Today's Political Developments Demand Rational Response, Not Knee-Jerk Rancor (UPDATED)

First, a little legal-talk to stave off the salivating lawyers..  Faithful Catholics of MD/DC Inc is not - repeat, NOT - a "c3" corporation,  In fact, we're not a "501c" anything!  That means we can make all the political statements we want!  Now that this is out of the way, let's continue.

As most of you know, I was hoping that Ted Cruz would be the GOP nominee for US President.  I voted for him in the MD primary.  However, I just got the news that after the Indiana primary, Cruz has decided to drop out of the race.  That means that Donald Trump is the nominee, assuming that all RINO attempts to submarine his campaign come to naught.  On the Democrat side, we see that Hillary is beating Bernie quite handily.  So barring very unusual occurrences, we'll be seeing a Trump vs Clinton race this coming November.

Quite honestly, I find Trump to be an enigma.  Some of his policy statements have been rather contradictory.  Some of his conduct has, in my opinion, not been worthy of one aspiring to be the Chief Executive Officer of the United States of America.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has not been enigmatic in the least.  Her pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage stances are out there for everyone to see.  We know for a fact what kind of Supreme Court justices she'll nominate if she wins the White House.  We know what kind of mess her foreign policy will be, just by the debacle that was her performance as Secretary of State.  Need I remind one and all of the four Americans that she knowingly let die in Benghazi on her watch?  Need we reminders of the security breaches posed by her reckless handing of servers and emails?

I recite all this because I'm seeing signs of irrational rage and anger against Trump's nomination from good Christians and pro-life activists.  Their common mantra seems to be "anyone but Trump", as they threaten to stay home on election day or to write in some other person on their presidential ballot.  That is the kind of thinking and acting that garnered for this country eight years of the worst presidency to date; disdaining both McCain and Romney, good Christians (acting on emotion versus reason) simply abdicated their civic duties and let Obama waltz into the White House.

One meme captured the lack of logic perfectly.  I wished I saved it; if I see it again, I'll post it. (UPDATE - See below!)  Anyway, it said (paraphrased), "if Trump wins the nomination, Hillary wins the White House so I won't vote in November".  This statement is an example of a logical fallacy known as a self-fulfilling prophesy, for if good people do indeed not effectively vote against Hillary, she will indeed win the White House.  Note carefully.  In that case, she'd win not because Trump was the nominee but because otherwise-rational people used that as an excuse not to vote for the one candidate who could deny her the White House.

If we're serious about at least slowing down the oncoming train wreck of our cultural degradation, we will have to vote for Trump, for that is the only effective way to vote against Hillary.  And please - none of this write-in crap.  You might feel better while you're doing it, but elections are not about how we feel.  We need to turn our emotions off and force our intellect and reason to have dominance over our feelings and "gut reactions".

I've written before quite extensively on voting and the Catholic Principle of Double Effect; I need not rehash it here, but instead link to the anthology of posts.  Yes, the act of voting for Trump needs to be subject to this scrutiny, but so do the acts of: not voting at all, or, the act of voting "third-party" or "write-in" must be subject to the same scrutiny.

Let us ask Our Lord's blessing and direction for us.

Father Marcel Guarnizo On The Presidential Race

Father Marcel Guarnizo, about whom I've written in the past, recently published some thoughts regarding the presidential race this year.  We do need a president who will respect and uphold the US Constitution and not just give it lip service.  For the record, I will be voting for Cruz during Maryland's primaries in April.

Kim Davis Freed From Her Unjust Imprisonment

Yesterday Kim Davis was freed from her incarceration - a draconian persecution that had absolutely no justification.  Her cause drew national attention and outrage from many quarters of the nation.  Many good people sounded the alarm and made their disgust at Judge David Bunning known.  I suspect he meant to intimidate her by his roughshod treatment, but because of the national outcry - aided by social media - he realized quickly his trick could backfire in his face.  Perhaps this release was a "cut-and-run" action on his part.  At least he mitigated the damage he had done - somewhat.

Obviously to God belongs thanks and honor for vindicating His servant and witness.  Kudos to Franklin Graham, Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz and others for calling out the fiends in government.  Of course we recognize the hundreds who rallied this weekend outside the jail house.

As a Catholic, though, I must say that I'm embarrassed by the deafening silence of the Catholic hierarchy.  I checked the website of the Diocese of Lexington a few minutes ago; still you will not find so much as a mention of Ms. Davis' name.  The same goes for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.  I find that most mystifying as they seem to be preparing for this World Meeting of Families that the Pope will be attending in Philadelphia next month.  We all know that had the news from Kentucky been of some serial killer being sentenced to death row, that the USCCB would have started their protests and prayer vigils in a heartbeat - but when it comes to a Christian standing for marriage, they just couldn't be bothered.  How will they respond in future situations?  And yes, Ms. Davis' situation is just the first among many.

From The Niggers Of The New Age Department - Christian Government Official Jailed For Upholding True Law

I'm writing of Kim Davis, the Kentucky court clerk who has just been jailed by a rogue judge until she agrees to issue marriage licenses to those engaged in homosexual perversion.  See here.  There's complaints from the judicial activists about her taking an oath - an oath which I suspect was administered with her hand on a Bible.  That gesture is NOT a meaningless tradition.  Anyway, before liberals tut-tut against Ms. Davis for "defying rule of law", they might wish to refresh their memories a tad.

Mike Huckabee had this to say: "Having Kim Davis in federal custody removes all doubt of the criminalization of Christianity in our country. We must defend religious liberty and never surrender to judicial tyranny. Five unelected Supreme Court lawyers did not and cannot make law. They can only make rulings. The Supreme Court is not the Supreme branch and it's certainly not the Supreme Being. I am proud of Kim for standing strong for her beliefs. Who will be next? Pastors? Photographers? Caterers? Florists? This is a reckless, appalling, out-of-control decision that undermines the Constitution of the United States and our fundamental right to religious liberty."

Ted Cruz also issued a statement to which I'll link.  Towards the end we read "We are a country founded on Judeo-Christian values, founded by those fleeing religious oppression and seeking a land where we could worship God and live according to our faith, without being imprisoned for doing so."  That's just historical fact.

Huckabee asked "who's next?"  Actually folks from all those fields have been attacked and persecuted for not bowing before the gay-nazi baals and molechs of the day - and we are being attacked by highly placed and highly paid henchmen.  This is why several years ago I coined the phrase "niggers of the new age" to describe the increasing hostility we're facing precisely because we are Christians who obey God.

In a discussion about Ms. Davis' situation, I said of her, "her witness stings their guilty consciences so they are driven to punish her for her beliefs. Such was the case with John the Baptist, St Stephen, just about every martyr and anyone who upholds Christian morality. They want blood."  The progressives resent our stance for it makes plain the sinfulness of their conduct.  When I said "they want blood", I was not speaking metaphorically.

Let us stand with brave Christians like Ms Davis and speak out against her mistreatment - while we still some freedoms left.

By the way - I just popped over to the USCCB site to see if they issued any sort of statement, as did Huckabee and Cruz.  Not a peep, and I'm not surprised.  If anyone sees any such statement, please drop a line in the combox.

Planned Parenthood Blatantly Admits It Sells Parts From Babies' Bodies

A top Planned Parenthood doctor has been caught on video admitting that Planned Parenthood sells organs and other parts of babies that they murder.  She states plainly that she tailors her own abortion techniques to derive specific organ samples from her murder victims.  The doctor's name is Deborah Nucatola.  Her card is to the right.  As she speaks in the video about her murder techniques, one can imagine her sharing a pint with nazi doctors of a few generations ago.

Some are calling this revelation "breaking".  It isn't; we've known for years that abortionists were selling baby body parts.  However, this may be the first time a major abortion perpetrator has admitted to the practice.  Planned Parenthood has entered into damage-control mode; I understand that Nucola's twitter page has been deactivated.

Both Bobby Jindal and Ted Cruz announced initiatives to investigate Planned Parenthood for their engagement in this practice.  Where are all the other political leaders - that is, the ones who aren't already in the pockets of Planned Parenthood?

Obama Says He Can Do Whatever He Wants

He made that quip at Monticello two days ago, while showing the sights to France's president Hollande.  Before we get all outraged about this arrogance, we might be able to see his point.  He has no real opposition in Congress.  Any illusions to the contrary have been soundly obliterated these past few days as a result of the debt ceiling vote.  Let's face it; the RINO leadership, starting with John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, showed themselves to be spineless, sniveling wimps.

This past Tuesday, Boehner allowed the debt ceiling vote to proceed in the House.  He attached no requirements for spending cuts whatsoever.  Moreover, he joined in the vote for the passage of that reckless measure.  Typically the Speaker of the House does not cast a vote - but he did, to ensure its passage.  The measure passed, with 28 Republicans voting for it.  Here is the list of the GOP who voted for it.  I am most disappointed that Chris Smith of New Jersey saw fit to lower himself on Tuesday.

It then went to the Senate.  Ted Cruz attempted a filibuster, but Mitch McConnell cut Cruz off at the knees.  He then went on to vote against it: as though that duplicity will go unnoticed.

So now we understand that Obama's quip, while arrogant, is not without basis.  As long as the RINO establishment is allowed to reign, there will be no true "checks and balances" as was envisioned by the Founding Fathers.

Potty-Mouth Talk From Barbara Mikuslksi

Of course this sort of thing is nothing unexpected from a pro-abortion, pro-sodomite "katholic-in-name-only" politician who has remained prominent only because she has betrayed her Church and Jesus Christ.  If ever there was a person in dire need of the medicine of Canon 915, Barbara Mikulski would be that quintessential patient.  Archbishop Lori of Baltimore, please take note as you are her bishop and are now answerable before God for her.  Granted the ultimate responsibility is hers, and you are inheriting quite a mess from your predecessors who demurred from their duty towards her.  Please take public action against her and yes, Governor Martin O'Malley too for the sake of their souls.

In her latest screed, she has referred to many of us as practitioners of perverted acts with her use of the term "tea-baggers".  What comes out of her mouth is just symptomatic of the garbage that festers within her.  Pray for her.  Also let's work for her defeat in 2016.

Abolish The IRS

There never was a Constitutional basis for the existence of this behemoth.  They tyrannical monstrosity it has become is merely the logical consequence of the overreaching authority it has been allowed to exert over citizens.  It's time to abolish it.  At this IJR article, watch the video in which Senator Ted Cruz is voicing what so many of us believe to be the correct course of action.
