Holy Father Laments "Professional Catholics"

(Thanks to Catholic Citizens of Illinois for this lead)

In his new book "Light of the World", Pope Benedict XVI says, "The bureaucracy is spent and tired ... It is sad that there are what you might call professional Catholics who make a living on their Catholicism, but in whom the spring of faith flows only faintly, in a few scattered drops."

This is to be found in the article "Why are so many of the professional jobs in the Church held by dissidents?"  Please read it and consider that both the author and the Holy Father could well be speaking of those who occupy the offices of the various national Catholic conferences, such as our own United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.  This blog (and others) have revealed the research done on the various sordid connections that many USCCB officials have with progressive and even atheistic organizations.  We make special mention of the work done by the Vortex in this regard.  Now the Holy Father appears to be adding his voice to ours.

Might we have stumbled onto a reason why the L'Osservato Romano may have made its strangely selective and deceptive leak of the Holy Father's book?  Might it well have been a deliberate attempt to discredit what the Holy Father says in that book?
