Well, what else would one expect from a bastion of Jesuit goofiness, the same that gave the late Fr Drinan (God have mercy on his soul) a place to spread his pro-abortion poison, or that gave Fr Reese a similar place when Pope Benedict XVI fired him from the America magazine?
Georgetown University proclaims "tolerance", you see? However, such lofty ideals fly right out the window when it comes to being authentically Catholic. The "katholycs" really get their undies bunched when another institute of Catholic learning repents of its own wayward ways and remembers its mission.
Recently, Catholic University abandoned its disastrous policy of coed dorms and has returned to the sane practice of single-sex dorms. The editors of Georgetown's Hoya are all in a snit-twitter about this. Read the rant yourselves. They say "coed dorms should not be up for debate in this day and age". My, my! Methinks the Hoya waxes a bit dogmatic and emphatic, wouldn't you say?? Can't you just feel the love, the tolerance, and all the good vibes?? Oh, wait! That's only if the idea in question has nothing to do with being a Catholic institution and faithful to the Magisterium?
Georgetown lauds its "gender-blind" policy. Well they get one thing right. It shows their blindness!

Catholic University Faces Lawsuit - For Being (Gasp!) Catholic
Last week I heard the news that Catholic University was restoring its policy of housing men and women in separate buildings. To be honest, my first reaction was "Restored?? I didn't know its dorms had gone coed!" However, I did welcome the news that a Catholic institution was actually reinforcing some Catholic morality.
Comes now the news that some progressive law professor from George Washington University heard about this and bunched his undies over this announcement. To be fair to John Banzhaf, the CU move is quite - dare I say it? - politically incorrect! Banzhaf, on his own website, claims to be such a champion of "equal bathroom access" that he calls himself (drum roll, please)..
Who can make up this stuff? I think, for the sake of brevity, we'll call him Poppa-Potty! At any rate, CU has no concerns about the legality or constitutionality of its decision. I for one commend CUA president John Garvey for taking this step.

Commonweal Whines About CUA Choice Of Commencement Speaker
An ostensibly "Catholic" publication is voicing displeasure about the commencement speaker for Catholic Univeristy of America. And who might be this unsavory choice of speaker? John Boeher.
This blog is so imbued with progressive brain-rot that it compares this situation with the Notre Dame commencement of two years ago, when Obama desecrated a formerly Catholic institution. The blog's author, David Gibson, displays the same mental stagation that often plagues those still stuck in the "seamless garment" rut. He states that "Boehner's budget proposals have been anything but pro-life." Oh, really? How have Boehner's proposals fostered the baby-murder known as abortion? I understand that there are, in that proposal, provisions to cut abortion funding. That can only alleviate "unnecessary suffering by the most vulnerable."
Gibson makes reference to an open letter to Boeher, signed by some academics, chiding him for what they opine as deviance from Catholic social teaching. Here is one main paragraph, and I urge you to read the thing for yourselves.
"Mr. Speaker, your voting record is at variance from one of the Church’s most ancient moral teachings. From the apostles to the present, the Magisterium of the Church has insisted that those in power are morally obliged to preference the needs of the poor. Your record in support of legislation to address the desperate needs of the poor is among the worst in Congress. This fundamental concern should have great urgency for Catholic policy makers. Yet, even now, you work in opposition to it."
To you supposed academics, there are matters on which good Catholics can disagree. These are matters of prudential judgment. I share Boehner's concern that the needs of the poor cannot be met by governmental intervention. To insist that your opinion of what is in the realm of prudential judgment constitutes conformity with the Magisterium is patently dishonest and arrogant. I don't care how many academic big-wigs you get to sign this tripe, or how many letters they have behind their names. Your quasi-socialism has been shown to be the snake-oil that it is. Get over it!
Mr. Speaker, may God guide your words to the graduates this weekend.

Dissent-Fest At Catholic University Of America, May 2-3
Catholic University of America is hosting a conference entitled “120th Anniversary of Rerum Novarum: Church, Labor, and the New Things of the Modern World." It will be held at the Edward J. Pryzbyla Center from May 2 till May 3. More details can be found on this CUA page.
What we really have here is another venue from which to plug a progressive, socialistic mindset that masquerades as authentic Catholic social teaching. It is anything but real teaching. Let's look at the gang of usual supects that are some of the speakers at this thing. It is quite eye-opening!

Dark Days Ahead for Catholic University??
From Pewsitter and Catholic Culture, we read that John Garvey, dean of Boston College Law School, will succeed Father David O'Connell, who will become coadjuter bishop of Trenton.
In 2002, he wrote, "On several occasions I have heard people express concern that the Catholic identity of Boston College and the Law School will require a certain orthodoxy, or suppress unorthodox opinions, among its faculty and students. No school that regulates ideas can justly call itself a university. Indeed, it is precisely because we are committed to the search for truth in an atmosphere of academic freedom that the Law School can render a useful service to the Church and the cause of justice. It is natural that we should have a particular interest in the intersection of law and religion. (Though this is not our only focus.) But when people address that subject here they do not speak for (or against) the church hierarchy. They follow where their inquiries lead them." So much for Ex Corde Ecclesiae. This man parrots the heretical "Land O' Lakes Statement".
In 2007 he awarded an honorary degree to Rep Edward J. Markey, who sports a 100% "pro-choice" voting record. He himself donated three times to John Kerry's campaigns. He may be a college dean and soon-to-be president, but he has demonstrated that as far as Catholic morals goes, he has trouble distinguishing between apple butter and cow pie.
I understand that under Father O'Connell, things at CU had improved from what had been a rather abysmal state of affairs. Alas, it appears that these improvements may well be undone. Parents, think twice about paying tuition for your children to be under Garvey's tutelage.
Follow-up as of 6/21/2010
A reader sent to me the following link with additional information regarding Dr. Garvey. This adds to our concerns. http://bryanhehirexposed.wordpress.com/2010/06/16/new-catholic-university-president-what-no-one-is-reporting/
