Dissident Composer David Haas Terminated By GIA Over Credible Sex Abuse Allegations

Four years ago I wrote of serious problems concerning David Haas, a fairly popular "katholyc" composer.  As you see in the comments section of that post, quite the discussion ensued.  His music was published in GIA Publications - until recently.

GIA suspended their relationship with Haas, as allegations of sexual misconduct were resported against him.  Apparently the number of allegations is still growing.  See this post from GIA's facebook wall for more details.

It appears that we have an example of the principle, "lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivandi".  Someone who holds beliefs at variance with God's revealed truth will most likely live their lives in disobedience to those truths.

GIA is suspending their relationship with Haas.  I strongly suggest that all Catholic music directors remove Haas' works from their repertoires.  They should also be mindful of the composers' obedience (or lack thereof) to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Dissident Hymnast David Haas Coming To Maryland

I just received word that David Haas is scheduled to give a concert at St. Ignatius of Loyola in Ijamsville, MD.  It will happen Friday November 9 at 8pm.  See here why David Haas and his "works" have no place whatsoever in Catholic worship.  Here is the announcement from the church's facebook page.  Let's contact them to cancel.  If they won't, we'll consider a picket..

Father Weinandy Causes John Gehring To Have A Meltdown

That is evidenced by the latest hissy-snit against Father Weinandy as published by Comic-squeal.  It is spewed forth from the frothings of John Gehring, entitled "More Catholic Than The Pope".   The whole thing reads like one massive temper tantrum.   I could spend all night picking this mess apart, but instead I'll focus on two things.

Here is one telling quote: "Pope Francis isn’t undermining doctrine. In fact, he is rescuing doctrine from dusty theology books, insisting that human beings, in all our complexity and messiness, must be at the center of the church’s vision."  See the problem?  Human beings are NOT at the center of the church's vision.  God is.  In a Freudian slip fashion, Gehring betrays his humanistic, as opposed to Catholic, mental paradigm.

Here's another: "It’s particularly galling that Fr. Weinandy would so condescendingly rebuke the pope given his history of accusing progressive Catholic theologians of disloyalty and dissent."  Father Weinandy's actions are not contradictory for in both these circumstances cited by Gehring, Father Weinandy defended the Church's timeless teachings, regardless of the person(s) dissenting from them.

Enough of that.  Let's look at Gehring himself.  I've made mention of him in previous posts.  He is quite the progressive dissident himself, and probably feels the sting of Father's rebukes personally and for good cause.  Here's a page devoted entirely to him and the mischief he's wreaked over the years; note that he most likely was the receiving end of George Soros's cash infusions at one time.  In that post I made mention of Gehring's twitter page.  Here's a current one indicating that he supports the gay lifestyle.  No wonder he resents Father Weinandy, for darkness hates the light.

Catholic Standard Shills For False Unity At Truth's Expense

On page 3 of the Nov 12 issue of the Catholic Standard and here on the online version appears an article entitled "Catholics' Post-Election To-Do List Includes Work For Unity, Healing".  Right there in the title you can foresee the problems in the article.  Instead of focusing on "unity and healing", the focus needs to be on proper catechesis so that Catholics understand Our Lord's teachings on life, sexuality, marriage, family, and the prominence that faith should have in our personal and civic lives.  Without that understanding, any pretense at unity will be that - a mere sham.

However, as we peruse this article, we see no emphasis on truth.  That lack of emphasis is seen in the selection of people quoted in this article.
  • Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Indianapolis (not to be confused with Bishop Thomas Tobin of Rhode Island) turned a deaf ear to us when we pleaded with him to intervene in the plans of a local KofC council to rent their hall to lesbians to hold their "wedding reception".  Is that what he means by "building bridges" as he said in an interview?  In that same interview he approved of the ambiguity of Amoralis Lamentia and poo-pooed the efforts of the four cardinals who published the dubia.
  • The National Catholic Reporter is so faithless to true Catholicism that its two bishops have directed the pubication to remove the word "Catholic" from their title.  Of course those directives are disobeyed.
  • Sister Simone Campbell along with her Network bunch, are pro-abortion.  She and NETWORK sided with the Obama administration against the USCCB to support Obamacare's HHS mandate.  When asked whether or not she thought abortion should be illegal, she took a line out of Obama's script and replied "that's beyond my pay grade.  I don't know".  So we're supposed to believe that a leader in "Catholic social justice" doesn't know if baby-murder should be illegal?  In another interview after the DNC convention (during which she publicly praised the NARAL president) she stated "I don't think it's a good policy to outlaw abortion" then went on to slander pro-life people.
  • Father James Martin makes no secret of his sympathy for "gay rights".  He was honored by the dissident group New Ways Ministry for his advoacy of the sodomite lifestyle.
Why does Carol Zimmerman (author of the Catholic Standard piece) call these people "Catholic leaders"?

Let's talk about some of these "divisions".  The only way that there could be "divisions", at least in the general election, is if Catholics voted for Hillary Clinton.  A goodly number of faithful priests have outlined why voting for Hillary, who made no secret of her devotion to baby-murder and institutionalized sodomy, would have been a sinful act.  Those who voted for her, knowing of her stances, sinned.  I've posted many times on this blog why it was sinful to withhold votes for Trump.  On those posts are links to homilies/writings of others making the same case.  Still, some have not only withheld their votes from Trump; they magnified their sin in casting votes for Clinton.

Now the Catholic Standard is issuing a "kiss-and-make-up" call, all the while quoting from dissidents who most likely sinned with their votes.  No true reconciliation can happen unless those who voted for Clinton (particularly those who were arrogantly blatant about it) announce public repentance for that sin.  We must face the fact that those who cast such votes betrayed the unborn children as well as faithful Catholics.  If there is not that public repentance, we've no assurance that they won't repeat that sin, should they deem it suitable for them to do so.

I for one refuse to play that silly, deceptive make-believe game of false reconciliation.  It will be asked if I hope to work with those Clinton voters in the future.  I will reply, "unless they repent, NO!"  Now the question is, "do those who sinned with their votes wish to work with us in the future?"  If so, the must repent.  Either way, it's up to them.

Three Insults To The Faith in One Week

This past Monday, Joe Biden, Vice President of the United States and dissident Catholic, "officiated" at the #mowwidge of two White House staff members, both of them males.  I hesitate to call them "men" for real men understand and obey the laws of nature and nature's God.  Canon lawyer Ed Peters has some reflections as to whether or not he incurred excommunication by making a mockery of true marriage.  One key point that he makes is that if the Pope or Cardinal Wuerl were to issue canonical legislation making what Biden did a canonical crime, then yes Biden could be excommunicated.

Earlier, at the DNC convention, the president of NARAL gave an account of her own abortion in order to gin up support for more baby murder.  Sister Simone Campbell, a "nuns on the bus" leader, applauded this talk.  Campbell has made no secret of her support of abortion.

Then we have some outright heresy from Father James Martin, S.J.  Currently he is editor-at-large for America magazine, the dissident rag published by the Jesuits.  During the past few days, Martin let loose with these tweets.

For him to state that Jesus could be "challenged" by the Canaanite woman is to allege that Jesus had intellectual and moral imperfections.  That is a pure slap in the face to the Divine Personhood of Jesus.  Yes, He has two natures but as a Person He is Divine, with all that it entails.  However, while Martin undoubtedly pronounced heresy, he's not the first Jesuit of recent memory to do so.  Last December, the pope opined that Jesus probably had to beg forgiveness from His parents.  Again, to ascribe sinfulness to God Himself is heresy and probably blasphemous as well.

So I've now pointed out three insults to the Faith, all occurring in a week.  The timing isn't all that these three incidents have in common.  Here's another thing that I think they'll have in common.  Those responsible for these heresies will most likely suffer no consequences for their misbehaviors.  Their superiors will look the other way and pretend that these didn't occur.

Archbishop Cordileone Under Attack - Will Pope Francis Support Him After Letting The LCWR Run Amok?

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, prelate of San Francisco, has made heroic efforts to cleanse the progressive rot inside Catholic schools and other structures in his archdiocese that have been allowed to fester for way too long.  The link above documents that, and the opposition that he has had to withstand.  It should be mentioned that some of that opposition has come from local governments, who ignore the real intent of the First Amendment's prohibition against governmental interference with the free exercise of religious beliefs.

Some ignorant and/or disobedient Catholics have taken out an ad to publish an open letter to Pope Francis.  They are petitioning the Pope to remove Cordileone and replace him with a progressive to their own likening.  Their main beef seems to be the archbishop's insistence that teachers in the Catholic schools there conduct themselves in manners that conform with Catholic moral teaching.  Imagine that!  Asking Catholic teachers to behave like - Catholics!  Who-da thunk it?  All they do is display their own desperate need for real Catholic education.

Now think this through!  Can you imagine these same parents lambasting an Islamic school for insisting that its teachers live by Muslim doctrines?  No!  It defies common sense!  But common sense means nothing to those whose consciences cannot bear the truth of God because their own lives are lived in disobedience to God.  I believe this is a key reason why these dissidents are gnashing their teeth at Archbishop Cordileone.  This move to marginalize the archbishop and other faithful Catholics in their own schools and churches is part of a move to relegate us to the status of "niggers of the new age".

According to some reports, many of the signers of this letter are wealthy and influential.  Well, whoop-dee-doo!  In this attack against the Archbishop, these individuals place their own immortal souls in jeopardy, and their so-called "wealth and influence" won't do diddly-squat if they die unrepentant.

Some have opined that this letter is a gesture that won't have any impact on the Pope.  In a saner time I could have joined in that optimism.  However, two events give me "cause for pause".
  1. There is the abysmal treatment meted out to Father Marcel Guarnizo three years ago at my own parish when Father withheld Holy Communion to a flagrant lesbian.  Cardinal Wuerl had him thrown under the bus when the gay community started yipping and yapping.  Whether or not the chancery silently agreed with the gays or they simply cowed before them I cannot tell.  The entire chancery failed miserably in behaving like true followers of Jesus Christ.  If the DC chancery wimped out then, might the nuncio wimp out now?
  2. There is today's news that the Vatican is ending its review and reform of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.  The attempt to reform the LCWR was undertaken by Pope Benedict XVI, and long overdue for the LCWR has long been a cesspool of dissent and spiritual poison.  Now we hear that Pope Francis thinks all is well and good and that LCWR business can resume as before!  If that be the case with the LCWR, might there be similar attitudes displayed against the Archdiocese of San Francisco?   Note: Vox Cantoris points out that this travesty was committed on Pope Benedict's birthday.  Did the pope just slap his predecessor in the face?
Please consider signing a petition to support the Archbishop.  This petition is an initiative of LifeSiteNews.   Of course please pray and speak out.  Thank you.

Another Scandalous Funeral For A Flamboyant Dissident - Time To Speak Up

Today's Vortex gives the details regarding a very public funeral for a Planned Parenthood and pro-gay activist.  In it, Voris alludes to contact information for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston; here it is.

UPDATE - The entire archdiocesan site seems to be down at this time.  In the meantime, ChurchMilitant did provide some phone numbers at this link.  (Now it's back up.)

More On Sister Jane At Charlotte Catholic High School

Yesterday in Crisis Magazine, Austin Ruse published an article giving additional details about Sister Jane Dominic Laurel's talk, the knee-jerk reactions and the progressive attitudes that existed prior to Sister's talk.  Apparently the kids started their angry tweeting sessions before Sister ended her talk.

I needn't rehash the entire thing here; please read it.  Apparently the dissidents had their long knives out for Father Kauth, the school chaplain who had previously restored some reverence to what was a progressive bastion.

Now the question is - as it has been - will Bishop Jugis uphold both Father Kauth and Sister Jane?  That still remains to be seen.  The delay is unconscionable.

Open Letter To Bishop Peter Jugis

The following is an open letter to Bishop Jugis that I just sent to the Charlotte chancery.  By the way - here's a commentary by American Life League on the abysmal treatment being meted out to Sister.
________________________________________________________________________

I am a lifelong Catholic who embraces ALL the Church’s teachings, including those on life, sexuality and marriage.   While I understand from friends that you have a reputation of being similarly oriented – and because of that understanding – I am disappointed by the statement that you released on April 9th

While it was very nice that you expressed “support” for the staff, faculty, students and parents of the school, you omitted one key person in your support – Sister Jane Dominic Laurel.  That omission was glaringly obvious; a reasonable person could conclude that omission to be capitulation to those students and parents who took umbrage at Sister’s clear proclamation of Catholic truth.

While you are shocked at the reports you heard of the “lack of charity and respect” at the parents’ meeting, did you consider the underlying root of that rancor?  The parents took umbrage with Sister’s clear teaching – no, not Sister’s teaching, but the teaching of the Catholic Church as faithfully and accurately rendered by Sister.  When dissidents are presented with the unabridged truths of the Faith and have no disposition to conform to the truths taught by Jesus Christ, they will hurl bile and venom at the faithful souls who “preach the Gospel in season and out of season”.  Such was the mindset of those who crucified Our Lord and Savior and who have been shedding the blood of Christians ever since.  We all need to get used to it and not chase after some vaporous illusion of “charity and respect”.

Some opined to me that the motive behind your statement may have been to pacify certain noisy individuals and quiet things down.  If that was the case, may I suggest that motive is not at all valid?  If you really want to address the root cause of the snit-fits pitched by the parents and their children, please consider immediate remedial catechism from the pulpits of your parishes (or some other form of instruction in the Faith).  Otherwise these parents will persist in beliefs and perhaps conduct that will only increase their chances of eternal damnation AND they will continue to lead their own children down that same hideous path.  Let’s be clear; such preaching may well occasion additional rancor on the parts of those who will remain obdurate in their disobedience.  So what?  That’s simply part of the price that we must all bear when proclaiming the truth to a hostile world.  That proclamation of truth may well lead others may be led to repentance.  That won’t happen unless all hear unambiguous truth.  Let us harbor no illusion that real peace will be restored by smiles and happy-talk.  Real peace will only happen when people accept Catholic truth and conform their lives to the same

I appreciate that David Hains expressed his support of Sister Jane.  But such support should have been reinforced by the one entrusted with the miter, crosier, pectoral cross and ring of the Bishop’s office.  Your unfortunate statement of April 9th only served to further undermine a faithful teacher of Catholic truth.  In all justice – not only to Sister but to all those associated with the school – please amend that statement immediately, with no delay “because of Holy Week”.  Thank you.

The Pax Christi Event At St Francis Of Assisi This Evening

If you attended that event in Derwood Maryland and are visiting this site, no doubt you are doing so because this was left on your car.  The only difference between this online version and the paper flyer is that the hyperlinks are indeed "clickable".  I strongly urge you to study those links.  Please note that two of them are links to Pax Christi's own site.  The evidence of Pax Christi's dissent from Christ's teachings don't get any more "first-hand" than that!

I contend that any debatable benefit that you might have gleaned from this evening's event is far outweighed by the harm wrought by lending Pax Christi your audience and a moral credibility that it simply doesn't deserve.  I've no doubt that many people are genuinely unaware of Pax Christi's desire to undermine Church teaching in fundamental matters of faith and morals.  For any new awareness that has come about, I am thankful.

Pax Christi - Wolf In Sheep's Clothing Coming To Montgomery County Parish

Here is more key data on Pax Christi USA, the spiritual predator that is being granted admittance to St Francis of Assisi Church in Derwood MD this coming Wednesday.

My Catholic Media Coalition colleague Stephanie Block wrote an article on Pax Christi USA in her newsletter Los Pequenos.  I link to the archive here; you'll need to go to page 14 of the pdf.  As usual, Stephanie has done thorough research.  For the rest of this piece I'll refer to Pax Christi USA as "PCUSA".

PCUSA is also linked to many dissident organizations.  From the program of their recent national conference we see that they allowed New Ways Ministry to be a vendor at their conference.  New Ways Ministry is solely dedicated to advancing the acceptance of sexual perversion by the Catholic Church.  Its founders have been censured by the DC bishops throughout the years (being headquartered in Prince George's County MD, within the Archdiocese of Washington).  To further document Pax Christi's own embrace of perversion, please review this page of photos from that same conference; about halfway down the page you'll see their slide projection stating quite openly that "if PC-USA is to remain relevant and on the frontier as a Catholic movement of peace-making with justice, it must intentionally welcome people of all gender identities and sexual orientations."

In August 2012 the fight over the HHS mandate was getting underway as various dioceses and Catholic organizations filed their suits in court.  A naive person might have believed that Pax Christi might have stood for religious freedom, respect for conscience, etc.  Well, think again!  When the Diocese of Erie (PA) filed its suit, four of the so-called "Catholic social justice" groups filed friend-of-the-court briefs siding with the Obama regime!  Two of them were Pax Christi (Pittsburgh area) and Call to Action.  Their reasoning?  They themselves dissent from Church teaching on contraception - pure and simple.

As the astute reader of this blog and others may have noticed, many of these progressive groups can be intertwined in lots of coalitions.  Pax Christi and Call to Action are both to be found in something called "Catholic Organizations for Renewal".  While the latter does not have a national website, some sites do exist and can be quite informative.  Take, for instance, this site in which its congratulations to Pope Francis on his selection as Pontiff is seen.  The various organizations - including Pax Christi - voice their "hopes" for Francis's pontificate.  Those "hopes" include "women's ordination", gay "rights" and unrestricted abortion.

National Catholic Reporter's Editor Dies

Joseph Feuerherd, head of the National Catholic Reporter, passed away from cancer this past week at the age of 48 years.  Other blogs wrote about his passing; I highlight two of them and invite all to do their own comparisons.

The first is from the American Papist blog, and is actually quite a glowy write-up - perhaps overly so.  In it, Mark Stricherz refers to him as a gregarious individual, and commented on the deceased's "commitment to the poor".

To answer the question why I put his "commitment to the poor" in quotes, it's worth taking a look at the second of the two blogs - that of my CMC colleague, Les Femmes.  She points out that Feuerherd placed his erroneous concept of concern for the poor above (or at least on a par with) concern for the thousands of unborn children murdered each day - so much so that he announced his support for Obama during the 2008 campaign.  Need I remind anyone of the immense menace that Obama continues to pose for these truly defenseless amongst us?

It may well be that Feuerherd was a gregarious individual.  So what?  Ted Kennedy was reputed to have an outgoing, afiable personality - and no one disputes how he played in integral role in ensconsing the Culture of Death in the fabric of modern society.  Feuerherd caused similar damage via the dissent and pro-abortion propaganda promulgated through the National Catholic Reporter while he was at its helm.

Stricherz concludes his piece by saying, "Whenever you feel like criticizing someone, just stop to think if you would reach the same conclusion if you met and talked with the person. Charity goes a long way."  Criticizing the person is not the issue; his deeds (and misdeeds) are.  We can, and must, look at and speak honestly of the ways in which Feuerherd et al helped to foster a dangerous culture that wars against its unborn.  It is the complete antithesis of true charity to gloss over the truth, for then we may not be so urgent to pray to God that he have mercy on the soul of Joseph Feuerherd - as well we should.

Dissent-Fest At Catholic University Of America, May 2-3

Catholic University of America is hosting a conference entitled “120th Anniversary of Rerum Novarum: Church, Labor, and the New Things of the Modern World."  It will be held at the Edward J. Pryzbyla Center from May 2 till May 3.  More details can be found on this CUA page.

What we really have here is another venue from which to plug a progressive, socialistic mindset that masquerades as authentic Catholic social teaching.  It is anything but real teaching.  Let's look at the gang of usual supects that are some of the speakers at this thing.  It is quite eye-opening!

St Rose of Lima And The American Catholic Council

St Rose of Lima Church in Gaithersburg has a well-deserved reputation for harboring and promoting dissent.  However, this is beginning to take on more ominous undertones, as my colleague at An Archdiocese of Washington Catholic pointed out a few days ago.

This parish has been harboring a Voice of the Faithful group for several years now, going so far as to announce VOTF meetings in its bulletin that occur on parish property.  The most recent bulletin announces such a meeting, but with an insiduous little advertisement.  Look on the second page, under the "community" column, second item from the bottom.  You are invited to "share and dialog with fellow Catholics on your hopes and recommendations for the Church.   Your voiced thoughts and hopes will help shape recommendations of an American Catholic meeting in Detroit MI next June."

What meeting?  Quite frankly, the St Rose VOTF seems rather cagey about the nature of this "meeing in Detroit".  That's because the Archbishop of Detroit, Allen Vigneron, has denounced the American Catholic Council in general, and the planned meeting in Detroit in particular.  He made quite plain that this "council" does not at all speak for the Catholic Church and has asked them to cancel any plans for a meeting in Detroit.  Thank you, Archbishop Vigneron!

Let's take a look at the American Catholic Council's website.  They are quite unabashed about their goals.  As you read its various sub-pages, you'll notice the none-too-subtle influence of the heresy of americanism - that is, the heretical opinion that the Roman Catholic Church must let itself be influenced by the secular American culture, rather than lending its truth to the culture.  Click on the links subpage and see an entire list of the "usual suspects", openly dissenting organizations: New Ways, Women's Ordination Conference, Take Back Our Church, etc.  The "declaration signatories" reveals more: Pax Christi, Dignity.. You get the picture!

I suggest you keep an eye out for this sort of thing going on in your parishes.

US Bishops Complain About Us Bloggers

At a convention of the Catholic Media Association (not to be confused with the Catholic Media Coalition, of which we're a proud member), Bishop Gambino Zavala (auxiliary of Los Angeles and chair of the US Bishops' Communications Committee), had some things to say about Catholic media - and blogs such as this one in general.  His comments about us bloggers:

For Sister Carol, Chris Matthews and Their Cronies

Please watch this carefully, and understand that your immortal souls are in danger because of your dissidence.  We seek to minimize the damage that you are causing to yourselves as well as to others.  (Click here if you can't see embedded videos)
