).  A Catholic who takes his/her faith seriously, indeed the salvation of his/her soul, will never deviate from the Church's teachings on these matters.  There are other issues that are within the realm of prudential judgment.  Economic issues are an example.  While we adhere to Christ's teaching to care for the poor, good people can and often do disagree on the proper means to do so.  It is even permissible to have such disagreements with Church structures on these matters.

Question 4 is one such matter where intrinsic morality is not in question.  Many good Catholics believe that the DREAM Act is seriously, even fatally flawed.  I myself hold that opinion.  Indeed, I believe this is one example of how the progressive elements in Church bureaucracies can ensnare themselves in imprudent alliances and actions.

Conduct Unbecoming The Vice President Of The United States

Can you just imagine the hoo-ha that would be resounding from the Washington Post, New York Times and other mainstream-lamebrain media outlets if this were a picture of Paul Ryan snuggling up to a woman other than his wife?

The above scene occurred yesterday during a campaign stop in Ohio.  Ladies and gentlemen, if outrage would have ensued if this were a picture of Ryan (and rightly so), how much more should have arisen from such conduct from the current Vice President of the United States?  Bill Clinton, serial womanizer that he was (still is?), at least took some measures to hide his disgraceful conduct.  He showed some shred of shame.  Biden is too much of a fool to have even that much discretion.  Is this the sort of individual who should be "one heartbeat from the presidency"?  Oh - I almost forgot!  Biden is ostensibly a Catholic - one who is old enough to recall the concept of mortal sin.  I suppose I can be forgiven for forgetting that he's Catholic, as apparently he forgot so long ago.

Notice the looks of the two men on either side of Biden.  They're disgusted, and I'd be willing to bet that they'll remember Biden's lecherous behavior on November 6th.  I hope we all do.

How Much Do YOU Care?

Listen closely to yesterday's episode of the Vortex.  He echoes many things I've been saying and thinking throughout the years.  I've seen so many in the pro-life community wax giddy and lyrical how "the polls" indicate that the "nation is becoming pro-life" and "think abortion is wrong".  Such polls I take with copious grains of salt.  Those polls aren't worth the time, effort and money it takes to conduct them.

So many folks, who are decent, claim to be pro-life but don't really make any pro-life concern a real part in their lives.  Oh yes, they might contribute every now and then to a pro-life fundraiser and even attend a gala or two.  Maybe, just maybe, they'll vote pro-life unless somehow they perceive that their "financial interests" would be better-served by a pro-abortion candidate.   And of course they wouldn't think of taking a public stance such as witnessing at an abortion center or writing a letter to the editor or volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center.  In other words, they aren't "pro-life" enough to step out of their comfort zones and make some real long-term commitment to the babies.

If what I just described above sounds too familiar for comfort, I urge you to listen again to the clip.  Go to confession if necessary.  And then begin to step out - even if you don't feel like it.  Join an ongoing pro-life witness in your area (40 Days for Life will soon be starting its Fall 2012 session - look for one in your locality) and stay with it.  While being pro-life means that you carry it into the voting booth, that only occurs every few years.  Pro-life is more - it is being pro-life every day.  Click here if you can't see embedded video.

Voting And The Principle Of Double Effect

On Thursday, August 15 2012, BlogTalk Radio had a program called Salve Regina.  I’ve never listened to it before, but decided to do so when I learned that Michael Voris of ChurchMilitantTV would be a guest and that Catholics in political life would be discussed.  The podcast is here; please listen.

I agree with him that there has been much degradation in society today, that our departure from our Christian roots has been extensive and pervasive.  I don’t share his opinion that the spiral is irreversible (stated at the 17:00 mark).  It will be if we adopt this opinion as our own for then we will be engaged with what can be called a “self-fulfilling prophesy”.   At the 17:20 mark he starts to ask the question, “where do we go from here?”.
