Professor Janet Smith On The Crisis In The Church Today

Several weeks ago, Dr. Janet Smith, long-time defender of the Church's teachings on contraception, gave a talk in Springfield Virginia on the topic cited above.  It is important for each and every one of us to have an understanding of the depths to which the Church has sunk, if we are to pray and act intelligently and effectively to rectify matters.  Please watch the entire presentation.

Rome Life Forum On May 17-18

The Rome Life Forum was founded by LifeSiteNews and is now carried on by Voice of the Family.  Their meeting this year will focus on combating modernism within the Church.  Yes, modernism is found at all levels of the Church and has even emanated from Pope Francis himself.

If one is still inclined to pretend that modernism is no problem, please reflect upon the murder of Alfie Evans, sanctioned by most of the UK Catholic bishops.  Think of Katy Perry being invited by the Vatican to sing the praises of transcendental meditation.  I spoke a bit yesterday of "cooperation with mortal sin" being itself a mortal sin.  The Vatican provided a forum for the commission of mortal sin against the First Commandment.  Throw into the mix the sins of blasphemy and sacrilege and we can see that those who invited Perry and/or allowed her to pollute a Church event are guilty themselves of grave sins. That's modernism for you.

The prime mission of the Church, as defined by Jesus Christ Himself, is the salvation of souls.  That CURA conference had nothing to do with that, and even appears to have caused scandal to souls.  Likewise the prattlings of the the US bishops.  Jihad Watch tells us that they submitted a brief to the US Supreme Court claiming that President Trump's travel ban is "blatant religious discrimination".  We do well to remember that the US bishops have a vested financial interest in securing the largest immigrant population possible.

The Vortex that I'm going to post below details how many dioceses are experiencing the effects of all this modernism and loss of faith.  Many are engaged in silly marketing campaigns.  Perhaps they need to listen to Archbishop Sample's homily from the Pontifical High Mass this past Sunday at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  They don't need cheap gimmicks.  All they need to do is to present the real Catholic faith.  Of course that entails that they believe the Faith and repent of their dalliances with modernism.  By the way - when I speak of "cheap gimmicks" I also refer to the regrettable tendency of clerics and religious orders to carry on like silly buffoons in a misguided attempt to "reach the youth where they are".  Again, young people, indeed all people, need to see the Faith lived out in all its splendor and dignity.

Let us pray for the success of the Rome Life Forum.  I look forward to posting the videos as they become available.

Crisis Of Leadership In The Church

First, here's the video from today's Vortex.  Click here if you cannot see embedded video.

The report from the Cardinal Newman Society that Voris mentioned can be read here - and please do read it in its entirety.  Voris also addresses the bizarre statements of Archbishop Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster in England in his support of gay "civil unions".  One can read more from Father Malloy's blog and from Catholic News AgencyLest anyone forget, I call to the remembrance of all that five years ago, during an interview on Wolf Blitzer's "Situation Room", Cardinal McCarrick, then the archbisop of Washington, also voiced his support of gay "civil unions".  Here is the transcript of the interview.

On another note, there are hopeful signs.  I don't believe the Church in the West is on its way out - at least not yet.  Here is a post on Bishop Sample of Marquette MI who laments the lousy catechesis that many of us received in the wake of Vatican II and his priority on remedying the situation.  This is the same bishop who informed dissident Bishop Gumbleton that he did not have pemission to come into his (Sample's) diocese to give a talk.   Here's another of Father Michael Taylor of Corpus Christi TX who is restoring the boys-only tradition for altar servers.  These are only two examples of some bright lights starting to shine.  Let us pray for more and support them.

Crisis In The Church - Will It Lead To Persecution?

Scripture and Tradition have always taught us to expect persecution.  In fact, it might even be said that if we aren't experiencing persecution of some variety, perhaps we should ask what we're doing wrong.  The persecution does seem to be getting more and more blatant.  A few days ago you saw on this blog a maniacal woman attack a pro-life activist.  We see how in public schools the very mention of God is forbidden by school officials.  So where is this all going?  The Vortex videos below this jump break will explore that question.
