Cardinal Burke - "No Place For Silence"

Last week Cardinal Burke gave a talk in Slovakia.  I needn't rehash what Gloria TV said, so I'll just urge you to watch it on their site.  I trust he'll be speaking on similar themes at the Rome Life Forum.

  1. It's nice to know that the fire brigade is on the way now that our home has been reduced to smoldering ashes.

    1. Right......my feelings exactly. A 'day late and a dollar short'. There has been so much damage to the 'Establishment Church' with the appointment of all the 'rogue Bishops' etc, we hardly have a fighting chance to restore Her to her former beauty. The Lord God will have to step in now. And it's NOT going to be pretty.

    2. Be it ever so late, we still have the obligation to try. Another thing that the Cardinal decried is a defeatist mindset.

    3. Would it be a "defeatist attitude" to point out that transporting Alfie Evans to Italy this week would be too late? Or should we go on demanding that he be transported and his treatment continued? It is not a "defeatist mindset" to recognize that Amoris Laetitia has done damage which may not be reversible--damage which could have been prevented if enough members of the hierarchy had done their jobs in time. In fact, to hold otherwise would be positively delusional.

    4. Oh OF COURSE WE MUST TRY....Our job is to fight for the Church with everything we've got no matter what kind of sacrifice we must make. What will count in the end is not our success or failure, but our giving it all we've got. I just don't see much success without the Lord's intervention at this point. But He will not judge us on our human failings, He will judge us on our faithfulness to fight for Him and for His Bride....or lack thereof.

    5. Justina, I'm not sure where you've been, but Alfie died on April 28th. Therefore I don't understand that point. Now look at the rest of your comment: "It is not a defeatist mindset to recognize that Amoris Laetitia has done damage which may not be reversible". The operative word is "may" - not "will" but "may". Let me use the word "will" in a sentence. Here goes. "If we allow ourselves to wallow in a defeatist attitude in our struggle against the malaise in the Church, we WILL fail for that crippling attitude will hamper our efforts much more effectively than could any satanic wile." I believe it was St Teresa of Avila who said "pray as if all depends on God and work as if all depends on you".

    6. It is too late for Alfie Evans, it is too late for Cardinals and bishops to get any traction with mews from the sidelines. Unless a Cardinal or bishop connects the name Bergolio with the word heresy, their statements don't mean much if anything at all, at least to this Catholic. I have zero interest now in anything else they are saying. They have lost all credibility. I do not know how a Cardinal or bishop squares lack of action when the Church is in flames, certainly not when a formal correction was all but promised. I'm not disappointed, I knew a long time ago it would never happen. These men do have so much to answer for, but not to us, surely, only God Himself.

  2. "The Head" needs to be deposed and anathematized.

  3. You were kind enough to post my remarks yesterday, and I thank you for that. So today I would like to ask for your take on last night's interview with Cardinal Burke on The World Over. Raymond Arroyo finally managed to elicit a direct, No," to the question, "Will there be a formal correction?"

I am not sure what to make of this. I, for one, was hoping against hope that the rumors were false, and that Cardinal Burke hadn't given up. But evidently he has.

His Eminence proposes instead that we remain in the truth of Christ ourselves, nothing more. But in the absence of a formal correction, all that amounts to is an implicit admission that the truth of Christ is one opinion among others--an admission I, for one, am not willing to make.

    Thank you.

    1. Cowardinal Burke will have much to answer for when he meets Our Blessed Lord.

    2. I apologize for not expressing myself clearly. I am well aware of the fact that poor Alfie has been put to death, and I deplore that fact.

What I meant was that sometimes a window of opportunity closes. Now that the poor child is dead, there is no point in continuing to advocate for his going to Italy, is there?

No, there isn't. It is too late.

In the same way, I believe there was a time when the damage of Amoris Laetitia could have been contained, but that time is past. If the Dubia had been followed up definitively with a Formal Correction, perhaps we would not be in the fix we are today.

By this, I don't mean to subscribe to a defeatist attitude, nor to encourage one. But we can't be Pollyannas about this, either. We have to be serious about what we are up against.

Thank you for this blog and for permitting me to post these remarks.

    3. "It's too late"? Maybe you're right. On the other hand, maybe you're wrong. Neither of us knows for neither of us is God. Speaking of Him, it can never be "too late" for Him and for His Church. I agree we cannot be pollyannas. On the other hand, we cannot allow a self-crippling attitude to lose sight of God and the mission He's given us. If we think we can live as Catholics and still harbor "it's too late" attitudes, therein lies the real cause of defeat. We need to shirk that attitude for it will hinder us more than any incorrigible prelate ever could.

    4. Let's hope I'm wrong! God bless.
