Joni Ernst is running for US Senate from Iowa. She's straight-shootin'! In more ways than one!
(By the way lawyer lap-dogs! Faithful Catholics of MD/DC Inc is NOT an IRS section 501c organization. That means we can say what we dang well please in terms of politics!)

The Vote To Capitulate
The vote to capitulate to tyrannical bullying from the White House was conducted this evening. In both houses, the GOP leaders shamed themselves. I blame them more than I do the Messiah Most Miserable, for now his despotic behavior has been rewarded and affirmed by John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the RINO bunch. Here are the roll calls:
- House of Representatives - Note that both John Boehner and Eric Cantor sold their country down the river. They and the other 85 RINOs need to be given their pink slips in 2014. It's bad enough that Boehner allowed it on the floor, but he added insult to injury in voting for it.
- Senate - Again, McConnell voted for it. The RINOs here must go.
We need representatives who understand the US Constitution and who have courage of their convictions. Of course that presupposes that they have convictions at all. We are seeing our republic devolve to an oligarchy before our very eyes. Will enough of us wake up in time to halt this deterioration?

Maryland Primary Elections - This Tuesday, April 3rd
If you are registered, you should have received your sample ballot. Please look it over carefully. The recent redrawing of US Congressional District maps has changed things considerably. I was quite surprised to learn that parts of St Patrick's parish in the Norbeck area of Rockville are in US Congressional District 6 - a district that was previously isolated to the northwestern part of the state. By the way - that means for the first time in decades, I'm not ashamed of the person currently representing me in Congress.
If you haven't received your sample ballot, go to this site http://www.mdelections.com/, click "verify voter information" and fill in your information. It will tell you your registration name, polling place and your Federal and MD districts.
Let me mention (once again!) before I get started that Faithful Catholics of MD/DC Inc. is NOT a charity as recognized under IRS code 501c. That means I can make any political statement that I please (sorry, liberal lawyers!). I am registered Republican, so I'll only comment on the GOP races; I have no knowledge of the Democrat primary races.
In a previous blog, I mentioned that I was supporting Rick Santorum. Such is still the case. I don't agree with him on all things, but of the current crop he has been the most consistently pro-life. For US Senator (Ben Cardin's seat), I personally recommend Robert Broadus. I've met him several times at Tea Party and other events and believe him to be solid. That doesn't necessarily mean none of the others are solid, just that I have little knowledge of them.
For US Congress, Maryland Right to Life Federal PAC has put out their list of endorsed candidates. They are:

- District 1 - Andy Harris
- District 2 - Nancy Jacobs
- District 5 - Tony O'Donnell
- District 6 - Roscoe Bartlett
- District 8 - Dave Wallace
There is only one GOP candidate running in each of the other three districts; they will be facing pro-abortion incumbents in the general election.
As far as the Board of Education races, I'm not knowledgeable enough about them, save this one tip. You might see that the literature of a given candidate sports an apple, indicating endorsement by your county's Education Association. That will be a local chapter of the National Education Association - a pestilence of which I've written in previous posts. See here, here and here. In other words, I hold that "red apple" as an indication of someone for whom I should not vote!
Ladies and gentlemen, whatever else you do that day, make sure you get yourselves to the polls and vote! Your vote counts!

Obama's Judicial Nominee Liu Is Sacked By Senate
Today the Senate voted against cloture on the filibuster against Godwin Liu, an Obama-nominated candidate for a federal judical seat. The vote occurred mainly on party lines, with Lisa Murkowski being the lone Republican to vote for cloture.
The Lifenews article details the progressive and pro-abortion proclivities of Liu. Apparently he believes the US Constitution is a "living document" but the unborn child is not a "living person".
I rejoice that the Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, found their spines and stared down Dingy Harry.

House Votes To Repeal Obama Hell Scare Bill
As announced yesterday, the House of Representatives held the vote. I am happy to report that they voted to repeal it. The 245-189 vote was mainly along party lines; when the roll call is available, I'll post it. My congratulations to Speaker Boehner and all who worked to bring this repeal bill to the floor.
Now all eyes are on the Senate. Conventional wisdom holds that they will scuttle the bill or vote it down. However, there are Democrats who are up for reelection in 2012. Not all of them are stupid; they realize why many of their colleagues are not included in the 112th Congress. Perhaps they aren't prepared to seal their own professional fates, the whining of Obama and Reid notwithstanding.
This will be interesting to watch. Moreover, this gives us reason for prayer.
Prayers are also needed for one group of individuals who are not entirely happy with the prospect of the Hell Bill being finally overturned? Who might that group be? The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops! Insisting that "health care is a basic human right", they want to "improve and correct serious moral problems in the current law". They don't accept the truth that socialized medicine is a serious moral problem! When will they learn?

Good Bye, Arlen! And Good Riddance!
Pennsylvania had their primary election today. Pro-abortion and one-time-RINO Senator Arlen Specter was rejected by the PA Dems for a sixth term as US Senator. This defeat is seen by many as a slap to Obama, who supported Specter.
Specter enjoyed the dubious distinction of being the only Republican to receive a campaign donation from the now-deceased late-term abortionist George Tiller, a.k.a. Tiller the Killer. Joe Sestak won the Democrat nomination. He'll run against Pat Toomey, who defeated Peg Luksik to become the Republican candidate. Those of decent memory will recall that in 2004's Republican primary, Toomey and Specter faced off. Toomey would have won that primary, had he not been thrown under the bus by then-Senator Rick Santorum and President Bush in favor of Specter.
Specter's defeat was long overdue, but now the air in the Senate hallways will be just a tad bit fresher.

Particularly for Pennsylvanians - Regarding Senate Race
Arlen Specter's seat is up for grabs. Remember him? He's the RINO who decided that deep down inside, he was a Democrat after all and switched parties. Hey! At least he was honest. Alas, I understand that he is being challenged in the Democrat primary.
My concern is with the Republican primary. Until now, I was inclined to favor Pat Toomey. Some might remember that six years ago, when he ran against Specter in the primary, he was back-stabbed by both President Bush and Senator Santorum in favor of Specter (who later became a Democrat). I thought he deserved a chance until it was brought to my attention today that had he sat in the Senate, he would have voted to confirm Sonya Sotomayor, who has made no secret of pandering after the Messiah Most Miserable. Hear in Toomey's own words.
Listen closely to two of his reasons. First, he says that the Senate owes the President "some due deferance". Not so, Mr. Toomey! The concept of "due deferance" has no place in the Senate confirmation. Rather, what is at play here is "checks and balances" and "division of powers", not "due deferance" which is just another term for "rubberstamp". Second, he states that a criterion of a judge is whether he or she "rules in the ideological mainstream of America". Wrong again. That's another way of saying "go with the flow" - but what determines the "flow" except all kinds of fads and peer-pressure? Rather, what we need are judges who will adhere to the United States Constitution as written by the Founding Fathers.
Regretably, I now opine that Patrick Toomey is not worthy of conservative support. I'd suggest that all citizens of Pennsylvania turn their eyes to Peg Luksik instead.
