Humanae Vitae 50 Years Later

On July 25, 1968, Humanae Vitae was promulgated by Pope Paul VI.  It is a reiteration of God's timeless teachings regarding marriage, family, and the intrinsic evil of artificial conception.  As you read it, you might have trouble believing it was written 50 years ago, for it predicted great calamities that would befall society if contraception were ever accepted: abortion, degrading of women, rampant divorce, etc.  At that time these evils were not widespread; now they are rampant.

Even 50 years ago, progressives were beginning to insinuate themselves in the priesthood and eventually wormed their way into the Vatican.  When Humanae Vitae was promulgated, they pulled all stops in trying to railroad this encyclical to irrelevance.  To a degree they succeeded for one rarely hears the truths found in Humanae Vitae proclaimed from the pulpit.

That is why I was delighted to hear that Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler TX delivered the homily below and instructed his priests to read it during their masses this past Sunday, the Solemnity of the Birth of John the Baptist.  I pray that not only the Tyler diocese but all diocese across the Catholic world will proclaim this message far and wide.

And The Gobblygoop Continues...

Raymond Arroyo interviewed Cardinal Wuerl a few days ago.  Arroyo asked very straight-forward questions but did not receive replies in kind.  He put forth a herculean effort, but to no avail.  In the face of the verbal tap-dance from the Cardinal, Arroyo exercised much patience.  Please watch and you'll understand why the sin-nod will continue to undermine the faith of millions.

Remedial Catechism Classes Needed For Some SinNod Fathers

Those in desperate need of such instruction include Fathers Lombardi and Rosica.  From Vatican Insider we read talk that, had I uttered this in first grade, would have caused me to flunk religion class and brought scoldings from the Sisters who taught at Notre Dame in Baltimore.  That was way before the place became a feminazi cesspool, but I digress.

Get a load of this pig-vomit: “The teachings of the Church and Catholic theology on issues relating to marriage and the sacraments are not absolutely steadfast".  One might think this was prattle emanating from some left-wing nutso professor at Berkeley, but this spewed forth from the mouth of Father Lombardi, director of the Vatican Press Office.  Does anyone still wish to pretend that the pope bears no responsibility?  He owns this mess.

I believe this SinNod still has quite some time to do serious damage.  It's already off to a roaring start.

Pope Francis: Reject "Culture Of Comfort", Bring Forth Children

As I read his comments today, I was wondering if His Holiness ever took walks in the Woodside area of Silver Spring MD.  (It's the area that's bordered by Spring Street - and Planned Parenthood - to the south).  As we pray and offer Christian witness to those about to go into Planned Parenthood, neighborhood denizens stroll by to thank the clinic escorts for blocking our approach to women.  More often than not, these supporters of baby-murder are walking their dogs!  Rare are the kids that accompany such parents.

(Now that I've said this on the blog, the pro-aborts will trot some babies out just to show us up.  They do read this blog, but I digress).

I would suggest that they - and others - take the Holy Father's words to heart.  Marriage is ordered for the procreation and education of children.  The deliberate frustration of that Divinely-ordained purpose will redound to the harm of all.

Good Bishops Forced To Mop Up Messes Caused By Vatican Misspeak

Archbishop Kaigama of Nigeria, in defending the Church's teaching on the nature of marriage, had to point out that he was NOT contradicting Pope Francis in light of the latter's infamous "who am I to judge?" quip.

Also regarding marriage, specifically in regards to divorce and remarriage, we see in this interview Cardinal Burke (Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura) taking some issue with remarks made by Cardinal Kasper.

Some Progressives Might Be Disappointed In Pope Francis

Yep!  It might mean that the Messiah Most Miserable is no longer "hugely impressed" by His Holiness.  And NARAL might be inclined to rescind its "thank-you" that it gave Pope Francis recently.  Why?

Today in Assisi (today is the feast of St Francis of Assisi) His Holiness told young people in attendance to have the courage to (wait for it!) get married and (progressives, please be seated and have smelling salts handy!) have children!

Presuming that the progressives have recovered from their fainting attacks and/or temper tantrums, we will continue.

He told them to do so despite a culture that emphasizes "individual rights" over family.  Not only that, but he talked of marriage as being a vocation to form one flesh, one life from the two and (Equality MD types, take deep breaths!), male and female.

The Holy Father went on to extol the virtues of priestly celibacy and consecrated virginity.  He said that "virginity for the kingdom of God is not a 'no', but a 'yes'."

In all seriousness, I thank the Holy Father for standing for both marriage and the religious life.  Clearly that's a message that not only those young people but the entire world needs to hear.

Another ADW Pastor Has Dissented From Church Teaching On Homosexuality

This past Tuesday I alerted my readers to the public disregard of Church teaching on homosexuality by the pastor of St John Vianney Church in Prince Frederick MD.  That post elicited quite a few comments, some of them with additional information regarding other problems.   I particularly want to thank the anonymous commenter of 7/5, 9:52PM.  He/she put forth a number of websites, including this one: http://pamshouseblend.firedoglake.com/2009/10/30/proequality-clergy-greatly-outnumber-the-antigay-variety-in-washington-dc/

Granted it is a liberal site, but I've no reason to doubt its accuracy as to its main subject matter: the so-called "Declaration of Religious Support for Marriage Equality".  The names of the signers are arranged alphabetically.  Signing this document is Msgr Jameson, rector of the Cathedral of St Matthew the Apostle.  Consider that this cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Washington: that is, Cardinal Wuerl.

How much more of this pestilence will make its stench known?  To be honest, if it exists we need to know about it so let it come to light.  When it does, though, will the Cardinal move to eradicate the mess?  Both of these priests exercise pastoral ministries at present.  Let us pray that corrective action is undertaken immediately to mitigate any future spiritual damage.

ADW's Deficiency In Teaching

From today's Vortex we hear the Holy Father stating that he and the bishops must own up to the deficiencies in teaching of the Faith, citing in particular the failure to "communicate the rich heritage of Catholic teaching on marriage as a natural institution elevated by Christ to the dignity of a sacrament."

Given the events following the funeral Mass on February 25th, does anyone think that the DC chancery has learned its lesson?  Sadly it seems not.  In contradicting and even punishing Father Guarnizo when he withheld Communion from a practicing lesbian, the chancery not only failed to communicate Catholic teaching regarding authentic natural marriage, but undermined the priest who attempted to communicate the teaching to those obviously misguided individuals.

"Tell the truth!  Make it very clear!  We've had enough silence!"  At least don't submarine the priests who do tell the truth!  Click here if you cannot see embedded video.
